Historically Kennyo and Shingen are brothers-in-law.

Hongan-ji's monastic order doesn’t forbid marriage for the monks, so Kennyo is married to Shingen’s sister. 

I’ve always wanted them to meet in-game, but it hasn’t happened yet (I think?). Unless it happened in the epilogue, then I wouldn’t know. I never buy Shingen’s epilogue.

It was a shame he died in the game. When Hide’s in power he got the Ikko-ikki to HELP Hide, and so Hide allowed a new Hongan-ji to be built (you can still visit that now in Kyoto). THAT TIME WHEN HE APPEARED IN AKECHI’S SEQUEL, HIDE INVITED HIM WITHOUT WARNING AND THEY WERE LIKE 

Hide: “Presenting our wonderful guest! The one and only Kennyo!!” Kennyo: “Yeeeaaahh!! It is I, the great Kennyo!”

I heard using -han instead of -san is a Kansaiben thing. And plus Kennyo is from Osaka too. When he was still in control, his Hongan-ji is in the place where Osaka Castle.
