Help my Trans Nonbinary Partner Finish their Opticianry Program
Hi folks! I'm not usually one to post these things, but my partner, Liam (they/he), is currently in the process of studying to be a licensed optician in the state of Massachusetts, and we've run into some trouble.
Liam's employer was ostensibly going to cover a significant portion of their tuition costs, but Warby Parker recently asked them to sign a new, highly predatory contract which would require much more than the contract they had initially signed. It also would put them in jeopardy of having to repay everything in a short period of time were they fired or laid off, which is concerning giving the company's attitude towards their chronic pain needs.
As such, after consulting others with experience regarding labor contracts, they have decided not to sign this new contract, which puts them in a tricky financial place. We could use a little help getting the money they need to keep their schooling going. I should note that their current work is contingent upon them being a student, since without that status their certification is invalid.
