Sadeas is Worse than The Lord Ruler (or at least he could be)
So, hot take on the Cosmere villains poll but I think Sadeas could be worse than the Lord Ruler and just happened not to have a Shard. The Lord Ruler did create a caste system and subjugated the majority of the human race on his planet for a millennium. He's not a good guy - him stopping Ruin for that period is literally the only good he did for a thousand years of rule.
But don't tell me that Sadeas wouldn't have done worse with the same amount of power - he fully buys into the Alethi idea of war as the ultimate virtue. He's bored by the petty squabbling of the lighteyes not because it's petty but because he doesn't think it lives up that ideal of war. So don't tell me if he got the right shard (maybe Odium or Ruin) he wouldn't have plunged the world into a never-edning war with him as one of the generals.
a few ways the Rashek Adopts Vin and it Goes Wrong au diverts wildly from canon:
>kelsier does not get the opportunity to martyr himself
>due to vin not being in the crew from the beginning, they lack the contact that gets marsh into the ministry, and he never becomes an obligator or an inquisitor. mostly he hangs around kelsier telling him his plan is stupid and suicidal while at the same time actively making sure kelsier doesnt do something that could get himself killed. he's like 50% effective(hard to follow ur newly mistborn brother who wants to dodge you)
^this also means that marsh doesnt get his whole killing spree with the inquisitors where he wipes out a majority of them
>vin is taught the basics of hemalurgy so that she is aware of how ruin can influence creations of it. this leads to her not wearing her earring as she connects the dots
^note her ability to pierce copperclouds remains due to her instead drawing upon the mists regularly. truly if rashek didnt want her to eventually kill him he rlly shouldntve told her abt hemalurgy but alas hes Stupid
>vins Murder Adventure continues with the Inquisitors after she successfully kills rashek.
>honestly it would probably result in vin accidently releasing ruin bc she doubts literally everything rashek told her. she hard veers away from anything he woulda done and it bites her in the ass
^however he. likely would not get far in ending the world tbh. vins not wearing her earring and also is actively fucking with all his plans by hunting down his Inquisitors and other hemalurgic constructs(aka the koloss) so literally The Moment preservation dies the shard fucking jumps her
^^which. could make this au result in the Bad End of everything remaining in its state of Fucked Up that rashek left it in. could alternatively have vin immediately turn to ruin and focus all of her murderous intent on him Instantly which is also kinda funny. ball of rage and hate kills one pseudo-god, attains godhood, proceeds to Immediately Kill Actual God. truly would likely rely upon how much she and elend bond when she kidnaps him
mistborn au where rashek decides as the power in the well is getting close to being full again that he should find the next intended 'hero' so he can make sure they align with his goals and that if anything goes wrong he has a sorta sucessor who can at the very least keep ruin at bay
except when he finds vin he kills like. everyone in the crew she was hiding with including reen bc he wants for there to be no conflicting emotional ties to anyone other than him but uhhh yeah thats not how you do that
so he starts training vin and shit except the entire time shes like a vibrating ball of hate. she goes along with everything so she can eventually figure out how to kill him. kelsier comes along later with all his big plans and vins jus like NO I CALLED DIBS FUCK RIGHT OFF
rashek the entire time kinda jus finds it amusing and annoying in a rlly exhausting way but doesnt rlly care so long as vin gets the important bit ie Dont Let Ruin Out. hes also unconcerned cause like. yeahhh shes aligned with preservation n all so shes more powerful than she should be but like. shes also just an allomancer. what can she rlly do? he also intentionally keeps her in the dark abt feruchemy and how that works and how it can interact with allomancy so like rlly shes harmless to him
jokes on him tho she manages to meet sazed and connects some dots then kills his ass. throws a wrench in kelsiers plans too bc she does it like halfway through him getting shit together with the rebellion
