She steps forward. “Did she flinch?” she asks. “When you touched her?” Seth freezes, remembering that moment in the labyrinth when Elena had shied away from his touch like a wounded animal backed into a corner. Slowly his eyes slide over to her, wondering how she could possibly know. She smiles bitterly – knowingly. “A girl like that doesn’t flinch for just anybody,” she assures him. He thinks of her steady gun hand in their standoff in the RV, her cool, unemotional voice as she asked him if she seemed like a girl who bluffed. To tell the truth, she seemed like the kind of girl who didn’t shy away from much of anything.
