Went kickboxing for the first time today, met cool dudes. Itās a class of four and I bounce in there, literally bouncing. Iām not particularly girly unless I get really happy, which apparently happens when Iām punching things and getting sweaty doing it.Ā
So I take self defense in college with the kickboxing instructor and I swear this man respect women juice like water. IĀ donāt think I respect women as much as this man. I love and trust this dude and itās so. freaking. awesome.Ā
Part of what he teaches in the self defense course is that first impressions are everything with men in the workforce and social settings. First three days of class were just how to keep your posture and basically (nicely) intimidate people into never ever wanting to mess with you. Simple things, like making them take the step forward to shake your hand. Keeping eye contact. Standing up straight, arms at the sides. It makes people not view you as a target.Ā
Anyway I walk in with my busted wrist and he introduces me to everyone and tells themĀ āThis is Maegan from USC in my self defense class. Watch her wrist. She broke it when some guy was being a douche and she punched him down a flight of stairs. Donāt piss her off.āĀ
Like. Do you have any idea what level of wingmanning this is. That is absolutely not how I broke my wrist and I think everyone was 50% sure that wasnāt how I broke it but it doesnāt matter because Steve the badass competition-winning instructor saidĀ āthis chick is awesome and also dangerous. Have fun.ā I was so touched. Oh my God I wish I couldāve had a guy like this as a dad figure earlier in life.Ā
Got super tired. Sweated like three pounds of sweat. Had to take a lot of breaks but itās totally fine because it was my first time. All the people there are super supportive and always complimenting good hits and everything. Also the instructorĀ made me punch him in the face. Iām not entirely sure why butĀ I can now say I have intentionally punched a dude in the face.Ā
I think Iāve found my calling in life. My calling is hitting stuff.Ā
