Obviously there's personal as well as cultural differences, but from a US American perspective sometimes you have to give someone space when they're upset or they won't be able to express those feelings. Emotions are embarrassing and people will push their feelings aside to prevent acquaintances and casual friends from seeing them.
Thanks for the comment! I always think that there are cultural and personal things that I don't know of when people do or don't certain things, but obviously, my experience with US people is limited to people who come to Europe.
I think generally we feel the same way about emotions but we may give more time than space, if that makes sense. Like, take your time to figure them out but in the meantime, I will be here, physically close so you don't feel alone on top of whatever else you are feeling.
They might feel rejected or distant, especially if the affected partner uses avoidance as a coping mechanism.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is not an individual’s disorder. While it certainly affects the person diagnosed, its ripples extend to people around them, especially their close relationships. Touch can be used as a tool for communicating empathy, even resulting in an analgesic, painkilling effect. To combat loneliness, let’s set up coffee dates instead of screen time
Listen, I had a roller coaster of a night and there’s no reason for me to be awake and lonely at 2am but here I am.
I had a long convo with a dance friend the other night and she’s totally on the same page with me about dance and the physical contact/touch starvation relief it brings
Fast forward 5 days - I HAVENT BEEN TO DANCE SINCE FRIDAY AND IM SLOWLY SHRIVELING UP SOMEONE HUG ME
This is so true!
