Honestly, I don't want the remake to happen. As I said before, we already have an amazing movie, and I don't think it's gotten old. Also, I don't know how they're going to make it more accurate to the book when, in 1999, Mary Harron had to cut a lot of material from the screenplay because it was so explicit. I think censorship rules are even stricter nowadays if you want your movie to be shown in theaters, but I'm not sure. Also, the original movie was filmed in 1999, which is technically closer to 1987. Now, it's 2025, so maybe the movie would look better with modern filming technologies. However, American Psycho is not a superhero movie like those made by Marvel. The aesthetic of the 2000 movie is unique, with its dark and mysterious vibe.

On the other hand, the remake (new book adaptation, call it what you will; I don't care) can and will bring a new audience to the fandom. This is a good thing for the fandom and for American Psycho as a work of media. Nevertheless, I don't know how modern society, especially the younger generation, will interpret the main idea of American Psycho.

Regarding casting: I still think Austin Butler is miscast for the lead role. I'd watch the remake if they recast Christian Bale, LOL. Of course, that won't happen, and whoever is chosen to play Patrick Bateman will be compared to Bale. I can't say with 100% certainty that nobody can top Bale, but I hope it will be at least good enough. I don't know. For me, Bale's Patrick will always be number one. Ten years later, thirty years later.

The problem with remaking cult movies like American Psycho is recreating the atmosphere of the time, culture, and vibe when it was filmed. As I said, the 2000 movie is absolutely perfect for me, but I won't judge those who love the remake if one is made. Lionsgate just needs to focus on creating something new. They should adopt new books or something. But yeah, they want to ride the media hype train of existing fandoms. Bret Easton Ellis has written several other interesting books besides American Psycho, but Lionsgate, like most studios, wants to capitalize on existing franchises. I don't support it, but who cares?

I agree with you about Dune, but it's the kind of movie where modern graphic technology can change everything. That's not to say that a good plot and story aren't important. Still, there are people who prefer the original movie. Also, if Lionsgate wants to capitalize on the hype, they're already late, as the peak of the modern hype era for American Psycho was in 2022–2023. Sumerian Comics dropped the comic book in 2023, and it ended up being rushed and messy because they seemed to be in a hurry, you know what I mean?

Overall, I didn't see people asking for American Psycho to be remade. I've seen people who aren't against the idea of a new book adaptation, but I haven't seen people clamoring for a new movie. But that's just my opinion, based on my experience.
