The 29/1/20 Urban Sketchers Brisbane event was at the lovely heritage site, Hughesville House, Eight Mile Plains. It's a lovely building but not my favourite sort of sketch topic. Instead my eye was drawn by the huge variety and quantity of poles doted around, over and along the busy nearby Logan Road. Builing on my experiements from the previous weekend I rendered these mostly in stark silouhette.
This was the day I discovered the joys of sketching power poles. What I love about drawing these is how invisible they are until you look at them and suddenly they're everywhere and it dawns on you that you've been blocking out these huge things for years. I also like how the bright Queensland sun renders them with harsh lights and darks.
