Another Vionnet stunner. I’m smitten with the drape of the bodice, the way the sleeves cup the body, and how the plunging neck is mirrored in the back of the gown. The dramatic hem is intriguing too with bands of velvet and silk set off with a metal ribbon applique in an art deco motif. Circa 1938.

I was literally just thinking to myself earlier "it's actually a miracle that nobody on my mom's side with the Yurok ancestry actually had a boarding school experience" because I simply hadn't seen any documentation about it so far in researching!!
RIGHT??
APPARENTLY NOT
Amanda Bland, daughter of Edward McDonald. My 1st cousin 4x removed. The fucked up thing is I read censuses and I see where people live, and I have no clue when she would have attended because she was present in California in 1910 and 1920, when she would've been of school age. The East Farm Sanitarium was for TB patients, so was she like.... sent home?
She only died in 1969. She wasn't even 70 years old.
Thinking about it, theres a possibility that my family might be on whatever roll the rancheria uses and that would permanently bar my family from being on the main roll. I'd be certain if somebody would fucking talk to me

An incredibly smart linen summer suit that was originally owned by the Duke of Windsor, made by H. Harris, 1941.
This lovely 1918 beaded crepe party dress shows the very beginnings of the flapper fashions of the 1920s.
