DAVID WYMACK APPRECIATION POST
Can we all take a moment to appreciate the amazing Papa-bear that is David Wymack???
I mean he was abused as a child, yet didn't turn against the world and instead tries to help young people out of those situations and give them something. Yes he knew it would be tough yes he knew the problems he would face yes he knew the flaws in the plan but he still tried and tried and fought and fought and fought. He lost so much but he never stopped giving.
A lot of his Foxes quit, flunked out or went off the rails. Jainy slit her wrists. Seth has presumably overdosed / tried to multiple times in the past and then dies in an apparent suicide. Seth who had been there from the start, who Wymack had seen through thick and thin from freshman year to fifth senior year. Seth, who Wymack honestly thought was getting better.
He keeps fighting. He keeps helping. He keeps giving.
Andrew gets raped and put into rehab.
What does Wymack do? He fights. He fights for his Foxes even though he knows they have almost no chance of winning without Andrew. He fights and he fights and he fights.
Neil fucks off to The Nest and comes back broken. Wymack puts him back together enough for Andrew to hold him together.
Andrew almost kills Allison.
Wymack isn't scared to rip into him for it but he also knows where Andrew's lines are and where they are not and he knows when ripping into him is pointless.
Let's not forget that Andrew openly tells Neil that Wymack knows he isn't a sociopath, Wymack knows that's not what he was medicated for, and Wymack knows what he was medicated for.
Wymack is there every step of the way for his Foxes and honestly he is amazing and beautiful and deserves a lot more credit than he is given.
** side note: Wymack is there every step of the way for Andrew. Andrew, who everyone else has given up on. Andrew, who breaks into his apartment multiple times. Andrew, who has likely threatened his life. Andrew, who no one understands.
Wymack is there when Andrew needs a shoulder to cry on (this totally happens and anyone who says differently is lying to themselves) even if it's not literal tears; Andrew lets himself be vulnerable in front of Wymack. Wymack is there when Andrew needs to drink himself blind and he's there when Andrew needs watched to make sure he takes his meds and he's there when Andrew wants off his meds and he's there when Andrew is sober. Wymack is there when Andrew needs someone to rant to - showing up randomly just to shout and vent about his crush and Wymack is there to listen. He doesn't try to offer advice because he knows that's not what Andrew wants or needs. Wymack is there when Andrew is fresh out of hospital and understands him; when Andrew is torn between whether to take the front or back seat Wymack understands the dilemma quicker and better than Neil does. Wymack is there when Andrew is out of rehab and gets to know him again and he is there every step of the way for this boy. Wymack could be fired and Andrew could go to jail because Wymack lets Andrew come off his meds for game nights and he doesn't stop him from drinking and he rewards him with shit and he doesn't try to get him off dust. But does Wymack let this stop him from supporting this boy? No. Everyone focuses on how well Neil speaks Andrewian - but no one seems to realise how well Wymack speaks it. And that's amazing.
