Legolas tells Gimli some of his family history and they discuss a few of the similarities and differences between their peoples, those of gender and identity mainly. Or: doing some world-building for elvish and dwarvish society through a genderqueer lens. Also playing a little fast-and-loose with Silm canon, but if Tolkien wanted me to be more accurate he should have maybe given us some actual facts about the biggest enduring elvish kingdom in the Third Age other than just that it's "got big spiders."

As preparations for the wedding of Aragorn Elessar and Arwen Undómiel get underway in Gondor, some of its citizens entertain questions about the appropriateness of wedding their new king to one who comes from such a different culture. Gimli has questions of his own about this elvish wedding, and he would task Legolas with answering them—preferably where other elves are too far away to hear, lest he say anything that might offend those delicate pointy ears!
