The 15 Minute Challenge
As I've been searching for a job while my writing and new editing business get off the ground, I've been trying to find a job to pay the bills. So, I'm interviewing for the first time in ages and haven't worked for over a year. It's a bit scary for me and the anxiety doesn't like it at all. But the interview is scheduled for only fifteen minutes and it just made me think:
How much can I get done in fifteen minutes? How productive can I be in this allotted time?
Sometimes coming back from burnout, stress, other responsibilities is hard! We all have different experiences and trials. It just makes me think of how to encourage ourselves when we may not know where to start or may worry about how much we actually have to do with their project.
So, my challenge: Just take fifteen minutes and see what you can do. It's going to be scary but it's going to help you see things differently.
If you're not sure where to start:
List character traits for your MC/Villain/Side Character
List important scenes you'd like to include in your book/story
Write that random scene you've been dying to write
What or who is your main conflict? Do you know why? How does this conflict work against your characters? How will the characters overcome it? Let this guide you
Work on the next part of your project (yes, this is the just write suggestion, I know it sounds horrible)
Is there a worldbuilding detail that needs fleshing out? Do it!
Why are your writing this story? What is your intent in writing this particular story? Knowing this can really help guide your writing
Do you know your villain? Why are they doing what they're doing?
Is there a background scene about your villain that doesn't fit in your project but are interested in exploring? Write it!
Just start.
