Galard having different levels of formality that don't map onto tú/usted is a nice touch :)
This is exactly the kind of thing I can do in a fic in Spanish that is really hard to do in English! I liked how Katherine Addison hacked it in to The Goblin Emperor with the antiquated “thou” and royal “we” but in Spanish some of that exists natively.

yeah I mean on the one hand it’s pretty standard “soul good body bad, carnal urges Sinful” stuff (which, whoooo the Legacy on that is Not Great all on its own) but then blaming it all on ~~ Woman for...existing... is a whole extra level on the cake I mean it’s all so Standard Dichotomy to the point of being cliche and yet still Really Not Great to actually read!
Goodness knows you don't need anything more on your plate right now but I just finished Three-Body Problem and it was verrrrry intense and gripping. Just saying.

According to the "Anibase" (downloaded database/bonus content) the Andalites were supposed to be much more typical looking aliens in the hopes it would be adapted to TV, the editor was like "no be more creative please" and Applegate was like "well then I'll show you."
That’s fantastic! I love the alien design in these books so much, but it did not cope well at all with being adapted in the nineties with a kids tv show budget that was being (I assume) mostly spent on getting animals on screen. What I wouldn’t give for a modern or even animated version of the series. Netflix, I’m looking at you.
But spite creativity is the best kind of creativity and I’m not complaining in the slightest :)

Discworld is great! I am of the rare opinion that publication order is just fine, the earliest books mock a lot of 80's standard fantasy tropes but I think that's hilarious?
For anon: I read the first Malazan and was meh on it. The problem is not that there are "too many characters" (if you can handle WoT you can absolutely handle Gardens of the Moon, lol), but everyone is just getting jerked around by the gods/magic so I didn't feel like there was enough character agency.
