Just started geocaching today and oohhh my paws we have GOT to make this more popular in the community.
Download the app and get out there and start geocaching! Go hunting, sniffing, scavenging! It’s so fun and gives us a chance to explore! My fellow creatures and such, if you’re looking for something to do outdoors, put on your coat and go look for some geocaches!
Stay safe of course, don’t trespass, and stay on any trails if you can! My fellow animals need a good reason to know their way around the territory, this is an opportunity!
I’ve had this interest in geocaching for like 10 years or so and so I made an account in 2018 but just made my first find last month and I was so right to be interested in it it’s exactly as fun as I thought it would be. just sharing that you’ve been somewhere and found the thing that was placed there specifically to be found with other people that have found it also by signing the logs and leaving/collecting treasures is cool as hell. Like. I love it it genuinely makes me happy and gets me outside more and into places I otherwise would never go and to interact with others positively
And I’ll admit that I’m not the type to look up people who share an interest of mine ie I won’t go on yt or or tt or whatever and look up “geocaching” or “geocachers” and tbh after this post I probably will but I need to discuss smth on the matter of geocaching in the united states lol
There’s no geocaches in the hood and I feel a way about it, not necessarily negatively but not all the way positively either.
On one hand I prefer for there to not be white people poking around places that they really don’t need to be but on the other hand where the fuck am /I/ supposed to find and place geocaches lmaoooooooo bc here’s the thing
Just as much as I don’t want white people where they Shouldn’t Be, I know they don’t want me where I “shouldn’t be” lmaoooooo
And there are times—like right now lol—where I’ll be out with my husband as he’s at work (so that I don’t feel like killing my self by staying in the house, yall know how it is) driving around installing windshields all around de northern front range and we inevitably end up in white neighborhoods and there will be nearby geocaches and I’ll be like “alright I’m gonna go hit this cache while you do that windshield rq love you brb” and he lovingly would prefer I not go bc ‘there’s all that blue lives matter bullshit around here’ or bc we’re in a sundowny ass part of CO or even just bc it’s a housing development full of bored white people just waiting to call the cops on this big scary brown bitch poking around like she’s looking for something which I mean they wouldn’t be wrong and of course I’ve had police roll up and ask what I was doing even while not geocaching lmao so it’s not like an unrealistic fear. I really am a big scary brown bitch and I really would be poking around like I was looking for something lmao and like even though I wouldn’t be doing anything wrong I just don’t want to make my husband all anxious if he hears I had to explain myself to police and then he just wouldn’t like me geocaching in predominantly white areas at all and here we circle back to OKAY WHERE THE FUCJ ELSE AM I SUPPO-, you see where I’m going here. But I’m not mad at him bc I would feel the exact same way if he were the geocacher.
And like I want to place a cool lil cache around my mom’s house but I also know my fam would NOT be okay with random white people walking and digging ariund like they’re trying to find things because there no doubt would be lol geocaching is mainly white people. For sure I KNOW there’s Cachers Of Color but it’s mainly white.
Anyways let me go look up geocachers bc I know they have a bunch of tips and shit I can use on my lil hunts anyway yk
i found a geocache!
i didn’t see anything i wanted to trade, and so i simply signed the log and left a labubu figurine along with one of my wooden coins :)
In the interest of introducing people to niche hobbies, I want to make some headcanons about how the society, once they're older and can go places on their own without guardians, would geocache!
Reynie - Very much enjoys puzzle caches. Loves making them, solving them, sits and stares at a computer screen or a notepad for hours on end sometimes just to decipher coordinates for a particularly challenging cache. He definitely is working on a fizzy with the help of Kate climbing trees for high-up caches.
Sticky - Remembers every cache he's ever been to but still keeps a journal separate of the site listing the caches he has been to and his honest thoughts. Sometimes he thinks he's being mean if he says he wasn't as enthusiastic about a particular cache (he never is), but he keeps tabs of which types of caches he enjoys best. The journal on his caches became so worn and destroyed he's gone through five journals--and he doesn't do a cache a page, he's written in the margins and made the most of those notebooks. He proudly keeps them on a separate shelf in his room.
Constance - Doesn't cache far from home. Her maximum distance of acceptable travel is probably 100 miles, but when a new cache comes out in her area she is absolutely the first to find 98% of the time, and the other 2% is Kate cheating. (Also known as Constance was asleep when the notif ce in.) She places caches with insanely high difficulty levels and keeps tabs on everyone who's smart enough to find them as a possible ally or rival.
Kate - Doesn't look for geocaches often unless she's with someone else--she's more oriented towards getting places than the scenery along the way. She does place caches, though. Everywhere she can. Most of these caches have a 1 difficulty but a 4.5 or 5 terrain, and she severely overestimates how skilled other people are at reaching her caches. She might scale a twenty foot tree no problem, but Reynie or Sticky have to remind her to use the "special equipment needed" button on those hides. Constance hates Kate's caches but stubbornly continues to be the FtF if she can--she has a reputation to uphold, after all!
This is such a a niche hobby. Niche enough I can't share my username for anonymity's sake. But I hope y'all ask questions. Or comment. Or just interact in general. Geocaching is fun.

GeoWeek Ending: 31 May 26
Well folks I made it to 1000 geocaches! I started this journey back in May 2024 when my sister suggested it on vacation in California. Since then I have cached in 2 countries, 12 states, found the 1000, created 57 of my own, and attended 4 events.
I don’t know how much gas money I’ve spent on this hobby, as now it gets more and more since I’ve done most of them around where I live.
It’s worth it though. I’ve explored places I would have never if it weren’t for geocaches. Hiked some incredible hikes, used the park anywhere lights, it’s great 👍
Onward to #2000
This was at Niagara Falls, got a few Adventure Labs which were cool, and I found 3 earth caches at Niagara. Would recommend
