But the amount of cringe I felt, when I first heard a reporter sincerely say “long live the king” in regard to Charles was unbelievable. It was so bad. I started to curl into myself, I was so icked out.
How do you say that and not be like - I can’t take myself or anyone else saying that seriously ever again– clearly the monarchy is ridiculous, let’s overthrow it.
"Long live the queen” isn’t any better...but maybe because I’m so use to it, it just doesn’t have the same cringe value. I don’t know.
But “long live the king” doesn’t work, especially when one means Charles. And I know William is liked more, but it feels just as silly.
Why should I respect them? Why should I respect Charles? Why should anyone? What has he done that demands such respect, aside from coming out of the Queen’s vagina first.
It’s ridiculous to say “Long live the King” and mean it sincerely. What are you some sworn knight in some fantasy story with dragons? Like, come off it and join us in the real world.
