Blue

His feathers are the color of the ocean The blues and greens of the deep With ink-like spots splattered ‘round

His hair dances and waves Reflecting light on its surface Like that of the seawaters

His body is of a man But with wings and tail Of a bird-prey

His eyes are the blackest So dark, it’s as if it could consume Not only light, but a soul — my soul

And he did just that When he took me off into the clouds— Beyond the clouds

He stopped my breath My heartbeat, my thoughts He did consume my soul

He did just that When he looked at me And the corners of his lips curled up

He did just that When he leaned to me And his lips caressed mine

He did consume my soul And gave me his In crashing waves and electric shocks

Erosion

You wouldn't notice if I were eroding away Because there are no visible chips on my outer layers It's the internal edges that get jagged I wear thin from the inside out Master of emotional cosmetics Brush the surface smooth with authentics Give a glimpse into the depths While taming the raging tempests And you could never tell How wildly winds blow How rain touches raw skin Then turns to snow Because my hard shell serves me well See, I don't need to live in stone I just rock the mask I'm on a roll, and in control Making art from my heart Whether I'm healing or falling apart Going to the end, or trying to restart Cutting myself open Draining blood to be unbroken Letting go of heavy emotion But there are always words unspoken And one thing you should know is Anyone is prone to erosion No don't underestimate the strength of endurance But don't overstate the ability to fight I may be invisible But I am not invincible And neither are you We all feel pain And we try to make it through It's part of the human condition To battle corrosion of existence There's surviving, and there's living We all hope to know the difference There's a way when there's reason Some people find it Others just erode in silence Impossible to know the final destination It all depends on the stage of deterioration And whether or not one can break free from haunting cages

Erosion: An Ode to Those That Disappear While Dancing

I’ve reached an interesting conclusion amid all this noise. This nightclub is just another hungry mouth to starve during the day.

Dusk falls, and thus, the neon distractions attract humanoid moths that come to praise their luminescence.

They gather in tight cigarette-package-like circles to pant and canter—to dance without rhythm to a song they know all the words

to, but do not know the artist. ‘It could be the alcohol at the moment, but who knows, let’s keep dancing’.

It does not take long for me to realize that this is how it always has been, and more importantly, how it always will be.

Inside, a belly full of lights, drunk joy and rapturously loud music; ignoring the vibration of cracked concrete and police sirens on the outside.

I find this notion completely crazy: everything on the inside—a party—an open invitation to sweat & erosion.

A sea of mouths, some stumbling away, their bodies rejecting the mixed drinks.

Ode to the sweat.

Ode to the act of sweating.

Ode to the ignorance of body odor, seeping from the pits of our arms, and slicking the bleached tile flooring.

Ode to the heaviness of breath.

Ode to the lack thereof.

Ode to the peers.

Ode to the non-existence of peer pressure.

Ode to the willingness to drink.

Ode to the fucking bartender: no seriously—what a badass.

Ode to those who do not know what they do.

Ode to those who stick the keys in their car, and drive drunk anyway.

Ode to those who die while driving drunk.

Ode to those who realize that a life wasted by one decision, is not worth wasting.

Ode to erosion; stealing all the world’s most easily corrupted children, even the ones we don’t want to leave us.

Ode to those who disappear while dancing; your memory will be cherished through every beading drop of sweat.

Was never the stone

much as I wanted to be

Cold

Unbreakable

Unmovable

Not even the rush of

spring thaw

able to pry me free

More like the wood

Out of place in the flow

Fallen

Floating

Drifting

No place in the landscape

Brushed aside watching

the rooted swaying below

But with all bark stripped

in the violent shifts

I’ve found it wouldn’t

matter either way

For stone in the water

Even though it can stay

friction and time are

eternally eroding away

Eroding away

'So what's the plan for today?', he asked as he entered the kitchen, yawning. 'Let's go to the mountains dad, we haven't been there in quite some time', his son replied almost instantly. 'Alright son, you're the boss these days', he replied smiling and went to make his breakfast. Preparing themselves with the trekking gear, the father and son got ready to go to the mountains. It was an hour long drive to the base, from where the terrain began and he could see his son was thoroughly looking forward to another adventure filled day with him. He was thinking about what life lesson he will teach his son today, in the mountains. This was a part of their outing; the experience and then the learning. They got to the camp and taking out their gear they readied themselves for the trek. Among the mountains they went and got surrounded by the trees, occasionally feeling the sun's rays reaching them from among the leaves. It was a beautiful sight and he knew his son was having the time of his life. 'You know son, we are here in the mountains and we have trees that surround us, but can you see there, in the distance where there is a part of the mountain with no trees?' 'No dad, I can't see, I'm too short', his son replied. Lifting his son like Mufasa in Lion King, he said, 'Can you see now?' 'Do you know why is it like this, or why should there be trees on the mountains?' 'No dad, but I can bet trees make the mountains look even more majestic and serene', he was only 10 and yet his vocab was better than his own, he smiled. 'Well son, let me explain. You see these trees, they have their roots in the soil upon which we are walking, and these hold back the soil from eroding away. So if it rains, the water flows down the mountain because of steepness and since soil is held back it is not easily eroded away, however if the trees are cut down then there is nothing to hold back the soil, and hence it gets eroded away when it rains. Now this has adverse consequences too, you see the landslides are also often caused by this, not all but sometimes.' 'Wow dad this sounds so interesting.' 'Now son let me relate this with our lives, you see we get angry quite often when things don't go our way, like you get angry too when you ask for something and you don't get it, and we sometimes compose ourselves to keep our anger in check. So these trees are like composure holding back on our anger from eroding away and causing havoc. And if we don't have composure, our anger will erode away leading to sometimes extreme results, also causing landslides which in this case will be loss of our character.' 'Wow dad, all this is so very intriguing, I guess I'll always try to remember this whenever I get angry.' - AA

There is something about the ebb and flow of my first heart-break that leaves me reeling and salts my cheeks even after the one thousand, one hundred and seventy two high tides that have passed since you left. There is something about the rush that came with dipping my feet into love for the first time that has hardwired my brain into thinking of you and the memories won’t stop roaring back to life and crashing over me with the methodical repetition that only a force of nature could master. I wrote you a letter about the weathering of all that you were to me and send it out with the tides. Perhaps your side of the Pacific holds a bottle addressed to me, dripping secrets of everything I meant to you. Perhaps all we ever were was a castle you built in the sand, that the ebb and flow of me passing through your mind has long since eroded.

I sat for years, Sitting outside your window. I watched you grow, I watched you disappear. When you were little, You climbed me fearlessly. Tugging at my arms and often falling from my height. When you were older, You would sit beside me enjoying the shade with me, your nose hidden in a book. When you peaked your age, You took over the house. Everyday you would look at me, and remember our good days. You had children of your own, and they too, climbed my heights. Enjoyed my shade with books, Looked at me with a smile from memories. I watched you, as you disappeared with the years. Yet, I still sit here, outside your window. Wondering where the time went.
