This year, two of my goals include documenting the world around me in a nature journal and drawing faster. I'm challenging myself to draw in the field every workday during one of two daily 15 minute breaks with the Forest Service. My FS field season begins next week, so I'm practicing this week- can I get out my supplies, draw, and pack up in 15 minutes?! Here's what I managed in the garden today (photography & packing up occurred after the timer rang 😥): quick notes and sketches of Chenopodium sp., lamb's quarters. These annuals are either C. album or C. berlandieri (mature seeds would be needed for a conclusive ID), two weedy species introduced from Europe. They love to come up in our warm, rich garden soil before proliferating in the yard later in the warm season; I love to pick them and eat their greens before they have a chance to fruit! What's better than a snack and a sketch on a beautiful spring day? . . . I've created a couple of hashtags to keep track of this and related projects: #BEBjournal15s & #BEBjournal in the style of @laragastinger's # lgperpetualjournal. #Amaranthaceae #Chenopodium #lambsquarters #arizona #invasiveplants #nonnativeplants #botanize #botany #plants #nature #ecology #sketching #naturejournal #sketchjournal #garden
