When we were at Fort Desoto Beach, we saw these birds we thought were dead and lying on the beach. Turns out that they are Black Skimmers that sleep lying down. They feed at night by flying over the water with their lower beak dipped in the water to scoop up fish. Very different bird behavior according to: https://www.audubon.org/news/the-black-skimmer BTW, We learned this using Google Lens. We use Google Photos to backup our phone pics. It has a cool feature called Google Lens. Looking at the picture in Google Photos, hit the Google Lens button and it tries to identify what is in the picture. It works "most" of the time. For us it is like a park ranger in your phone. It names trees, birds, plants, almost anything. It is wrong sometimes, but we have good luck most of the time. Especially if you crop out everything else. #blackskimmers #Googlelens #pocketranger #rvlife #birds #strangebehavior #audobonsociety (at Fort Desoto Beach) https://www.instagram.com/p/BtpoOpZnNDZ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=k03vinju0frx
