Telemachus my boy
Odysseus is a manipulative liar but Homer thinks this is actually really cool and based and makes him one of the greats like Hercules and Achilles.
Just as Homer intended

This might be controversial, but I see a lot of people complaining about Helen of Sparta being portrayed as a Black woman in Christopher Nolan’s The Odyssey. Yet those same people seem to think Matt Damon is an “accurate” choice to play Odysseus.
We’re talking about Matt Damon, a man with pale skin, straight blonde hair, and blue eyes.
Don’t get me wrong, I personally don’t really care about the characters’ appearances in the movie. I already know it won’t be faithful to the original texts, and first and foremost, it’s a Hollywood film, so I’m not expecting a truly accurate adaptation, not even a good one.
What stands out to me is this: why do I only see backlash when Helen or Athena are portrayed as Black women, but not when Odysseus is played by a blonde, blue-eyed man? Have these people actually read the Homeric texts? Because Odysseus is described as “dark of color", with a “dark beard.”

And with "Locks that flow in curls like the Hyacinth flower" Knowing that "Hyacinthine hair" is a way to refer to dark, thick and curly hair.
The oddysey, Book 23
What I’m trying to say is that. Either be consistent and criticize all the casting choices, or don’t complain at all. Because when the criticism is only directed at Black women, it raises questions about why that’s the only thing people seem to have a problem with.
I'd like to hear your opinions; I'm really struggling to draw people in profile
