phlebotomy question: can we ask you to do our blood types or like, do we have to ask a dr/np for that test to be sent to you?
(also thank you for your work, phlebotomists have always been really cool every time i have to see them which is a lot)
it really depends on the facility! i work in a primary care office as the in-house phleb, and at my job, i don't run the tests myself - we contract with labcorp and quest to do our testing. i collect & process the samples (centrifuge, pour off serum/plasma as necessary, etc) and then send them on their merry way. so for me, i'd need an order from a provider to run that specific test, and i know from experience that blood typing is one that insurances love to try not to cover. i'm not sure how it works at other facilities that run their own testing, though!
if you ask your pcp to order it for you, you can always ask for the CPT code so you can call your insurance and see if they'll cover it - just be prepared that you may need to pay out of pocket for it. or like. go to labcorp directly and cough up the 45 bucks lol
