(this is not a theory, it’s me explaining how I relate to Ralsei as a multigender person)
Many reasons for the very popular trans girl Ralsei headcanon still apply. Them wearing a dress and talking about being a princess, their struggle with finding an identity and breaking away from the strict roles set by the prophecy, and him being referred to with they/them pronouns in their title description thingy (idk what it’s called)
However, I feel like it is ambiguous whether Ralsei is a binary trans person or not. His story is definitely very easily read trans allegory, and I feel like reading Ralsei as nonbinary elevates it somewhat (on a personal level, for me).
I thought I was a binary boy for so long, because I felt like being perceived as a girl took away from my masculinity. Limiting myself to only being only a boy felt stifling, but being only a girl felt more stifling, so I picked the lesser of two bad options. I felt trapped in the gender binary, and in society’s view of gender roles as a whole. When I finally realized I’m multigender, it was extremely freeing. I relate to Ralsei on this level; being stuck following a strict set of imposed rules and not being able to deviate from it.
Also, this part of the Tenna figurine ad caught my attention (I’m aware that it’s not canon but it feels important enough to mention anyway)
The Tenna figurine is a gift for girls AND boys. Ralsei is BOTH of them. I’m definitely reading too much into this but I’m adding it anyway because why not??
I also love the trans girl Ralsei headcanon/theory, and I definitely don’t believe my interpretation is correct or better than any others. I just relate so heavily to Ralsei for so many reasons, and my relationship with gender is a big one!!

Dang, I wonder what it's like growing up with a Prophecy, that there are specific people that fit specific roles, and you're told this is the most important thing in the world -- to fill your role as prophesied.
And then you slowly come into contact with more people, and learn who you really are, and the more you do the more you realize that the whole idea of Prophesied Roles sucks, and is hurting not just you but everyone you care about. And you start to wonder if you need to fit any of these roles at all.
i feel like ralsei is 100% trans in some way. i dont necessarily believe in transfem ralsei specifically (though no hate to the theory and i will be very happy for her if it becomes canon) but just like. they are definetly not cis.
if i had to pick a specific identity i really like bigender and genderfluid ralsei. but honestly with the current state of canon it feels like basically anything is on the table!
i just think Ralsei should get to do whatever he wants forever

it's like 6 in the morning and my brain has kept me up all night thinking about random deltarune theories so i need to write something down somewhere to nobody in particular or else i will explode
mild warning that whatever i write below will probably most likely not be proofread at all and is likely to just be mindless/baseless ramblings, and also spoilers ahead
(it's about the trans ralsei theory, i love it and REALLY want to support it but i also have one or two conflicting thoughts about it for whatever reason, my brain is prolly wired wrong because it should be so fucking obvious that he/they're/she's trans but my brain throws 'what if's' in)
so like, deltarune chapter 5. my playthrough was just the normal (pacifist?? idk) one so i'll just pick and choose what moments i remember
we start with ralsei tumbling out of a wardrobe/fancy closet in the new dark world. how subtle, toby
i think he uses he throughout most of the chapter, with a few questionable moments you can find like ralsei wearing a dress in the climbing thingamathing in castle town, but normal ralsei stuff
and then we hit the scene with ralsei and flowery alone. ralsei is praying for everyone else (probably not for himself, knowing him) and flowery 'barges' in, i vaguely remember that flowery probably tries to guide him away from the prophecy/religious stuff and i think also tries to guide him towards being his own person before giving him free drink vouchers
speaking of the drink vouchers, they're blue and pink. hm. sure, they could mean anything, they could also symbolize kris and susie, but i also find it interesting that it's the one ralsei had been keeping an eye on as many other people have probably pointed out
you know what else had pink and blue. the garden of hopes and dreams had quite a bit of it. also had some white mixed in there. prolly nothing i'm just pulling shit out of my ass
flowery also calls ralsei a 'princess' afterwards, which could just be him teasing/messing with ralsei but might also be something genuine
skipping towards the end, there's also the various times flowery calls ralsei and the rest of the fun gang out, along with flowery retaliating when ralsei says that he's pretending to be something that he's not
and then, after flowery's boss fight, not only does asgore refer to ralsei with they/them (which could also be him just being polite, i don't like to assume either so i get it), but the POWER section of the menu also refers to ralsei with they/them instead of he/him or calling them a prince
so yeah. there's definitely something up with ralsei. they aren't even referred to with they/them at ANY OTHER POINT IN THE PAST (as far as i'm aware), so it's likely to be quite important. also if you read this far i'm very thankful and also very sorry for the nonsense i'm about to say
ralsei could very much be transgender. they've always expressed feminine interests from time to time, even flat out saying "i've never been a princess before" at some point, but then i start to think
what if they're nonbinary? i have, like, ZERO evidence for this, i just always have this thought in my head that, if they were nonbinary, that'd technically just... work? maybe? it goes against the fact that the prophecy expects a prince, but also goes against it in another way by going completely against the binary that it expects. i also feel like ralsei has always been a little inbetween the lines when it comes to gender, so that's been a leading factor in my head
but hey. highly likely they're trans. less likely they're nonbinary. heck, ralsei could even be genderqueer or something else and i wouldn't mind. i'm just happy if this goat figures out who they are, whatever they may be. i want a happy ending for these characters no matter what and i love ralsei for the character that they are. ralsei could even come out as a horse and i'd support the little guy... they... girl... whatever.
i'd be surprised if anyone actually read this to the end but like i also wanna hear everyone's thoughts on stuff like this. i wanna know if there's anything i missed or better ways i could've looked at things, i dunno. i'm still new to this whole writing thing and i hope my thoughts came through well enough. i also hope this doesn't come off as like, propaganda for my own ideas or anything.

Oh hey! I remember you! Seems you guys have had so much support for Trans Ralsei this chapter, I was really glad to see it! I think it's amazing that this reading of Ralsei's character has received a lot more overt support from the game itself, and even a little they/them stuff too!
For my part, while I do now believe that the trans reading is entirely intentional on the developers' part, what will ultimately sway it for me will be the moment Ralsei claims that identity for him/her/themself, or if Toby pulls a Gooseworks and confirms it canon after the fact. I'm 100% for folks pronouning Ralsei any way they want before then, but my feeling is the moment will have far more impact when the character comes to a determination and definitively states it out loud. At that point, I will happily use whichever pronouns Ralsei wants used, but until then I will continue to use he/him for now.
though I will admit I do have a particular soft spot for genderfluid Ralsei interpretations... we'll have to see what happens!
I think Tenna sometimes calls Kris, Susie, or Ralsei child. Something he picked up from Asgore and Toriel. This relates to the weird route fic I’m working on. Tenna calls Ralsei child as a term of endearment. If you want the funnier option, he calls Ralsei kid. If you’re wondering why that’s funnier, look up what a baby goat is called.
Also, I see a lot of transfem Ralsei, which I’ve been converted to believing post chapter 5. However, have we considered enby Ralsei?
