I’ve decided that I want to become well read. Ive always said that I wanted to, but I’ve never actually done it. Like I’m BETTER read than a lot of people ik. (Not in a pretentious way I promise) but thats just with basic literature ive read in AP lit classes.
So Ive decided to try and ACTUALLY plan this out.
1) in order to be well read I have to actually READ. So I need to figure out how to incorporate reading into my everyday. And that means I need to stop being so addicted to my phone. So in order to do that I’m going to try and go a whole day every week without my phone. And maybe even try going a week without it. And I’ll probably get a reading tracker thay way I’ll feel more motivated if I see my progress.
2) now besides actually picking up a book I need to figure out WHAT I want to be well read in. Being well read doesn’t mean just knowing a LOT about one thing. You have to be well versed in a plethora of things but also know THOSE things very deeply.
So I’ve picked that I want to be well read in: literature, politics, history, andddddd science. Mostly literature and politics.
3) now that I know what to focus on I just have to find books that fulfill these topics.
I think I know A LOT abt British lit bc I’ve taken a British lit class so idk if I wanna start there. And plus when I looked up books to read if In order to be well read they listed a bunch I’ve alr read. So I would like some diverse books from different countries (translated into English bc that’s all I KNOW)
Now for politics I found this yt channel thay teaches me the basics about different types of governments. But I would also like to read up on international laws. And maybe even regular National laws. And it would be good to keep up with modern news. But really what I WANT is to just read a whole lot of banned books. Like 1984. I loved 1984- the way that book changed me and how I view everything. I’ve read a whole bunch tho- I read Fahrenheit 451, and the Handmaids tale, catcher in the eye, and the road
Now when I say “history” I mean like obv the past, but also culture and language. Especially learning abt the past that the American school system won’t teach kids. And maybe I need to pick up a language. I know English obv. And as an Arab American I can speak Arabic (sorta read it, hardly write it but I take classes for that anyways) and I took Spanish for five years so ik a bunch of that. Idk if I should DEEPEN my learning for those, or if I should pick up a new language.
And for understanding science I will find a bunch of lectures to watch. Bc I literally cannot be BOTHERED to read another chemistry textbook. And also I’m going into a science based major so I’ll be learning abt that everyday.
4) this isn’t really a step but this is me asking you if you have any books recs (ESPECIALLY books like 1984), podcasts, yt channels, tips (not the pink one)
