The child is shown the symbol, or structure, then traumatized until they dissociate. The symbol is then associated with the trauma and internalized within the system. Responses can then be linked to the symbol.

Think of it like a song. There are certain songs that you can listen to and it brings about a memory/feeling/the place you were when that something happened regarding that song. You cannot hear the song for years, when the first few bars are played, your mind can pull the memory up instantly.

Same thing can be done with symbols, with both negative and positive enforcement.

alters have had the idea that we are poisoned or sick, and that only our programmers/abusers would have the antidote for this. could this be another program of returning to the organisation that had originally hurt/programmed us?

What you’re describing is a common tactic used by abusers to prevent parts in a system from leaving. It also leads to those parts impacted by this form of abuse to want to return if others in the system were to leave.

Programmes are triggered responses to a determined phrase, date, sensation, or other cue.

It isn’t necessarily a program running but a method of programming.
