My friend is reading Mistborn for the first time because I suggested it, so I finally felt like doodling some character portraits for her!
So I just finished rereading the second Mistborn book and what I wouldn't give for a Scadrial origin story.
It's set up like your typical fantasy novel. You have the prophecies hero, the king and soldier who's a good man and just wants to do what's right. You have the people recognizing him as the Hero of Ages. You have the man who first proclaimed him to be the Hero of Ages renouncing it and betraying him and trying to stop him - set up as your typical fantasy betrayal of "guy who was on my side betrayed me for money or envy or whatever" - in this case, supposedly for his ideals and religion. You get the murmurs of unrest among the Terris packmen, and all their adventures and near-death experiences as they travel through the mountains. You get details and information about pre-Ascension days, which I'd love to know - Khlenni? Khlennium? The Terris had been oppressed by Alendi's people? All those other kingdoms that existed? The Terris religion? The hundreds of other religions? Then finally we get the dramatic momentous time when Alendi finally enters the Well determined to do the right thing and give up the power to stop the Deepness. And that's where the story diverges from the typical epic fantasy.
