I'd probably give it a 6 out of ten (ignoring the fact that I love the anime and manga with all my heart and keeping it as a completely separate thing from the original) now as for favourite characters, it has to go to L and Ryuk, I specially enjoyed how cunning Ryuk was, he was less of an spectator and more of a catalyst for the plot. My problem with this move however went to how it was not a psychological movie and everything was very straight forward (I guess this had to do with the targeted audience and the fact that the west seems to prefer action packed movies); I'm still deciding if I liked the ending or if it was just an attempt at mesmerising the audience (Light finally showed his smarts lol). As for characters I didn't like... Maybe Mia but I did like the fact that she wasn't dumb as in the original, she was just a moody teenager with some cunning of her own. Light on the other hand was not as calculating as I'd want him to be and he basically allowed everyone to pressure him into doing stuff. Apart from all of this... My biggest let down was the touch on the meaning of justice it was hinted at but never really explored; I hope that if we get a second movie to tie up all loose ends we will get more onto that, after all it is an essential part of the original story. • • • If you read all of my rambling... If I'm being real Lord of shadows in second on my top 3 Shadowhunter books (First obviously goes to Clockwork Princess and third to Clockwork angel 😋) but aside from that, there's not much to say except to comment on the fact that I may be at the start of a slump so I'm taking my time and slowly going through Deathly Hallows, no pressure at all.
