Monday
Trying to pull myself together for another week.
I'm always fascinated by the ice formations in and around the creek. However, this painting has never gotten any positive commentary from viewers at any of the shows I've displayed it in. Kind of a lesson in 'what I like may not be popular with other people.' I painted most of this in town at a demo/public event. Another artist tried to help me by criticizing my color choice while I was working. She thought it should have purple instead of blue. Maddening, honestly.
The end of winter is so, so drab. Hold on a bit longer! This was my first try at plein air, and I discovered that it's a bad idea to sit still outside in winter temps. Obvious in retrospect, but I was used to moving around (farm work or fun activities) in the cold. When I stopped holding still, focused on painting, and started listening to my body again, the news was dire.
Redbud trees blooming - everybody likes. I lucked out with three days in a row of having time to paint and the same, sunny weather.
Newly planted cornfield. Anything seems possible in May. Multiple people have told me they love the frame. However. That is paint. Painted canvas; not wood. I get a chuckle out of that every time.
High summer. Hayfields and swimming holes.
September hits, green with a hint of gold. This lightning-struck tree is hanging in there patiently.
So much gold . . . gold everywhere.
Conclusion; we WILL survive February. Hang in there, my friends.
writers. artists. knitters. crocheters (is that the term? I don’t crochet lol). painters. sketch artists. musicians. song writers. anyone who makes something, I’m talking to you.
perfection is a fool’s errand.

shrimp girl update
Back in April, you may remember Gael and Irwin participated in a plush painting party. We finally had a chance to do another this weekend!
This time, we would be painting Machu Picchu. Gael and Irwin both felt like we could all pull this off.
Irwin helped a little bit!
But as you might be able to see, Gael did most of the actual painting. I think she enjoys it the most of any of us 😊 There's just something to be said for getting lost in creating something all on your own. No expectations except to just have fun.
And we certainly did!
What do you think? I know you have to stretch your imagination to see it, but I feel like we got pretty decently close to something you can at least say looks like Machu Picchu.
This was so cozy and fun. Laura Rose Paints is the person you'll want to look up on Instagram. Click here if you're interested in joining the fun next time. Even bears like Gael and Irwin, not to mention weird humans like me, found this whole thing to be pretty easy. That's with no real painting experience either!
We definitely want to do another soon! Look how amazing everyone else did 😁 This was exactly what I needed on a Saturday.
