George Mayerle's "international eye chart"
(positive) ca. 1907.
One of many immigrants to live in early 20th-century San Francisco, Mayerle — an optician originally from Germany — invented this chart which allowed anyone to do an eye test regardless of what language they spoke.
Optician here from planet Earth... SO COOL TO SEE GLASSES I'VE WORKED WITH IN SPACE!!!
No, I didn't literally work with the astronaut's personal frames, but I have done a lot for my own patients! I even wear them myself!
If you have a curious mind like I do, and love observing even the tiniest details, you may have been wondering what glasses they are wearing up there in space...

The brand is called Silhouette, they're known for being super lightweight and having customizable lens shapes and designs. I have a pair myself and they're so cool they might be my favorite pair now after watching the crew throughout the mission..

It looks like both Commander Reid Wiseman and Mission Specialist Christina Koch are wearing the Titan Next Generation frame with a rectangular and rounded lens shape. And although I believe the frame is discontinued I have still seen it and worked with it before- Pilot Victor Glover appears to be wearing Purist frames, also with a rectangular lens.
My personal frames are below. I wear The Dawn frames with a teardrop lens shape, tinted with a Blue 1 to Rose 1 gradient for style points.
My manager was teasing me the other day being like "well if you're obsessed with space you picked the wrong field to work in" and I was like
"no you know what, glasses are a medical device, and some astronauts wear glasses.” Plus I forgot to mention lens coatings and technology for windows and cameras, much of which were invented by NASA themselves!
My adhd superpowers completely owned my manager. And if ever any of the Artemis II crew needs their glasses adjusted, repaired, or even cleaned, I'd be happy and honored to do so.
Do you need glasses?
Yes, I am short-sighted
Yes, I am long-sighted
Yes, I am both short-sighted and long-sighted
Yes, I am partially sighted or blind
No, but I wear contact lenses
No, my eyes are perfectly healthy
No, I've had laser eye surgery to fix my vision
No, I am blind

I was at my optician yesterday and drew Randal in the kids section (´ー`) it's the only drawing in all the notebook so I'm kinda scared those are ACTUALLY books for school (●__●).
The picture is kinda bad but I only could take one.
Eye C howawa it is..
Me at 13: I hate maths and physics! I will never use it in life as I’ll never have a job that needs it!
Me at 21: *cries as an optician*
