DEITIES || Animal form Tests V1Â
WELP-- TIME FOR ANOTHER UPDATE WITH DEITIES this time in their animal forms /o/
So yes, the deities in my project have the ability to transform into various forms and states -- much like in the mythology -- and one of their most commonly used forms is of their sacred animal. These animals forms will be relevant to the story, so it gave me a reason to do another round of color tests, to mirror the ones I did of their human-like deity forms from last time.
There are some places where I took liberties with their colors, markings, and features, but I used photo and wall art references to help make those choices. Everything's still open for adjustment and I'll continue practicing them as I progress, but this helps me visualize how they'll appear in the story, and how they compare to their corresponding deity forms. I think most of them are self explanatory, but the captions include some details regarding their animal forms
And if you're wondering about the others (Osiris, Isis, Nephthys), they have animal forms too! But as they mostly appear "human" in story, their animal forms aren't planned to be featured as much, so I'll get to them another day.
Also little heads up! I'm planning on doing a DEITIES themed #Inktober next month, to introduce more deity designs. So if you're interested in following along feel free to check out my twitter!
In the meantime here's my tag for my DEITIES Project if you want to find more art progress o)/ the devART version of these tests with additional sketches is also posted above and HERE!
DEITIES || Character Color Tests V1
GATHER ROUND FRANDS It's time for a game of Egyptian deity roll call +++
Alternatively known as "Teni drops a bunch of character designs for her DEITIES project that she's been working on for months NOW LOOKIT--"
So yeah, all of these are color tests for the 10 major deity characters of the story. I've been sketching and working on each character on and off for… gonna be a year in October (wow), but in the past couple months I've been pushing myself to put them in color, as they will appear in the main story -- which is why Set’s and Horus's hair look a bit different than in the test pages. Anddddd this is the result, though these are just preliminary color tests to better visualize them and see where they all lie in relation to each other. Nothing's quite final, but I'm fairly happy with how they're spread out so far /o/
I'll do more proper introductions of everyone and their roles and relationships in the story another time, and I still plan to focus more attention on each of their full design later (as well as their animal forms too, in a later set), but there's brief info for each of the deities in the captions! You can also find them all compiled together on it’s DA post (with a few additional sketches)!
Also feel free to lemme know if you have a fav deity e 7 e ) in the general mythology or out of these designs /I'm curious~
What lives in the forests surrounding the Home for Traveling Souls? This enigmatic tree-creature, for one. A simple nurturer and keeper of the forest? Or is it as fearsome as it looks?
One of those concepts that kind of kept getting creepier as the design kept refining! He wasn’t supposed to end up quite so monstrous... but I kind of like that.
Behind the scenes of the “Home for Traveling Souls” illustration. Things changed in the final, but the sketches and color comps helped me consider a lot of aspects I normally would not have.
To develop this project, I followed Matt Kohr’s “Designing a House” lesson on the Ctrl+Paint store. It was very inspiring!

“Home for Traveling Souls.” A working title for one of the main locations of my personal project. Where do monsters, spirits, and other supernatural creatures stay on their long, otherworldly travels? They pass through a weathered Victorian-esque inn at the edge of the woods...
DEITIES || Test Pages (OA Live S1 L4 HW)
/wheezes excessivELY IT’S FINISHED. IT’S FINALLY FINISHED AND READY... And for once it’s not fanart or my usual cast of OCs what is this--
Hi guysssss so this is what I’ve been working on for the past month :’) Or well, technically longer than that… if you count the other development stuff I’ve been working on privately before this comic-- BUT since I spent so much energy on these pages, I guess it’s about time to share a bit more than just a few teasers on twitter. SO guess It's time for an introduction…
Deities of Duat -- or DEITIES project as I’ve been calling it in shorthand -- is a visual story I’ve had in the works for a while, stemming from my deep interest in Ancient Egyptian and its mythology. I’ve loved Egyptian mythology since grade school, but more recently I’ve been able to revisit some old ideas and work on developing a full story featuring many of the Egyptian gods and goddesses, and focusing on their dynamics among each other.
The main story for DEITIES is still be developed slowly, but this summer I decided to use the story in my class work for the new visual storytelling course, Oatley Academy Live (which I highly recommend that everyone check out and consider enrolling while it’s still open btw /wink nudge--). Here’s my complete homework for class for one of the lessons; the goal was to complete a test run with a glimpse of your story’s world and characters, depending on your project format -- revealing a “storytelling moment” more or less.
Since I’m aiming for this project to be a comic, I did some test pages with two of the main characters, Set and Horus. It’s some potential dialogue they share during their Contendings, which is the foundation of the backstory for my project.
This comic may not be the exact or final format I want for DEITIES, but I’m happy with it and I learned a LOT from the process of drawing full comic pages again o)7 I’ll explain and share more about this project later, thru twitter and eventually on this blog and DA. Until then, hope you all enjoy the test pages and stay tuned o/ (devART version of the comic is linked above and HERE, and reblogs are also encouraged and appreciated, thank you!!)
school days
Character & Environment piece for OA Live! Felix is either going to school or heading home, I am not sure. Also, this takes place in an alternate Arizona where the light rail system is efficient and painless.
