It kind of annoys me when Hollywood treats south asian and latino ethnicity interchangibly.
In Flash show, we had Captain David Singh played by a latino actor (who played the character extremely well no doubt) instead of an indian actor, and that character is one of the more prominent indian characters in DC, and one of the few to get adapted into some other media, and instead of having an indian actor portray him, they give the role to someone else. (Just because we all have brown skin, doesn't mean we are interchangeable, hollywood!)
Star Trek did the same thing. (original actor for the Indian villain Khan Noonien Singh was Hispanic)
We have actors of indian descent playing latino characters (Brody Romero, Izzy Garcia)
(We also had a thai actor forced to play a latino character - Antonio, but that season is infamous for literally whitewashing japanese characters with japanese surnames while adapting japanese culture... So the less we talk about it, it's better. I don't hate the actors. They did a good job acting, but the people in charge- the casting directors and showrunners should know better.)
Like what is so wrong with having indian characters or having indian actors playing indian characters?!
It is 2025... And despite all the comments about "woke" and "diversity", I still have yet to see indian characters in live action superhero stuff (and other media) get the spotlight!!
Like there are LOTS of indian characters in comics, both in DC and Marvel, but they rarely make it on screen, despite India being a major market for the movies and screenwriters/directors appreciating India in interviews.
Like it is a silly thing, but I was just talking to a friend about how the Flash show misappropriated hindu mythology (Savitar and the 'philosophers' stone in season 3) and this grew from there.
Like why give us breadcrumbs instead of proper authentic representation?!
And this probably holds true for other ethnic (and other) communities too!
