Intro ig? - “why tf is there a pediatric nurse and middle school science teacher in space.”
As rylands grogginess slowly dissipated, he ventured the Hail Mary, confusion and fear coursing through his system. He climbed ladders, went through uncharted doorways, whilst ignoring the worried robot, which matters seemed far less important than his…But he himself couldn’t tell you what he was looking for. The puzzle in his brain had been destroyed and pieces were everywhere making everything way more complicated than he felt it should. This feeling was halted as the talking ship had informed him that he was alive, but so was someone else… this concept was abruptly interrupted when he heard what sounded like a muffled moan come from what he interpreted as a vacant corridor. Ryland was Cautious (but who wouldn’t be?) and grab the nearest weapon (which so happened to be a screwdriver) and tiptoed to the closed door. Ryland was able to interept the moans into broken, heavier Sobs. One that could only even come from a Human. As the door slid open the sobs ceased as soon as they started, and Ryland was shocked to see a girl who seemed not too far from his age, curled up against the hard metal, holding her head as blood trickled through the crevice of her fingers….both were met with high pitch cries.
Grace knew he was a klutz, getting bruises from God knows where, always nicking his finger or arm and the occasional chest on a sharp object, or even lightheadedness, from forgetting vital resources for human contingency. And the entire Hail Mary Crew knew it as well. They knew Grace would be around open chemicals and procedures so much that if he was exposed, he might wake up with three arms. So their best option for someone with the physical awareness of a 5 year old? A pediatric nurse. They needed someone to be by his side 24/7, and they didn’t want to waste vital care to watch him 24/7. When Grace heard said news, he almost quit the mission right then and there.
“You hired me a professional babysitter?” Grace protested, trying to make a statement, while also trying to ignore the voice crack he got while saying professional.
“It’s for the best, Dr.Grace. You had made very meaningful advancements yes, but you’re also—how do I put this…— stupidly clumsy.” Stratt responded, cool toned as ever. “Plus, I think you’d enjoy her company. She seems to have a soft spot for people like you.” Stratt picked up her stuff and started to get escorted out of her office.
“People like…hey!! What do you mean people like me what-? She takes care of sick kids Stratt!” He continued to protest, “ I. AM NOT. A SICK. KID.”
“You’ll love her!” Stratt replied, before she was out of an ear shot.
