Today is Transgender Day of Visibility and I’ve been thinking about me identifying as genderqueer/non-binary for some time. It was more present during the past year but has been somehow a topic all of my life. I wanted to be a boy from when I was 10 because I did not know that there is an other option if you clearly don’t identify as a girl. Since I learned that it’s possible to be neither or both, I feel like I can express myself in a whole different way. I experiment a lot with dress and performance, with pronouns and whatnot.
Especially as a person of color with a muslim background, it is very important to be visible and show people with similar identities that you exist and that they are not alone in this. It helped me a lot to see projects like “Just Me and Allah”.
The first photo was almost exactly a year ago, the last one is from today. Sending a lot of positive vibes to all you non-binary, genderqueer, genderfluid, binary-trans, agender folx! Especially to my fellow muslim siblings and BPoC!
