Since moving in a few months ago, Olayemi and Azzédine had grown closer...

That is, if ‘closer’ constituted no longer awkwardly leaving the common areas of the apartment when Azzédine entered. Though, ‘Dine (DEEHN), as she liked to be called, owned the apartment- so...perhaps that’s why Olayemi still felt like a stranger in her own home months into living there.

“I think I found a new job..”

“You think?” ‘Dine repeated, before rolling onto the hot water bottle, in an attempt to ease her cramping. “Why the uncertainty?”

“I don’t know..” Olayemi started, pulling her phone away from Chylo’s curious paws. “I saw the job posting outside the grocery store. I have to meet the person and his daughter first.”

‘Dine laughed. “You asked to meet in public right? That could be a craigslist killer..” As shy as Olayemi was when they met, ‘Dine was surprised craigslist gigs seemed to be the primary source of the girl’s income.

“Of course! We’re going to meet at The Grill in Georgetown first.”

“That expensive ass restaurant where a simple glass Merlot is like $45? I didn’t know you were rolling like that Olayemi.” ‘Dine peeked up from her own phone and offered a smirk.

“It’s expensive?” She asked, meeting ‘Dine’s gaze with a look of hesitation. The whole reason she was going to the Grill was to secure a job. Not spend more money. “Well, I’m just going to eat before I leave and order the cheapest appetizer they have when I get there.” It was more of an interview anyway. Olayemi didn’t think the occasion called for a 5 star course.

With her groceries in hand, Olayemi begins to head home before she spots a bulletin board near the store’s parking lot. It certainly couldn’t hurt to look for another gig, considering the money she made from the show on U street a few weeks ago, had nearly run it’s course. The sign read...

The rate lists $20 an hour.

The handwriting was neat, but rushed. Olayemi ripped a perforated slip from the flyer. She was a decent swimmer, (from the few summers she spent with family in Rio.) and was hardly in a position to be picky about jobs. A job that paid $20/hr could cover her rent for the next month, at the very least.
