There was something odd about finally having control of his body again, something he couldnât explain. It was like when you go somewhere away from home for a few weeks then return, very right but also something slightly off about it. Like he had to get back into the groove of being himself.
Jace didnât know completely what to expect when he got up to the top floor, but he had a couple of ideas. Probably he would see Lilith, which scared him deep to his core. He didnât want to face her after the torture she put him through, but he would if it meant saving Clary. Clary for the first time in forever with his own body, not hurting her or killing her. Maybe even Jonathan, naked and bloody and alive.
Instead, what he found, looked like a bomb had gone off. Maybe even several. There was nothing left of the room, no one left around.
Until he saw someone come up from the ledge.
Probably one of the last people he expected to see right then was Simon Lewis, but it was like a breath of fresh air. The sigh of relief he didnât realize he was holding. He started walking closer to him and noticed him getting weary about it, and he knew why. He didnât know he was him, he could be the Owl coming to try to kill him.
âHey, itâs me. Itâs me,â he said, walking over to Simon. He reached out and took his face in his hands, trying not to shake.
Jace was trying his hardest to stay strong, he had plenty of time to be weak. He had to play off of the high of the adrenaline and the relief of being himself again. But there was something about this that was unlocking something in him, deep down. He had made sure to touch Simon as softly as he could, his gloved hands barely touching his skin. He didnât want Simon to be scared, but that wasnât just it.
He finally had control of himself again, he had the ability to be gentle. He had watched his hands do so many terrible things when the Owl was in control, had seen them hitting and stabbing and stained with blood all in the name of Lilith. And now he had them back, he could use them how he wanted.
Jace didnât have to be violent. He could be tender. After all of that, he had to be. He couldnât take any more force, any more blood. He just needed to be soft for once.
And Simon looked so hurt and sad, what was he supposed to do.
They were so close, Jace could feel his heart race. There was something about Simon that always made him feel like things were going to be okay. He stroked his cheek with his thumb, looking into his eyes. It felt like it had been a lifetime since he last saw him, really saw him. He had really only saw him once once the Owl had fully taken over, a very short time where all he did was tease him about the Seelie Court kiss, which he knew would make them both feel like shit. Jace hated the look on Simonâs face when Clary kissed him, how much it broke his heart.
âYou know, you keep looking at me like that and Iâm going to think you want to kiss me,â Simon said, trying to lighten the mood a little.
Tensions were high, they were both sad and hurt and scared and high strung from everything going on around them.
âMaybe I do,â Jace said, his voice small. It was the first time he had admitted his attraction to Simon, really even to himself. But it was true, fuck was it true.
âThen maybe you should,â Simon said bad, looking into Jaceâs eyes.
And so he did.
Jace leaned in and kissed him softly, as gently as he was holding his face. The fire that was usually deep inside of him when he kissed someone wasnât a roaring flame, but a low ember. Everything about this moment was soft and sweet in a way that he never had with anyone, maybe even in a way that he never had wanted with anyone else before now.
The Owl kissed Lilith in his body with his mouth, made out with her for his energy. Jace could feel it every time, could feel her lips and tongue and the arousal from the Owl in a way that made him sick. But this was nothing like that. This was something so very not Jace in a very Jace way, defying everything he had been through.
They kissed, Simonâs hands going to rest on his waist as his hands didnât move from their position on his face. He felt their faces grow wet from his tears and he pulled away with a broken chuckle.
âSorry,â he said, looking over at Simon.
Simon just shook his head, moving his hand from his waist and going to wipe Jaceâs face, giving him a small smile. âItâs okay,â he assured. âI hope youâre not crying because my kissing is just that bad,â he joked, his hand moving down to Jaceâs neck. âYou have so many reasons to cry, after what youâve gone through. I canât even imagine-.â
âCan we not⌠talk about it right now?â Jace asked, biting his lip. âI just⌠can we go? Weâve gotta get Alec back to the Institute and maybe start coming up with ideas on what to do. Yeah?â
âYeah,â Simon said, leaning in and kissing him again. âWe can do this. Together.â

To say Simon wasnât exactly thrilled when he was paired with Jace would be an understatement, but he knew he could make it work. He was a little bit of a nerd, he could work with anyone under the right circumstances. But that didnât mean he had to like it.
How Jace got into AP Chem, Simon didnât know. He didnât know much about Jace really, but he didnât seem the kind to be a science nerd. A jocky fuckboy type? Sure. But not a science wiz by any means. Simon had multiple science fair awards, what did Jace have?
To be fair, Simon doesnât know. Heâs only known the Lightwoods for a few years now, so for all he knew Jace could be a genius. But from what heâs seen, heâd doubt it. It wouldnât even pass his mind.
âIf youâre expecting me to do all the work, just tell me now,â Simon said as they got to their lab station, looking over at Jace. âIâd rather you be upfront about it.â
Jace looked over at him, a little confused. âCome on, dude. Have some faith in me,â he chuckled.
And so Simon did.
There was something about Jace that both made Simon want to trust him or to get far away, but he was glad he chose to trust him. Because despite what Simon had assumed, he found Jace actually being helpful. Most of what he wanted to do was set fires to things, but to be fair that was necessary more often than not. Simon did most of the formulas and calculations while Jace did most of the actual combinations of chemicals and experiments. They were comfortable like this, and quickly rose to the top of the class.
Though Simon was afraid of that going downhill when he got sick.
He already hated missing a whole week of school, getting that far behind was terrifying to him. But he worried about Jace and their chemistry grade. Jace didnât know how to do the formulas, he would be screwed.
Or so Simon thought.
On Friday, he heard a knock on the front door right after the school day wouldâve ended. Going to the door in just a pair of old pajama pants and a Star Wars tshirt, Simon opened it and was surprised at who was standing there. âJace?â he asked, confused. âWhat are you doing here? How do you know where I live?â
Jace held up a folder, shaking it slightly. âWanted to bring you your makeup work. I know you would want a head start on it,â he said, shrugging. âClary told me where you lived. Hope thatâs okay. I just wanted to make sure you were okay,â he said with a smile.
âOh,â Simon said softly, looking over at him. âWell, thanks,â he said, taking the folder from him. âThatâs really nice of you. So, howâs our chem grade? I hope we havenât dropped down too much,â he said, sounding a bit dejected. He really needed to pass all of his classes.
Jace cocked an eyebrow, looking completely confused. âWhat do you mean? I was there, I did the work,â he said like it was obvious.
âYeah but I wasnât there to do the formulas and calculations and stuff,â Simon pointed out. âThatâs a good part of the points. Not that what you do isnât important too, just⌠you know.â
Jace crossed his arms, looking at him now obviously more than a little mad. âYou think Iâm too dumb to do the work?â he asked. âIâm not just a pretty face. I did the paper work too so that we wouldnât fall behind. Youâre welcome,â he said, turning to leave. âI told you to trust me.â
When Jace left, Simon felt bad about the whole thing. He knew he shouldnât have assumed Jace couldnât do the work, he realized that there was a lot more to learn about Jace. And after that day, he did. During class, he started really talking to Jace. Which went from just during the school day to inviting him over after school to hang out. One of those days, he had to ask something that had been on his mind since the Lightwoods came to their school a couple years before.
âSo why donât you look like your siblings?â Simon asked, looking over at Jace sitting next to him on the couch.
âWhat?â Jace asked, chuckling.
âYou know, Alec and Izzy. Why donât you look like them?â
âDude, really? Iâm adopted. Isnât it obvious?â he asked, laughing more. âMe and Alec look nothing alike and are almost the same age,â he pointed out.
âOh,â Simon said, and yeah it was kind of obvious, but he didnât want to assume. âI mean, now that you say it...â
âHey, itâs okay,â he said, nudging him. âItâs not something I hide, but I donât really talk about it a lot if it doesnât come up, you know? But yeah, Iâm adopted. Long story short, Iâm an orphan and the Lightwoods adopted me when I was ten. They had us in this special math and science school for a while and then when they got divorced, we started coming here,â he admitted.
Simonâs eyes went wide at that, shifting to look at him better. âYou? At a math and science school?â he asked, trying to not sound too surprised.
âI know, I know. Dumb ass jock like me? I told you, more than just a pretty face,â he chuckled. âIzzyâs the real science genius of the family though,â he admitted. âBut I did pick up some stuff. So now you know why we didnât fail just because you were out sick for a week,â he smiled.
âHot and lowkey a genius? God, I could kiss you,â Simon said without thinking, chuckling to himself.
âI mean, if you did I wouldnât mind,â Jace said honestly, shrugging.
Simon faltered for a moment, looking over at him. âWait, what?â
âI said if you wanted to kiss me, I wouldnât mind,â Jace bit his lip. âI⌠youâre not going to be an asshole about this, are you? Even if that was a joke, I thought youâd be okay with me liking guys since Claryâs gay and sheâs your best friend,â he rambled, starting to worry.
Simon leaned in and pressed their lips together hurriedly, wanting to calm Jace down. After a moment they both relaxed, starting to properly kiss and oh God, he was kissing Jace. They were really kissing on his momâs couch in the middle of the living room.
âI like guys too,â Simon said breathlessly, looking into his eyes. âAnd I like you.â
âI like you too,â Jace admitted, smiling. âLike ever since we got paired together this is all I thought about.â
âYeah? I guess you could say weâve got chemestry,â Simon smirked and Jace groaned.
âPlease donât kill him!â Jace screamed into the emptiness of the room, knowing he could be heard.
He knew the Owl could hear him loud and clear, there was no way he couldnât. Sometimes they talked, sometimes Jace screamed and cried and the Owl would berate him for it. For being weak, poking fun at his pain. Reminding him of how disappointed Valentine would be to see him now.
So he knew he could hear him now.
âPlease,â he said, his voice broken. âI know you can hear me, you bastard. You canât kill him,â Jace said, sitting on the bed when his legs felt weak. Everything about him lately had been weak, being in that mind prison was hell. And it had only gotten worse since Lilith had found out he had tried to escape with Alec and Izzy.
âYou have to spare Alec. Please, Iâm just asking for his life.â
Jace could see everything, every single move the Owl made. Every mundane and werewolf and any other creature he could get his hands on that he killed. Every time he kissed Lilith in his body. And this was no exception. He could see Alec, clear as day. He could see his hands welding the weapons as they fought. He could see his hands as he hit him. He could feel Alec stabbing him in the leg, the pain shooting through him just like it did the Owl.
But Alec was right, Jace was more than willing to die for this. He was ready to accept death, he had already accepted it long ago. But he was more than ready now, now that it would mean something. If Alec could kill him then they could get to Lilith and save Clary, and he was more than happy to die for the people he loved.
And if anyone was going to kill him, he wanted it to be Alec.
But things were going wrong, the Owl was too powerful. He was taunting him now, reminding him that he could see everything. That he could hear Jaceâs screams.
âPlease, fuck! You canât kill him,â he cried, breaking down again. It was hard to breathe, and he just wanted it all to end. He closed his eyes, but it was no use, Jace could still see everything the Owl could. âAnything but this. Iâll do anything, give you anything, just as long as you donât kill Alec. Especially with my hands,â he pleaded, not caring that the Owl was still taunting him about it. He had nothing to offer the Owl, they both knew this, but he had to think of something. Alec was too important to die, he had so much to live for. So many people to live for. So many people that loved him and depended on him, Jace being one of them.
He couldnât let his brother die.
But it was out of his control.
The Owl did it anyways.
Jace watched, helplessly, as the Owl got on top of Alec. He watched as the Owl grabbed the arrow and held it over Alecâs chest. He let out the most painful, gut wrenching scream when he watched his hands start to plunge the arrow in, knowing there was nothing he could do to stop it. Alec was going to die, and it was his fault. It was his hands that were driving it in, his face the last thing Alec might see as he died. He couldnât stop screaming and crying, he just wanted it to end. He had watched the Owl kill so many with his hands, and with each kill it chiseled away at him. But this was different, he felt this deep down. His screams were coming from his heart, not his throat. His tears were coming from his soul, not his eyes.
He was killing his brother.
This was worse than any of the other kills, even Imogen. He didnât care about anyone half as much as he cared about Alec. He loved him, he was his big brother. He was his parabatai. He was his best friend.
Then he felt the blast.
So much pain and conflict going on, he didnât understand what it was. Until he realized where he was, that he was moving again. He was finally free.
And Alec was still dying.
Alec, ever the selfless brother, reassured him that it wasnât his fault as the life drained away from him.
He begged Magnus to save him, just like he begged the Owl to spare him. Unlike the Owl, Magnus couldnât save him. Not because he didnât want to, but because he really couldnât. And it broke Jace more, because he knew Magnus could lose the man he loved because of him. He had to fix this.
And he would. If it killed him, he was going to make things right again.
congrats my love on your milestone!!! I am wishing you many many more in your future! For prompts may I ask for a sweet familial moment between Isabelle and Magnus? (Or Isabelle and Alec tbh!!) If you want more specifics, just let me know and congrats again!! đđđđ
me: gets around to this weeks later
âAlright, move out of the way,â Izzy said, nudging Alec playfully. âI want to dance with my new brother,â she said, looking up at the two of them.
Alec and Magnus had been dancing, looking into each otherâs eyes and just avoiding the world around them. They looked stunning in their suits, she knew everyone thought so. The wedding ceremony had gone off without a hitch, months of planning going into what was the perfect day. Neither of them could be happier if they tried, they deserved something good after a lot of the things the two of them had been through, not just recently but throughout their whole lives.
Alec sighed, looking down at Izzy. âReally?â he asked, not moving away from Magnus. âYouâre going to separate me from my husband, on my wedding day? Youâre so cruel,â he said dramatically, but moving away from Magnus. âYou have a minute, then Iâm taking him back,â he said, playfully glaring at her before sharing a kiss with Magnus and heading off to the bar.
Magnus took her hand and spun her, pulling her close to him as they started to sway to the music. âSister,â he smiled.
âBrother,â she said back, her arms wrapping around his shoulders. âOfficial now. How does it feel to be a married man?â Izzy asked, looking up into his eyes.
âAmazing,â Magnus said, smiling softly. âFinally get to call that gorgeous hunk of a man my husband. Forever,â he said happily.
Izzy just grinned at that, she couldnât help but feel the pure joy rolling off of him, off of both of them. They were genuinely so happy to be married, it gave her hope for the future. Hope that one day sheâll get to be half as happy as Alec and Magnus were when they were together. âI have something for you,â she finally said, retrieving something out of her dress. âSince youâre officially a Lightwood, you should have this,â she said, showing him the Lightwood family ring.
âAre you sure?â Magnus asked, a little surprised at the offering. He took it and looked it over carefully, like it was fragile. Like if he moved too fast, it might disappear.
âHell yeah! Come on, youâre as much of a Lightwood now as me or Alec or Jace, so why not? Plus, youâre probably the only one thatâll appreciate it as much as it should be,â she teased, winking.
Magnus looked at it again before slipping it onto his finger, smiling softly. âThank you, Isabelle. It means a lot to me to hear you say that,â he said, leaning down to kiss her hair.
âI should go now, Alec looks like heâs itching to get back to you,â she smiled.
âGo have fun, enjoy the night. You know weddings are perfect for hookups,â Magnus teased, nudging her slightly.

day seven of spierfeld week: coming out -
itâs been a year since Bram came out
read on ao3
âWhy do you have a cake?â Bram asked, his eyebrow cocked. He had heard the knock at the door and went down to answer it, not expecting what he saw.
There, standing on the porch, was Simon Spier. That in itself wasnât surprising, he was used to seeing his boyfriend pretty regularly, but what he was holding in his hands was what was surprising to him. He was holding a cake box, a grin on his face. âYouâll see!â he said, pushing his way inside and towards the kitchen.
Bram rolled his eyes fondly, following him. He watched him as he got out a knife and turned to him, still grinning.
âClose your eyes,â Simon told him, waiting until his eyes were closed before he opened the top of the box and prompted him to open them again.
Staring up at Bram from the top of the white frosted cake was big, all caps letters that said âHAPPY COMING OUT-VERSARY!â with a rainbow.
âExactly one year ago today, you got on that ferris wheel with me,â Simon explained, looking over at him fondly. âAnd let me kiss you in front of everyone. So I say itâs officially the anniversary of the day you came out. Happy one year, babe. I hope you have many more happily gay years ahead of you,â he joked lightly.
Bram walked over to him, taking his hand in his. âYouâre such a dork,â he said, leaning in and pressing their lips together softly. âBut youâre my dork,â he whispered against his lips before he kissed him again.
He kept kissing him, pressed against the kitchen counter, until Simon pulled away slightly.
âWe should eat some cake,â he said, nudging him slightly. Right when Simon turned around to cut the cake, Bram wrapped his arms around his waist from behind and held onto him as he cut a couple slices of cake and put them on the plates.
âDo I get to make a coming out-versary wish?â he asked, pressing a kiss to Simonâs cheek.
âMmm, sure, I guess. You can do whatever you want, itâs your day,â Simon said after thinking for a moment, chuckling. âWhat do you wish for?â
Bram pretended to think for a few moments, slowly kissing the side of Simonâs face. âI wish for this,â he finally said, humming as he pressed closer to Simonâs back. âI wouldnât change a thing. A lot of people accepted me, I still have all of my friends. And Iâm closer to people because of it, because I donât feel so guarded anymore. Itâs not always easy, especially when I started college classes, and I had to worry about this shit again, but it was easier,â he said, sighing softly as he kissed his cheek again.
âBut the best part about it is that I got you. I have this amazing, supportive, smart, funny, cute as fuck boyfriend. Something I didnât know if Iâd ever get to have,â Bram continued. âI came out and I got to have you. I got to fall in love. And damn am I in love,â he chuckled.
Simon sucked in a breath before smiling, turning his head to kiss his lips. âI love you too. Iâm glad you get to be unapologetically yourself. Confidence is a good look on you.â
âYou too,â Bram hummed. âI like seeing you all confident and open and⌠gay,â he smiled.
âI like seeing you all gay too,â he teased, pecking his lips again before getting some frosting on his finger and putting some on Bramâs nose. âLet me take a picture of you with your cake before we end up cutting more pieces and cutting into the words,â he said, letting Bram pose both with the icing still on his nose and one without, with his cake. They posted them on Bramâs instagram before they grabbed a couple drinks and the cake, heading into the living room.
They cuddled up on the couch and watched a movie as they ate the cake, it quickly turning from watching to exchanging extremely sweet tasting kisses for a while. When they turned on a new movie, Simon fell asleep curled up to him, and Bram couldnât stop himself from smiling softly.
This really was all that he wanted, all he needed. Simon. Simon had given him the courage to be himself, it was just an added bonus that they ended up falling madly in love.
His coming out-versary was quickly becoming his favorite holiday.
