AMBITHERIANTHROPY: to identify both as many specific species within an animal, but not all, as well as identifying as the general/overall animal itself
EXAMPLE: a snake ambitherian may be a burmese python, a king cobra and a cornsnake therian. they may not identify with any other specific species like a viper or rattlesnake, but they do identify generally as a snake and see themselves in all species of snakes alongside their specific species therianthropes
COINAGE: the term exists somewhere between quitherianthropy, cladotherianthropy and therianthropy, as I felt that these terms didn’t fully describe my experience. ‘ambi’ derives from the latin meaning ‘both’. the definition is somewhat loose and subjective, feel free to use as you please and tweak slightly if you find comfort in the term. if the definition seems contradictory to some, that’s because it may be- this is the best explanation of my experience and I hope others may find it useful too
🧼 ——— COINED BY ME
So... bird feather patterned hair, am I right fellow avians?
— Quitherianthropy
From the latin words quidam, aliqua, and quis, collectively meaning ‘some,’ especially aliqua; ‘some, by some way or other’
— Definition of Quitherianthropy
“ Quitherianthropy is a subcategory of therianthropy in which a therian does not identify as a distinct species, nor holds a broader identity encompassing an entire genus or family (cladotherianthropy). They are somewhere in between, identifying as all or most species of a specific animal. ”
— Examples of Therianthropy, Cladotherianthropy, and Quitherianthropy
“ Instead of just a single species, e.g. an arctic wolf therian, or an entire genus/family, a canis or canidae cladotherian, a wolf quitherian identifies as all or most species of wolf; gray wolf, red wolf, coastal wolf, arctic wolf, etc., all at once. When it comes down to appearance, the quitherian may believe they are all possible coats of each species, or have a specific colored coat from each species. ”
— Where did it come from?
The term was created by strayhounds (me!) on Tumblr (it/its) after it felt its experiences did not align with normal therianthropy, nor the classic definition of cladotherianthropy. Wanting to create a label that described its experiences in more detail, it coined quitherianthropy in April of 2023.

Feeling a bit wolfy, foxy, or coyotey this morning, maybe even a little werewolf/ coyote/ foxy
Kinda want to bark and howl and yip and growl for a few hours
I want to chew on things and rip them apart as any canine would and be a little destructive today 🐺🐾🦊

I always thought it was super interesting that some of my theriotypes I KNOW are me based entirely on looks and vibes, like I could recognize myself so deeply as if the image were a mirror or picture of myself being held up to me. Like... I don't need a long, soul-searching journey to recognize that I'm a draft horse and a jersey cow (amongst other things), that's literally just how I look! While others have to be painstakingly researched and discovered, these ones are obvious to me.
crazy how a term i invented for myself that ended up not applying to me ended up becoming something other people use. i never thought it would gain any traction or really be used by anyone but myself, and i thought when i stopped using it it would just go to die — but no. like that’s. wow (in a good way).
Real deer like weed, if you offer them a hit and they say no, that's a mimic
