#phantom characters

Using my New Kid to practice anatomy and expressions as well as experiment with my style a little bit. Here she is at various ages, plus a Kenny and a Cartman cause why not.

Now I'll talk about the male characters that fit this role and you are free to add if you feel so:

MELKOR MORGOTH (fanart by me)

Imagine my utter shock when I first read Silm (after I read L0TR) and I learned that it was not Sauron the Big Bad of Middle-Earth. As Tolkien himself said:

Melkor himself was cast out from the World at the end of the First Age, but his powerful will altered the world in such a manner that his shadow will loom over it forever, manifesting in each form of evil.

FËANOR (fanart by me)

To me, Fëanor feels like Tolkien's Ned Stark. I knew about him before starting reading Silm and I thought the book was going to be mainly about him. So imagine my #2 shock when I reached the part when Fëanor dies.

However, his actions, his choises and mistakes manifested in the form of his prized Silmarills and his terrible Oath is what drive the plot of Silmarillion and, by extension, the whole history of the First Age.

ËARENDIL (fanart by Jenny Dolfen)

éala éarendel engla beorhtast / ofer middangeard monnum sended

"Hail Earendel, brightest of angels / sent over Middle-earth to men."

This lyrics inspired not only Ëarendil's character, but the whole legendarium as well.Ëarendil is, thus, both a Jesus Christ type of figure and a character whose willing sacrifice to carry the Last Silmaril in his voyages across the skies marked the end of Morgoth's reign of terror at the end of the First Age.

Ëarendil becomes, alongside Varda, a symbol of light and hope and I like the parallel between Jesus being brought in the world by Virgin Mary vs how Varda set Ëarendil as a star in the sky to diminish Melkor's dark power in Middle-Earth.

As you can see with these three characters, there are three types of phantom-characters in Tolkien's world:

The one who is clearly evil (Melkor)

The one who is a morally-grey character (Fëanor)

The one who is a clearly good (Ëarendil)

A few caps of the bosses (well, the Boss and the Ex-Boss) in SR4. Canon divergence/AU; Dante, the big beefy dorito, was the Boss at the end of SR1 and all the way through SR2. Between 2 & 3, he handed control over to Cell, his smol bean of a sister, ppl flipped shit because she’s a lot younger than he is. 8 years younger. but she manages. they’re viciously protective of each other and kinda scary when they join forces

but yeah Cell wanted Dante in her cabinet, he hates politics so he ““politely declined””, he happened to be in New York City when Zinyak attacked and he got picked up. what a coincidence right
