Raise your hand if you have ever wished for your illness to go away so you can be happy 🙋🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️🙋🏼♀️ (x a million). I am someone who spent a lot of her life wishing it away. I wished for high school to come. I wished for a boyfriend. I wish for high school to end and college to start. I wished to be married. And yes, I constantly wished for my illness to be gone and to be happy. How sad is this thinking? It’s time for us to put a STOP to this practice. Why are we wishing our lives away? Yes life is hard and sometimes you feel like crying on the floor surrounded by Oreos, soda, and tissues (I’ve been there... many times). But it doesn’t make you any happier in the end. I’m not saying you can’t feel the emotions of what you’re going through. Feel them, it’s healthy. But don’t wallow. Don’t get sucked in the vacuum of self pity and despair. Trust me from my experience, nothing good comes out of it. So stop waiting for Friday. Stop waiting for the stars to align to enjoy where you are at now. I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but that time will most likely never come when you want it too. So let’s make the best of right now! Try to find the beauty of everyday life. Try to find the splendor of being human and living. Often we take for granted the sights we see, things we touch, smells we inhale, and so much more. Find the beauty in today and even if it’s just for a moment, feel the joy. Your problems won’t go away, so you can go back to them later. But take a break and find the peace. I’m right there with you. It’s not easy but I find that it makes the days more bearable and boosts my spirits. Today’s beautiful moment so far has been laying on the couch, listening to the birds sing, window open with a breeze and typing out this heart felt post. What has been your beautiful moment? Or what do you plan on doing to feel joy today? Can’t wait to hear🌸 #motivationalmonday #ocdvocate #mentalillnessfeelslike #mentalhealthawareness #mentalillnessawareness #anxietyrecovery #beproudofyourself #stigmafighter #bekindtoyourself #findthebeauty #findthejoy #beautifulmoments #loveyourself #selfcare (at Rexburg, Idaho) https://www.instagram.com/p/BvKM-qInZYT/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1phuemf2kkj5b
A little motivational Monday quote to kick off your week. Sometimes we forget that our problems won’t clear up in a few weeks. At this time last year, I was in a pretty bad place. I was having a difficult time doing simple tasks and really hating where I was. I made the decision to keep pushing forward and fighting, hoping that within a few months I would be back to how I was before the decline started. It’s been a year and I’m still not quite there. I expected healing within a few months, but it’s been a year of facing fears, trusting the process, and letting go of things; and I’m still working on it. I am in a much better place, but I am no where near where I want to be. It would be easy for me to start hating on myself and talking negatively about myself since I didn’t reach my goal, but I have realized that that will not help me. I have to fight every day, keep pushing, and recognize that healing doesn’t happen on my time table. Good things truly do take time, even though we wish they didn’t. So stay strong in your fight. Don’t give up. Keep pushing. Give yourself an unlimited time frame to heal. Don’t expect to be better by a certain date. Let the process work and trust in it. Do you have weird thoughts? (me too)
Think your thoughts are weird? Nah. Everybody has thoughts that make them, erm, uncomfortable. But how much they bother us depends on how we judge them.
People with OCD have “scary” thoughts that give them intense anxiety. However, neurotypical people have the same ones. Without the anxiety. What makes people with OCD different? How they judge the thoughts. In people diagnosed with OCD, the part of the brain that handles emotions doesn’t work right. So when they get a thought about something bad happening to them, they over estimate the meaning of that thought. People with OCD automatically think, “Oh I had a thought of x happening. That must mean it will!” Meanwhile, people without OCD could have the same exact thought, and be able to move on.
Thoughts such as jumping off a high building, swerving your car off the road, and the things mentioned in this video are the types of thoughts I’m talking about. They’re intrusive and not necessarily wanted, but they still come into our brains. Why? Because our brains think! It’s just what they do.
Have you ever said the phrase, “It just came to me!”? Yup, that’s an intrusive thought. Watch today’s video to understand intrusive thoughts, what they’re like.. and how you’re not alone in having them. #OCDWeek
