after that angst fest im gonna move onto a pokemon mystery dungeon au and assign characters to pokemon BUT
i am ignoring visions bc i don't want characters to be restricted to flying/rock/ground/electric/grass/water/fire/ice types
the in game vision assignment is unrelated to how pokemon types are assigned so i am instead assigning based on character traits & personality
starting with knightlight2:
Flins - Chandelure
no surprises here. its a ghost. its a lantern. its a ghost lantern that appears at graves homes funerals etc. with flames rumored to suck the life out of people like how fae get nightmare stories made up about em. there is not much to talk about this particular choice
sorry Flins fans i do not have a lot to say about this besides "chandelure makes spirits wander the world. Flins stays in one place while watching over the ghosts that still reside in the cemetery. neat"
Illuga - Togetic
i chose the fairy type for Illuga's personality with how he seems like a prince or knight straight out of a fairy tale (ayo knight from a fairy tale is that a sprinkle of illuhen in MY post?) so i thought it fit. i was originally going to go with Kirlia as a middle staged fairy type that starts from the shy yet sensitive Ralts and becomes more emotionally in tune as a Kirlia before choosing between Gardevoir & Gallade as both are protective, gentle, and caring protectors simply depicted in 2 different forms. and honestly? i think this still fits just as well, with how sweet and tender Illuga is always looking after everyone both physically and emotionally.
so why did i choose Togetic? besides the bird motif i mean
well for starters Togetic starts from the small, weak, and near helpless eggy baby Togepi. an actual egg baby that needs high friendship to become a Togetic, which i am choosing to interpret in this case as his adoption and bond with his father Nikita. now he is a Togetic, someone who wants to be a light in the sky that inspires and brings happiness to those around him. that tracks, right? so, why isn't he a Togekiss yet? all he needs is a shiny stone, so why is he still a Togetic?
Togekiss only appear when there is no strife, and never appear in a time of violence
im interpretting this as Illuga not feeling safe enough to move on. he is still living in a time of fear and danger after all, even with Rerir gone the Wild Hunt's remnants are still a threat to the people. he cannot afford to move and live on yet, not until peacetime has finally been achieved for all. he cannot become a Togekiss until he is sure that there is no strife to avoid left in Nod Krai
Lohen - Zweilous
I wanted Lohen to be a dark type bc of his cunning and mischievous personality. while this also aligns with fairy type, i thought dark fit more with his battle hungry personality and violent temperament
the Deino line's story follows a small child exploring the world through its only means: violence. then, they become more confident in their strength, but also aggressive towards not only others but themselves as Zweilous is a 2 headed dragon, usually at odds. the final evolution only possible at a very, very late and high level, is a powerful and terrifying hydra of great power best known by others for its wrath.
i picked Zweilous specifically interpreting Deino as his child self learning his limits likes and dislikes for the first time from sneaking out to fight, and Zweilous being his current self that is still growing and learning how to tolerate others and himself. maybe one day, just like a Zweilous, in the game he'll come to his own as a beastly dragon that can rival even Ursa the Drake. but until then, he has a long way to go
Varka - Lucario
Lucario is often described as the "furry mascot of shounen", which considering canine and Varka being a highly anticipated warrior knight of Mondstadt fits pretty well i think. i think the connection is also strengthened by Lucario being a fast mixed attacker like how Varka is compatible with a numerous amount of elements in his gameplay, with Lucario's two megas adding onto this as well
i originally went through the fighting types for Varka, and Lucario just clicked
its a warrior pokemon that reads the thoughts and feelings of others through aura, typically fighting alongside noble trainers it trusts from bonding with them to high friendship.
Varka is someone all of the knights trust and confide in. no, someone almost all of Mondstadt trusts and confides in. he is the pinnacle of knighthood to them, the Knight of Boreas. someone like him... Lucario fits pretty well, i think.
