How The Spiderverse Films Can Easily Be Read As A Queer Allegory:
Very heavy themes throughout the first film of "ANYONE could be behind this mask"
Spiderman is treated like a source of debate among people rather than an actual person, especially by a right-wing podcaster who constantly points out the flaws he has (which more-often-than-not are fictional scenarios used to push a narrative)
"It's just puberty" - Miles after noticing his spider-powers first emerge
After Miles realises he's Spider-Man 2 and witnesses Peter Parker murdered for being Spider-Man, he asks his father who has constantly talked about his disdain for Spider-Man if he "REALLY hates him" which is a conversation so many closeted queer children have every day
The other Spider's ability to sense each other is Gaydar
The scene where the other Spiders tell Miles about everyone they've lost while being Spiderman could easily be read as an allegory for how almost every queer person has lost at least 1 person close to them because of homophobia
"When will I KNOW I'm Spiderman?" "You won't. That's all it is Miles, a leap of faith." Might be stretching a little here but this could be seen as how people who are afraid to start transitioning learn to get over their fear. Sure, you'll never know for SURE if you'll regret it, but you can't let that fear stop you from being who you are.
A rich billionaire pretends to be fond of Spider-Man in public to look good but in private he was the one who killed him to benefit himself
The scene where Gwen's dad realises she's Spiderwoman is VERY reminiscent of a queer child being discovered by their homophobic parent which hits even harder since it's heavily implied that Gwen is a trans woman
Miles' conflict of trying to come out to his family as Spider-Man can so EASILY be seen as an allegory for a queer person trying to come out that I 100% believe it was intentional (I mean hell, the scene where Miles is like "oh yeah they'd totally just go "WE LOVE AND ACCEPT YOU EVEN THOUGH YOU HAVE BEEN LYING TO US FOR A YEAR"" is pretty much what kept me from coming out for as long as I did. Not the scene itself no I mean like I had the same thought process Miles had)
The spider-society could easily be seen as an allegory for the queer community, and Miles being seen as the "original anomaly" who "doesn't belong here" could be read as how loads of queer people with certain identities are excluded from the community by gatekeepers
Everyone, watch this video essay! It's amazing!
i wish you had more transcanons than rule 63
i do have some but i don't talk about them as much on here b/c i'm always...uncertain as to how good they are (and if i'm fucking things up)? trans!eowyn and trans!faramir are my lifeblood tho tbh. i use r63 as my method of re-imagining gender roles in a particular way--though i do know that it's certainly NOT the only way of going about it, far from it, because trans interpretations are definitely a good way to do that as well (and both do so in somewhat different but both in very important ways)--because it's a perspective i'm more familiar with. (and i also don't want to offend anyone. but i do like discussing trans headcanons with other people when the subject comes up.)
and sometimes it just doesn't come to me? like, i may not have those headcanons myself but i'll read someone else's and be like OH HEY I REALLY LIKE THAT (*points over at kassie and sonja's blogs*) but my brain doesn't jump to them automatically. tbf tho a lot of the time any of my non-cis-interpretation headcanons tend to be gender fluidity related sorts of things, tbh.
but i do get what you're saying, anon.
THANK YOU to the person in Seattle who made this sticker. I want to meet you. Maybe this is about something other than what I'd want it to be about but who knew riding the bus could be a tiny slice less miserable. I'm crossing my fingers this is not corporate, not related to an app and just a beautiful interruption made by a cool, weird dirtbag.

I like how whenever I watch movies or TV with Percy she's always astonished at my ability to make everything really gay. You'd think she'd be used to it by now.
