As I was then I wasn't able to experience guilt or shame of my own. It was unusual for me to feel much that wasn't a reflection of another, as a nonhuman being that subsisted on the feelings of humans. That doesn't mean I didn't think it unfortunate when things ended very poorly for humans passing through our world. It's strange being so canon divergent, but I wouldn't change it for anything. In my timeline Cheryl created me in her dreams to protect her from the other monsters... Later in the time before she came to Silent Hill, Valtiel was able to twist me to his purposes but at the end of everything, I was able to turn away from him to protect Cheryl again. I remember doing everything in my power to keep her safe and I miss her a lot. Cheryl I doubt you're out there, but stay safe. - Pyramid Head.

The James I knew blamed himself far more for things he never did than many other humans passing through the otherworld blamed themselves for things they actually did. He did wrong, yes, but he is very far from the worst to ever visit Silent Hill. As a "pyramid head", I would know.
