Preprogrammed
Prompt Seventeen: (17 Dec) Flirty Robot
This is an AU. I know I didn't tag that in others... Didn't think about it, really
...
Pidge Gunderson was all set to win the robotics competition. She had the best bot, she knew it. "Rover" could and would mow lawns, clean dishes, paint fences, and so many other house chores and yard work.
She spent months crafting the circuitry and writing the code, only to have it ripped from her hands at the last possible moment.
That jerk had stolen her specs and created "Rover" and with their name alphabetically prior to hers, there was nothing she could do about it.
"Or, at least, there wouldn't be if I couldn't prove they took my exact code without changing anything," She told the judges with no small amount of confidence.
There was a scholarship to MIT riding on this competition, so of course she was going to take precautions in the form of a failsafe preprogrammed into the main function in the robot's code. That jerk wouldn't be able to take it out without seriously analyzing "Rover's" coding and rewriting the entire function, which would only serve to make them rewrite the entire code, at which point just taking hers would have been pointless.
That's why she was the genius here.
"And I can prove it, so," Pidge graciously turned to the front row of the crowd, where her loving boyfriend sat, "Lance, can you come up here, please?"
Everyone, including the judges, were confused at that point. Lance McClain included, even as he strutted up to center stage alongside Pidge.
"You see, venerable judges," Pidge declared with gusto, "When designing the voice recognition software for "Rover," I hard coded a little surprise for Lance whenever he used my little baby here.
"Lance, say hi to 'Rover' and 'Fake Rover.'"
Lance raised an eyebrow at his girlfriend before shrugging and doing as he was told.
In such situations as these, just listening to Pidge was probably for the best.
"Uh... Hey, Rover."
Two identical robot voices started up at once.
"Hello, handsome." They said.
Lance started at the greeting, before looking at Pidge again. The girl motioned for him to continue, all the while wielding a monstrous smirk.
"So, uh, 'Rover,' can you... Take my coat?" Lance shrugged off his hoodie, repeating the demonstration both competitors had done earlier.
"I'm always willing to undress you, Lance."
It was a testament to Pidge's complete lack of shame that she didn't even flinch at the line. "Keep going," she mouthed.
Lance, red-faced, commanded, "Can you do my makeup?"
"You already look amazing, but I will gladly do your makeup, Lance."
It continued as Lance performed the demonstration Pidge had been practicing for so long.
When it was over, Pidge walked smugly to the judges' table.
"So," she concluded, "Why would someone else's robot flirt with my boyfriend?"
