Your breath hitched as the sound of thudding footsteps sounded below you. You were hiding in a corner behind a crate on the second floor of the building. An enemy deathbox sat beside you, still warm. That had been your kill, but their teammate was not happy about their comrade’s death.
“Allfather, give me sight!” Shit, it was Bloodhound. A scan was heard, but they must’ve aimed it another way, because the red residue of it was nowhere to be seen. Now they were sprinting up the stairs at a rapid pace, and you had no doubt they would find you if you didn’t move. Move.
Jumping up and over the crate, you aimed your sentinel at the entryway to the stairs. The beast’s head appeared, their body following closely. They were panting deeply, and red wreaths of electricity mixed with coils of smoke engulfed them. They had a Hemlock in hand, but before they could even react, you fired.
Squinting as your ears rang from the gunshot, you focused your vision again, and there sat a deathbox, fresh and glowing a luminescent red in the dark room. The speakers around the map came on and sounded, “There is a new kill leader: Y/n.” Sighing, you slung the sniper back onto it’s holster on your back and you used your now free hand to wipe the gritty sweat off your forehead.
“Nice job, skinsuit.” You jumped slightly at the deep, echoing voice coming somewhere behind you. It was Revenant, your teammate. Even though he was silent, you could still feel his presence close to you. It was scary, but not too scary, as he was on your team.
“I could’ve used some help.”, you remarked as you poked through your fresh kill’s loot. You found a red evo shield and quickly replaced it for your damaged blue one before withdrawing from the box. Damn, Bloodhound must’ve been the kill leader with all of their good loot.
“Shut it girly, I was right here if you needed rescuing.”, he growled. You turned around to face him but was met with his torso. It caught you off guard that he was that close, and you looked up, your eyes meeting with his yellow LEDs. He peered down at you with the same malicious look that he always has, and even though you knew he wouldn’t harm you, his glare still made you writhe on the inside.
“You look squirmish.”, he observed, and you couldn’t help but flush slightly before grunting and turning away.
“Nah, the fight just had me shook up is all.”, you mustered out, surprised your voice never wavered once. Why was that bot so damn intimidating? You went to walk past the deathbox, now glowing a dim blue, when something pulled you back by the shirt. Squeaking slightly in fear, you were swung around to face Revenant once more, his LEDs stuck on you and glowing furiously.
“I didn’t say you could leave yet.”, he growled. His claws clung onto the back of your shirt, hoisting your feet a few inches off the ground, but surprisingly you weren’t being choked by the front of the shirt. A few awkward seconds passed before he made this low growling sound. Your heart began skipping around beats, the adrenaline making it hard for your organs to function properly. Great, you pissed him off. The question was, however, whether or not he would do something about it, and you were about to find out.
Slowly, Revenant pushed his face forward, forcing it into the spot between the side of your neck and your shoulder. You yelped, but he still had you hanging, so there was nothing you could do except for squirm a little. He rubbed the side of his metal face into your skin, absorbing the heat being produced by your violent flushing. Intaking deeply, he took in your aroma, weirdly enough. It was making you uncomfortable, but at the same time you kind of liked it?
The two of you stayed in that position for what seemed like minutes before he started..rumbling? No, it wasn’t a growling, you ruled that out. It was more similar to that of purring. Was he purring? Was he actually liking this? Did he like you? What did this mean?
Finally, he withdrew, looking back into your eyes before setting you down. Upon impact, you almost fell due to lack of standing for the last few minutes. He held on to your shirt to support you, but once you gained balance he let go. You looked up at him, confused as to what just happened but definitely not going to question it. He looked back down at you for a moment before reaching out his hand and patting you on the head.
You flinched, and he must’ve noticed, because he paused before withdrawing his hand. Walking past you, he started down the stairs, one hand pulling out his Flatline, the other one up against the wall, leaving scratch marks behind as he dragged it across the surface. His hulking mass retreated out of sight silently. You knew you had to follow him, but things were definitely going to be awkward now.
