What is your favorite thing about this character?
Okay so I know maybe it's trite but I love how much of a boy scout Carter is. Like Jason is treated as the apex red ranger since he's the first, but Carter was born for it. That boy does not hesitate to throw himself into danger if it means saving civilian lives. He will throw down with literally any force, human or demon, if it saves even one person, while genuinely not seeing the issue with this behavior UNLESS it's the rest of his team. He doubts himself, but never his team. He wants the best for everyone, even at the cost of his own life.
That said, I simply must rhapsodize the rest of the team a bit too. Chad is ultra-talented both as a marine specialist as a martial artist and he could be an egomaniac about it, but he's so goddamn humble, you want to wrap him up in a blanket and give him hot chocolate. Conversely, Joel is also incredible at what he does. He knows his worth, and he will make sure you know it too. Dana helped her father vet and assemble the Lightspeed team and was still shocked when he chose her. Kelsey, meanwhile, is "just" an extreme sports junkie, and still can't turn away when people need her and she can help. Ryan has every right to turn away from this life entirely once he's freed from the curse, but he still sticks around, because under that gruff exterior, he doesn't want people to go through what he went through.
I just think it's neat that despite their mixed skill levels when it comes to first response actions, none of them can refuse the call when presented with the reality of the situation. (Which I know is a common thread in PR, but more often than not, it's an abstract, mystical source that chooses you, not a governmental body that could easily go with their second or third picks if you refuse.)
4. What’s a random headcanon you have for this character?
With all that said... I do believe that they all have more first response experience than the show lets on. Chad was part of the Coast Guard. Joel volunteers to do high altitude rescue flights and wildfire water drops. Kelsey is a seasoned mountain rescue team member. Ryan knows magic - he grew up around demons, how could he not? He might not have traditional rescue experience, but he's the first person they turn to when they need a curse broken or runes deciphered.
