Card of the day - Two if Cups This deck is electric. Rich and raw it calls us to “imagine a world where black queer people are thriving,” showing 78 takes on what that can look like under the framework of the tarot. Audrey Lorde holds court as the Queen of Swords while the 3 of Coins has a Bottom showing himself while in the background people lift the stones for building pyramids into place. Semi-gloss and thick (but shuffleable), it’s quality holds its power well. As a wyt person I know this will be finding its next home soon because it is charged powerfully with Black reclaiming and naming that is achingly beautiful. Often representing union, connection, attraction, and partnership, something strikes me here about a detail for this time of year - the fox in the snow. Clad in only their underwear, the two individuals are in a close embrace where one rests into the other, but the fox is simultaneously seeking, heading somewhere that no steps are before it. There is intimacy, but also a calling to move forward into something new with purpose. Your home base, whether a lover, a best friend, your family of choice, or your close community (which does not need to be in person) are important for you to lean into today. To trust. To know they are solid… because having a home base to return to or lean into can let us do the Work we need to do our in the world. To tread where we or others have not gone since the last snow fell. Lean into your people and use it to go forth. Listen to your calling. Card of the day - The Tarot This was an amazing birthday gift! The Wandering Star Tarot from Cat Pierce @thewanderingstartarot caught my eye back on Kickstarter. Having the deck go mass-market, I am delighted to have it in hand. Though the art only shows individuals who are thin and trends towards more (assumed) female bodies, I am delighted by the diversity it does offer in worldwide cultures. What catches my eye the most is that each piece includes the keywords woven in. It would make a great learning deck. The deck also includes two additional Major Arcana cards, The Mother Stat and The Creator, that weave in resounding yes/no options and directions for the next cycle of life after The World has marked the end of where we have come. For my deck quality nerds, I am in love with this paper stock. It seems like it might scratch easily, but it shuffles like a breeze and the texture is silken but not too slippery. The Tower card in this deck does not feature the iconic people flying from a broken building, but instead the flames on the upper half of the building struck by lightening have not yet destroyed the flowers and vines below. Things will never be the same again, but I find myself reminded of the house fire I had in Alaska where the porch caught fire but never came into the house itself. The world needed rebuilt, reassessed, and we got to choose whether things might change so it never happened again… or not. Your world has elements that are or might be burning down. Things are changing. The question becomes how we want to move forward. If you do not address the flames around you, it will take it all down with you. For some of you, that is *really* important. Burn that shit to the ground, and it can provide space to reinforce your foundations before you build anew. However, if that is not your story, what are you doing right now to douse the flame? Are you adding fuel, adding water, or calling for help? Look at what you need to release, and what you need to fight for. You are on a clock. Finally set my new dedicated tarot practice space. As much as I love doing stuff on the ground in front of my main altar, or at my coffee table, I decided to get rid of my couch and pull out the table that was hiding along a ledge just being in the way. It is set with my ancestral altar and a view of outside which I love. I’m looking forward to to working from here!
