There was only one day a week, two if you were lucky, where the sun was up before you. Today was not one of those days.
The alarm blaring on your bedside table only rang twice before your boyfriend reached over and aggressively fumbled with it before it turned off.
āI hate that damn thing,ā Cole mumbled from his position half on top of you.
āIt goes off every morning,ā you said through a yawn.
āAnd every morning it makes me want to cry.ā
Rolling your eyes you began to sit up despite your boyfriendās childish protests. Stretching out your back and scratching your nails against his scalp you leaned over and pulled back the blinds.Ā
The early rays ofĀ dawn spilled into your room causing Cole to let out an annoyed groan and bury his face into the pillows.
āCome on,ā you patted his back, āup and at āem princess.ā
You rose from the soft comfort of your bed and delicious warmth emanating from your boyfriend. The early morning air made you want to ignore your duties and jump straight back into Coleās warm embrace. But you had a job to do. You both did.
āYou know what Wu always says,ā you prompted, staring at your sleepy boyfriend through the bathroom mirror.
āāEvil doesnāt sleep and neither should we,āā he sighed, finally sitting up with a yawn of his own. āI know.ā
You nodded approvingly at him while lathering your toothbrush with minty toothpaste.Ā
Coleās large presence soon invaded the space next to you as he ran a washcloth under the warm water of the faucet.Ā
Over the years of both dating and fighting as teammates, the two of you had learned to work together as a well oiled machine. Bathroom routines included.Ā
Youād toss him his deodorant while he slid your bottle of perfume towards you, gliding effortlessly around each other to avoid collision, and by now, you two had mastered the art of sharing the sink.
Afterward, you tossed him a compression shirt and basketball shorts while he returned the favor by lying out an athletic set for you on the bed.Ā
Sure, you had your own room, but after a while you learned to keep some clothes in Coleās room and vice versa. There was a small portion of his closet reserved for your own clothes, as well as the bottom right drawer of his dresser.
The two of you followed the smell of breakfast all the way to the dining room, dragging Cole behind you as he was more of a slow riser.
Surprisingly, you werenāt the last ones ready. Kai was still absent from the table as Zane continued to stir delicious smelling food items in a pan.Ā
āMorning,ā you greeted softly, knowing nobody but Jay was super talkative before breakfast.
There was a small wave of morning greetings as you and Cole took your respective seats, and Nya yawned stiffly before leaning her head on your shoulder with a tired grumble.
āCoffee?ā Cole mumbled from your other side as Zane set down the last portion of food.
āOne creamāā
āOne cream two sugars,ā Cole finished, flashing you a knowing grin. āI know.ā
You pressed a quick peck to his temple before he vacated the table.
āWhereās Kai?ā Jay huffed.
Unfortunately, one of the monastery rules included waiting for everyone to be present for meals in order to start eating. Unless of course there was word someone would not be attending. However, Kai just took forever getting himself together.
āRight here asshole,ā Kai said, suddenly dropping into the seat next to Jay, making the copper haired boy jump five feet out of his skin.
At that moment, Cole had returnedājoining in the laughter at his friendāsetting down a steaming cup of coffee in your favorite mug the two of you had bought together.
āThank you.ā You smiled up at him as he started making a plate for you.
āAnytime, gorgeous.ā
āUgh,ā Lloyd groaned. āQuit being sappy at the table.ā
You glared and threw a potato at him. Lloyd shot you a look before popping it in his mouth and chewing slowly, as if youād done him a favor by throwing it at him.
You chuckled and rolled your eyes at his childish antics while placing two pieces of bacon on Cole's plate.
You knew Coleās eating habits like the back of your hand, which proved useful when multiple plates and bowls of food were being passed around. You could add to both yours and his plate as he did the same before passing it along.
As usual, by the time half the food on everyoneās plates was gone, the joking and conversations started. There were questions about who would play music (Cole), who their patrol partners would be (same as the day before), and about what harsh maneuvers Wu would put you through today. No one had an answer for that last one.
Right after dishes, the seven of you made your way to the courtyard for training. It started with Wu leading you through stretches followed by some more defensive combat before he released you for free training.
Kai and Jay opted for sparring while Nya was demonstrating her push and pull movements with water for Lloyd as Zane occasionally froze the streams.
āSo, balance practice?ā you asked Cole, a sugary sweet smile playing on your lips.
Cole tipped his head back with a groan as you fought back a laugh.Ā
āFine,ā he huffed.
That was how the two of you ended up upside down on one hand propped up by a thin wooden pole. Occasionally, you two would switch hands. Cole always hated this exercise because it made the blood rush to his head, however you found it calming.
After your twenty minutesāten on each handāyour feet finally returned to the ground.
Cole rolled out his stiff shoulders before casting a look at the weight station.
You followed his gaze, your muscles screamed with protest at the thought, and then you caught Coleās lifted brows and already knew what he was suggesting.
āFine,ā you parroted your own boyfriendās words back at him as he happily led you to the pull up bar.
One of the main reasons you hated doing weights with him was because heās too damn good at it and it annoyed you to no end. So while your muscles were protesting with every movement, Cole hadnāt stopped once, nor even slowed.
Eventually you gave up, getting to an impressive amount, but in the end you all but fell off the bar, arms feeling like limp noodles.
Cole laughed a little breathily at you before finishing off his set and hopping off. He crouched down to where youāve collapsed at his feet.Ā
āWanna lay on my back while I do push ups?ā he asked.
You nodded pathetically, letting Cole lift you up from the ground while he got into position. You all but fell onto his back, the soothing motions of his rhythmic ups and downs almost lulling you to sleep.
Needless to say, you were not at all devastated when your training hours were up. Overall, you had worked up a good sweat, especially when you sparred with Zane near the end.
Thankfully, there were a few hours of nothing, meaning you and your freshly showered teammates could rot on the couch and pretend to watch TV before the gis came on.
āDoes this sound too desperate?ā Kaiās phone invaded you and Coleās vision from his spot on the floor beneath the two of youāyou were practically one as you laid half asleep on top of your also half asleep boyfriend.
Peeking your eyes open from their half-shut position, Cole grumbled, the sound vibrating his chest you were propped up on.
The two of you leaned closer to the screen to see it was a text Kai had drafted to Sky asking her to hang out.
From what you read, he came off pretty normal which was out of character for Kai. Especially when it involved Skylor.
āLooks great,ā Cole mumbled sleepily, wrapping his arms around you and dragging your body closer to his.
āYeah, Iām impressed.ā You smiled, āUsually youāre the king of desperation.ā
āI know this time I triedāā Kai cut himself off quickly. āWhaāHey I am not!ā
A snort came from the other couch where Lloyd sat, comic book curled up in his lap. āYeah, okay.ā
Kai glared at him though the younger boy didnāt seem to notice Kaiās heated look.
The hours came and went too fast for you liking, but after a quick cat nap curled up with Cole on the couch you were high strung and ready for patrol.Ā
As luck would have it, this week your patrol partner was Cole. Honestly, the two of you worked well together, and you had long proven to Wu that you understood the difference between a date and patrol.
The two of you summoned your dragons and circled the Eastern part of the city, the police radio silent for your area so far.
After a stretch of nothing, you suggested going down to the rooftops.
You landed on top of an apartment, waiting for Cole before you darted off, jumping from roof to roof, playing a low stakes game of āCatch Me If You Canā.
Cole caught you. He usually did, but mostly because neither of you were trying all that hard.
āIf you had to pick,ā you started, the two of you taking refuge on a building as you walked on the edge as if it were a tightrope, āwhich element would you want if you werenāt earth?ā
Cole cocked his head in thought, hoods long forgotten as he chewed on a sandwich you guys picked up from your favorite spot on the Eastern Side. You even ran into some fans and made time for a quick selfie before heading back to your duties.
āIce,ā Cole decided with a nod, taking another bite.
āInteresting,ā you mused, bending forward to walk on your hands instead. āWhyās that?ā
āWould you quit, youāre giving me anxiety.ā Cole gestured to your position but after a roll of your eyes he continued. āIce is just like earth but frozen.ā
āPretty sure ice is just like water but frozen,ā you corrected.
"Smart ass." Cole chuckled. āThatās not what I mean.ā
āExplain.ā
āI mean itās solid, like earth is,ā he elaborated through the last bite of sandwich. āLike the only difference between a boulder and a large slab of ice is that one of them can melt. Theyāre both tough as hell.ā
āLike you?ā
āObviousy.ā
āRight.ā You cartwheeled back to your feet. āSo you wouldnāt go for something completely different? Youād want to stay with something relatively the same?ā
Cole nodded. āI think I would catch on quicker than if I pickedā¦air for example. What the hell am I supposed to do with that?ā He pulled a face. āItās not solid, you canāt throw it at people. Iād be totallyāā
āOut of your element?ā You finished, with a wag of your eyebrows.
āUm, have you looked around? Itās literally everywhere, and hello, weāre surrounded by it. Thereās just so many possibilities.ā You couldnāt lie, youād given this a lot of thought and truly if you had to switch youād switch with Nya.
āFair enough,ā Cole nodded. āThatās pretty different from your own.ā
āI get to learn something new, then maybe I can see if thereās overlap.ā You said, referring to your own ability.
Before you could continue your hypothetical situation the radio line beeped.
āNearby units we have a stolen truck going down 98th heading towards the docksāā
You and Cole summoned your dragons as soon the dispatch mentioned the address.Ā
By the time all of you had returned from a mostly tame patrol on your endāsome low class thugs, cats in a tree, and drug dealsāyou could already smell something cooking.
The seven of you all but floated through the air at the smell, discovering Misako at the stove practically done with dinner.
Without turning her back she said, āGo wash up. Dinner will be ready in twentyā as if she knew there were seven pairs of eyes boring into her back.
Footsteps scampering towards the nearest bathroom for another shower and fresh pair of clothes echoed through the otherwise silent halls of the monastery.
Dinners at the monastery were immensely different from breakfasts. More chatter, more joking, food throwing, and even arm wrestling occurred during dinner.Ā
Coleās warm hand made its home on your thigh over your pajama pants. He squeezed gently, though he was in a heated conversation with Jay about who was better as Super Smash Bros.
Your hand laid on top of his thumb running across the back of his hand as you listened to Kai rant about his date with Skylor. Well, at least he thought it was a date.
As you scooped food into your mouth, you felt nothing but content, grateful you were surrounded by people who loved you, would do anything for you.

Did you know? That one of the unexpected benefits to being reborn, with your memories intact, is that you carry your first life's cultural taboos with you? All your knowledge, all your superstitions, every horror movie you've ever so much as glanced at. Like a dowry, brought with you, into this, your new life.
You end up not giving as much weight, to local superstitions. Especially the ones you know are not true. How? Well, sometimes? In the mad, random, overwhelming blur of the Cosmos? You end up in a Reality that to YOU? Was once fiction. Living in a snapshot of that world's history, as it plays out. Just as it was prophesied.
It's kinda disorienting. But? You get used to it.
Though you DO have to make a choice. Quickly. And decide where in that prophecy you want to stand. After all... there are many ways it could go. It WAS a "game". A story of romance. That other's lives would be impacted? That nations might rise or fall? That people could and will DIE? Oh, that is irrelevant! Isn't it?
They are young.
In LOVE.
Obviously, I could not risk my life on such irresponsible grounds. Plant my flag and swear loyalty, to such fickle hearts. I would die. They would get me killed, for their love story. No... No, what I needed? Was something stable. Selfish. Someone who would claim, but would KEEP.
I needed someone who rewarded loyalty. Someone who praised cleverness. Protected his own. Had (and would again) kill any who set untoward eyes upon those who served him. Someone guaranteed to survive until the end. Machiavellian, scheming. A soft and twisting word. Whispered kindly, in so many, many ears.
The power behind whichever throne he chooses.
Most Senior Royal Advisor, Iwamoto Nobutoshi. My boss. Or, really, Master I guess. Boss was for gangsters. Which was still weird for me. Part of me still twitched violently, every time I said the word "master". My brain insisting, it was either a sex thing or a slavery thing, and that I should respond with Immediate Violence at being told to call anyone that.
Yeah... there ARE downsides to keeping your memories. It really is a mixed bag, all told.
But, hey! All those horror movies I've seen in passing? Scary Horror-Terror Stuff I've absorbed through cultural osmosis? Has been really coming in handy, not gonna lie. So has my understanding of what constitutes "psychological warfare" and "mindfuck-y, liminal, torment".
It should NOT be as cathartic as it is? But... not gonna lie. I've gotten weirdly GOOD at this. Learned to become one with the shadows. Sneak into and out of places, I rightfully should not BE. Usually with a bucket of animal blood from a butcher's. Occasionally, if I KNOW they have someone who can test it? I get the bucket from the morgue.
Which? Is gross as FUCK. And disrespectful. But I have to believe they'd be totally down for fucking with some Evil Rich Assholes. Plus I donate funds to their family's anonymously. So I like to think it balances out? Still don't like to do it, though. I feel like the longer I've been here, the more my morals have chipped away...
Where was I? Right! Tonight's "art"!
I forget where that quote was from, exactly? But? It was true. People do not look up nearly enough. Worse yet, most manors around here? Had attics and weird pockets in their ceilings, with easy access to the floors below. I had? Gotten past? SO many patrols this way. So, SO many.
Frankly, an ALARMING number of patrols.
I'd taken to putting traps in the ceiling, back home.
What I was aiming for, here, was the private rooms. Not the hallway outside the private rooms, oh no, those would be patrolled to hell and back. But inside. Plus? It would have that added, spicy, "we can get you where you sleep" fear factor. And? Having their oh so TRUSTED, highly trained gaurds? See NOTHING? Perfect~
Cause? We? Were doing a good ol fashioned "Sins of The Past" Haunting!
The trick, if you don't actually have any good oppo-research available? Is to be vague, yet aim for things you do know about them. Let them fill in the blanks. Such as? The VERY convenient deaths of Lord Jackass's other brothers, which cleared HIS way towards power. There's no PROOF of any wrong doing... but~? Guilty hearts DO tend to tell on themselves~!
Slinking down the rope ladder silently, into the frankly hideously overdecorated room. I got to work. On silent feet, I began to set the stage. Furniture, lifted and silently stacked, around the snoring Lord and his equally unconscious wife. Expensive pottery, covered in a thick and padded bag, before it is struck.
As though some silent blast of power had gone off. Each piece, placed right back where it had been, now broken, on the floor. Next? The most time consuming, but subtle, one. Also the one that would spread farthest as gossip. Using a custom made seam ripper, tear out the eyes of every example of his family's crest on his clothes. On his bedding.
Yes, ALSO on the robe he wore to bed. That one takes very gentle movement. Very nerve-wracking, not gonna lie. You gotta go slow. Once you DO? Good ol "tears of blood." Just paint it right on the cloth, let it stain. As though the crests were weeping.
THEN, you paint the room in nicely vague horror movie script.
"Brother. Why?" "We know. We know EVERYTHING. How could you?" "We are tired of waiting, join us. Join us Brother." "We are witness, a shame upon our blood."
And other such gems! Plus the good ol hands scrambling, covered in blood, to a point in the center of the room. Put a round painters cloth down, and~? Gently sift ash and bone dust (I dried up bones from the kitchens, then ground um! Also great for gardening.) over the floor. Step UP, to my ladder, kit away, grab the cloth, and? Off we go!
Room successfully haunted.
Couldn't happen to a nicer asshole, really. Is it a BIT much? Yeah, probably. People lose their SHIT. I apparently have "a talent", according to my teammates. Which is nonsense. It's all B-grade horror move nonsense and house of horrors gross outs. Visceral ick. But it's NEW here, so I guess that counts? Even if I am plagiarizing the FUCK out of somebody.
Thankfully, though, dispite my "talent"? Master Iwa- ...No, wait, didn't he tell me recently to call him by his name? Uncomfy. A good sign, obviously, but... uncomfy. Don't Like that he knows who I am. I was aiming for, you know, mid rank? Not disposable but pretty forgetable? But now I have a Useful Skill. Have proven to be INTELLIGENT.
Fuck, I even made the mistake of cleaning up and organizing PAPERWORK. You know, paperwork? A thing you would have to READ and MAKE SENSE OFF, to be able to organize? Have to create some kind of workable and efficient system, by WHICH to sort? I thought it was an assistants! Not HIS!
One fuck up is all it takes.
He will find you, he WILL rip the secrets out of you, and yes! He WILL smile pleasantly the entire fucking time! It's horrifying! Kinda cool! I'm pretty sure my life flashed before my eyes! Ha ha... Holy SHIT.
Right, where...? Right! My "talent"! Master Nobutoshi? Big on "right piece for the right purpose". Yeah, you could FORCE people to go against their ideals, their beliefs, their very nature... but you can only do so, for so long. Fear fades. Pain can be overcome. Not everyone fears death.
He regards it as foolish, inefficient, to drag and force and scream.
No, no! He? Oh, he merely... suggests. A softly spoken recommendation. A guiding hand, to show you, the best use of your skills. And if that guidance just so happens to serve his interests? Well... what a wonderful coincidence~ How fortuitous.
Heavy hands get broken. Snapped at and slapped away. But a gentle touch? A little nudge? Sweet whispers in your ear? That tell you what you want to hear? Guide you where HE wants you to be? Well, THAT is so much harder to notice, isn't it. So, SO much harder to fight.
I chose pretty well, I like to think. Because no matter the game? He'll come out on top. Probably laugh, as all the other players, dance to his tune. Who WOULDN'T want to be on his team? His team wins.
And winning? Means I survive.
Dropping off my kit in the shed at the back of the Iwamoto guest residence gardens (where, should it be found, the presence of such things could be blamed on unscrupulous guests), I trudge back towards the servants quarters. I'm tired and filthy. It's the kind of late? Where it's flipped right around to become early.
Luckily, me and my teammates plan ahead, so there is a still moderately warm bath waiting for me. God bless Aiko and all she stands for. For this? I'll even carry her back to our room. Since, once again, she's decided "fuck it" and just curled up on the stack of towels. Doesn't even fit. She just shoved her upper body in the cubby and called it good.
I snort and step over her. Get my fuckin bath. Late night shifts are the worst. But we all take um. I focus on getting clean, grabbing my passed out lump of a roommate, and heading to bed. Fucker drools on me. Snorkels right in my ear. Takashi laughs silently as we pass him, hold the door for me. Seems to be heading out as we head in.
Master Iwamoto's shadow network never truely sleeps, after all.
Always someone doing something.
Dumping us both in our beds, I greatfully pass out. Do not dream. Greet near mid-day as my dawn, ready to start it all over again. Up, a quick bath, dressed and ready to go. Nothing to seem here but us identical servants. We go in shifts. All the better to be as disorienting as possible, to outsiders.
Everyone who looks like each other? Grouped on a shift. Taught to use make up to make themselves even MORE indistinguishable. We pick someone about in the middle, appearance wise, of each group, as the Standard. Everyone is to copy them. For my group, it's me.
I pick up the whispers and news, that have been collected since this mornings report. Second one of the day. At least, second one when we're not on "war" footing. As I walk, I glance down. Technically not supposed to read these, but I'm fairly sure he knows I do at least read the top page. Is amused by it. I'd have seen punishment otherwise. Or removed from delivery.
Oooh~ lookie THERE! How SCARY~ā! It appears someone was HAUNTED last night! By the ghosts of their dead brothers, you say? Angry ancestors, you say? Wife hysterical? Fled to her parents house? Sister, in tears, before the king? Oh my, oh my~!
I struggle not to grin. That would give the game away. Me? Reading something I'm not supposed too? I would NEVER. He he he~
Casually weaving through other servants, I keep reading. Climbing stairs and ducking down halls. Huh. Wait a second... slowing, I step to the side of the covered walkway. Re-read that last paragraph. Near the end of the page? Is something... strange. Not right.
I REMEMBER the Plot.
Made SURE I would remember. Wrote it down, then again and again. Memorized it, like my life literally depended on it, while it was still somewhat fresh in my mind. Because, frankly, it DID depend on it. Even now? Decades later? I can recite it by rote.
So why? Pray tell? Did our blushing Protagonist? Have a BROTHER.
Furthermore, why the FUCK have I not NOTICED this before?
Glancing around, I see far too many watchful eyes, to properly investigate. So I straighten. Pleasant, vague, expression in place. I walk forward. In no hurry at all. Definitely going to deliver these papers. Certainly not delaying in the slightest. Nothing to see here, everyone! Go about, what you were. We are all friends here, RIGHT?
I step into the building at the far end of the covered pathway. Resist diving into the first room available. That? Would be too predictable. I go for the THIRD. One quick grab, slide, and side-step? And~? Poof! Like I was never there. Servant? WHAT servant? These halls are EMPTY. You're clearly seeing things... are you okay?
Immediately, I lift the reports. Well, immediate after a look around the room, of course. Don't want to get CAUGHT. Flipping to the second page, I start reading. What's this about a Brother? What BROTHER?! There IS no BROTHER!
....except there IS.
Somehow.
And HE? Is a very, VERY clever man. One who lived quietly. Like a ghost. After the failed assassination attempt that nearly killed him and his mother. Wait a- ...failed? That sounds...? Familiar.
I have to close my eyes and think, to remember. Lean my head back and let my brain churn. It's... obscure. A tiny detail, mentioned offhand. Single line of dialog, in only one of the routes. Not even the MAIN routes. But one of the Secret ones, that you have to unlock... in the... collectors? Edition? I think? There was that play through video, right? We were eating... a noodle dish of some kind...
Fuck, I can't remember it. Not fully.
But I remember ENOUGH.
I REMEMBER? That it WASN'T a FAILED attempt. That Protagonist-chan's family didn't talk about them. For vaguely plot relevant reason. There was healing and good vibes. Follow your dreams, kids. Buy now. Etc etc...
Looking up from the reports, I stare blankly into space. Is... is the Protagonist's brother... ALSO a Reincarnator? What do I do with that? Do I contact him? Say "hello"? "I'm here too"? I thought I was... was completely alone in this world. But of all the places he could BE. Smack dap RIGHT in the middle of all the action?! Holy SHIT.
I'm going to have to think about this. A LOT.
Correcting the reports, I step back into the hallways. Casual as you please. Continue on my way, even as my mind churns and churns. Why is he gathering allies? Why hide for so long? Is he counting on his sister's plot armor to carry over? Or does he have actual military training? He's amassing loyalists. For WHAT?
And the reports said he's searching for something. Seem to suggest that WE are keeping it AWAY from him. What are we hiding? Protecting?
People? Resources? A mine?
I reached Master Nobutoshi's study, in his private wing. The halls quite, as only the most elite and trusted servants were allowed to travel here. Kneeling, I knocked on the door frame, waited to be acknowledged.
Receiving an almost absent-minded acknowledgement, I slide open the door.
Framed by delicately painted screen and thickly stuffed book shelves, Iwamoto Nobutoshi was, as always, the very picture of an elite scholar. Beautiful and refined. Slow and deliberate in movements, as though each had been pondered and found acceptable. I had never met a man more graceful. Not in this life, not in the last.
To my right, the sliding door to the gardens were open. Giving a picturesque view of summer, as it faded into fall. To the left, painted screens. Done by some Master's hand. With a splendid level of detail that still caught me off gaurd, even now. There were birds, in those painted trees! Had there always been? I wished I could look closer.
Nonetheless, I respectfully offered the reports for perusal.
"Right on time. This One had begun to worry." He said as he set aside his brush, smile mild as ever, even as his eyes swiftly cataloged each new discrepancy. There were several. "Bruises. Did the new padding in your suit, not sufficiently protect? This One will be most displeased if we have been lied too. We were promised it would."
No, and that was the thing, wasn't it? My kit? Had never been better. But... I had been damn near ambushed on my way TOO my job. Had to take evasive maneuvers. Do a LOT more parkour then I was comfortable with. Those fuckers had been... persistent. Weirdly so. Which made no sense, since they didn't seem affiliated with anyone I recognized.
"Oh?" The question was less a question and more a flat note of outrage. He held a hand out for the reports, began to read. "How... interesting. They certainly seem to be getting bold. This One begins to wonder. If he has perhaps been too kind, that they would see fit to harrass his-"
An ominous silence fills the room as he cuts off mid-sentence, as his eyes find something on the page he's reading. He has gone utterly still. The gentle curl of smoke from his pipe, wafting around him like the warning trails of a dragon. The deadly hidden embers of a forest fire, flaring up. His pleasant smile had frozen upon his face. Like a mask.
"He certainly does love to push his luck, does he? Make demands, for things he has no right too. Things which are ours." The words weren't even so much addressed to me? As the were a hissed accusation, towards the report in his hand. Someone, somewhere, seemed REALLY dead set on pissing Master Nobutoshi off.
Honestly? That seemed really unwise, but it's their funeral... I guess...?
Master Nobutoshi turns so suddenly I only barely avoid flinching. Jumping like a newbie. He's doing that "pick you apart at the seems" stare again. Looking into my soul. I remain politely deferential, patient, as I wait for him to work through his thoughts. He rises from his desk. Elegant and prowling, as he stalks towards me. Gaze intense, fixated. I... I am missing something.
"Tell me, my loyal little shadow. What would you do? If some... upstart, dared begin to covet, that which was yours? Started panting after your dearly beloved trusted, like a filthy dog? Trying to steal them away? Would you take that? Tolerate such disrespect? I... This One... can not imagine you would."
"You are so very loyal. So diligent. You serve me not for fame or glory, power nor wealth. You ask for so little, offer so much. I would give the world to you. My precious, loyal, little shadow. Forever by my side. No doubt, we shall grow old together. That they would covet you? The audacity is unthinkable."
Soft yet warrior calloused hands, come up to cup my cheeks. And... ah. Yeah. T-That's pretty fucking CLEAR on what I'm missing. My boss? Has a thing for me? Crush? Or... or is it "is in love with"? W-what was that about people coveting?! Hold on! Roll things back a second! What's happening?! I never thought I was blind... about apparently I need a stick and some GLASSES.
Because there is "missed some subtext" and then there's "dude, how do you miss the silent war with guerrilla tactics, right fucking IN FRONT OF YOU?!", so like? Either I was being DELIBERATELY kept seperate? Or... actually? No. That actually sound exactly like what probably happened. An information diet.
FUCK.
Before I could decide how, exactly, I felt about that? The same door I had entered through, opened again. This time sharply and with an audible snap. Dragging urgently along it's tracks and hitting its end, in a way the delicate crafting had never been meant for. I swear it nearly cracked. Alarmed, I spun, breaking free of Master Nobutoshi's hold on my face, to face whoever was at the door.
Aiko.
Shouldn't she be near the front gates? "Sweeping" and listening to gossip for the Shadows? How. Why!? My eyes catch on slowly spreading red. Stark against her... our uniform, she's hurt. Badly. Gripping her side and the door frame like it's the only thing still holding her up. Her face ashy pale and sweating with terrible pain. Eyes determined. Her jaw set in that stubborn, stubborn grit.
"Master. You need to leave. Now! They...!" She wavers, starting to blackout from the pain, before forcing it back. "They've attacked! We're holding them back. A-As best as we c..can! Please! Lord Iwamoto, I BEG you! You must go! If you don't survive this, then everything is lost!"
As if to underline the terrible wait of her words, an explosion goes off, shaking the austere foundations of the ancient house in which I serve. My mind immediately flits and races along the emergency protocols. W-was that one of ours? Did we..? No. No, we would have... DID set up barricades. This is our house. We've already trapped it.
They are the ones who brought explosives.
You don't bring things like those, if you plan to leave survivors. You bring those? When you plan to make EXAMPLES. Aiko is right. We have to go. Now. Heart hurting, I nod to my roommate, one of my best friends, and know that this is it. I will likely never see her again, alive. There are... so many goodbyes, words, I wish I had time to say.
In the look she shoots me? I see the same.
We knew this might come.
Just... just hoped it never would.
My boss's crush can wait. His LIFE is more important. I turn and reach for him, to guide him towards the screens, leading deeper into his wing. Get to him easily. But do not get more then two steps before an arm, like steel, is suddenly around my waist and jerking me back.
Jerking US back. Towards the wall of scrolls and decorative pieces, that sat behind Master Nobutoshi's desk. Startled, my gaze shoots down to see Master Nobutoshi's arm, unhesitating and possessive, wrapped around my waist. There is... a lot more muscle under those flowing robes, then I ever suspected. But-?
I do not even have time to think, to ponder, the question before it is violently answered. The masterfully painted screens, that I had long admired, smashing and tearing as bodies crash through them.
Takashi, dead on the floor, sword still in hand. Around him, his teammates dying, as they still tried to by their Lord even a few moments more, to escape. The large, ever polite Shadow, a man who had been like a brother to me... dumped upon the ground like little more then trash. To be tossed aside and discarded. Stepped over, on some other man's campaign.
His blood mixed with the ruins of the Hunting Tiger screen. Two proud, quietly noble wonders, destroyed. It had been his favorite.
Aiko howled with rage and grief. Threw herself into the fight.
We had been family.
I turned, away, hating myself for it. Knowing it's what they would want. Tears threatened but I could not let them come. Not... not yet. Not yet. There was an emergency exit. Where? Where!? I remembered it. I knew, I knew it! But the grief was muddling my mind, making it slow. Damn it. DAMN IT! WHERE WAS IT!!!??
Master Nobutoshi reached past me. Gripping the hilt of decorative sword, he lifted and drew. It.. it was not decorative. Merely disguised. A masterwork blade. It sang ominously as it cut through the air, entering the scene. Then... a face, breathe, pressed to the side of my head. Like.. like a lover? A terrible discordance, in this already awful event.
"Behind the Three Mountains and a Shrine, My Love. I will be with you shortly."
I froze. The world froze, for all it continued, around me. Distantly... I felt Master Nobutoshi loosen his grip, after... after one last possessive squeeze. Let go. Felt him turn away, as he faced the room. But... but that was... he.... he had....
W-was that? I-Informal? A..And WHAT did he call m-!?
My hand, shaking, found the right scroll. Somehow. Without my numb, panicking mind, they moved dispite me. Somehow determined to keep me alive, dispite my shock. I flicked the right switch. Disarmed the traps in the order they needed to be. And... click. There was the trap door. Our... our way out...
I stared. Blankly. W.. what was I supposed to..? Do?
Was I finally... in shock? That's... probably not good. Bad, actually. I should... should move. There are swords here. It's...? Dangerous? Yes. Dangerous. Bad. I need too... too think. Cry, maybe. Somewhere... not loud. With... with no... no swords.
Stumbling. Stiffly. Like my body was not my own anymore, I knelt. Hands clumsy and far away, I struggled with the trap door. Finally got it. People were... were fighting. Hurting. I... I didn't want to be here anymore. Didn't want to be ANYWHERE anymore. I... I wanted it to stop.
Why? Why wouldn't they all just... just STOP.
Aiko. Takashi. My teammates. Who else? Who else was hurt? G-gone? I was... was supposed to be SAFE. This was supposed to be SAFE. I worked so hard. Compromised and compromised, pushed myself down, and made myself fit. I worked and worked and WORKED, until I had nothing LEFT, b... because this was supposed to be SAFE!!!
I... I was supposed to b-be...!
"Iwamoto!" A voice roared above the chaos and fighting. "Where is She?! I know you're keeping her somewhere!"
Like a lions roar, some primal part of my brain demanded I pay attention. Now. Dragging, with brutal claws, my fragile mind, from its drifting cloud of numbness. One leg already on the steps to the escape tunnel, I turned, and... with horror? Realized I was to blame. For... for ALL of this.
Because? There, in armor, stood the Protagonist's brother. Surrounded by his men, with his sister safely at home, what other SHE could he POSSIBLY mean? If not the one? That ALSO remembers? H...He killed Aiko. Takashi. For THIS?
Monster.
Oh god, he.. he was a MONSTER.
Master Nobutoshi and the Reincarnator squared off. Swords drawn, men at their back. Already, so many were dead. So many I had known. Had worked with. My friends. Just... just pawns, between two powerful men. Dizzy, I realized, they... they hadn't even glanced at them. Didn't even seem to SEE them. Just... just more fodder. For their grand campaigns.
"You know?" Nobutoshi all but purred, as he clashed blades with his opponent. "I really must thank you. You helped me realize, the true worth of the gem I possessed. And, once you're dealt with? I will no longer need to hide her in obscurity. With you dead, little rat, I can finally have her, in every way that matters."
"She'll be a beautiful bride." His grin was a savage thing, full of baring teeth.
The Protagonist's brother raged. A lion, a mountain, and a warlord. Fury twisting what were, no doubt, handsome features into something horrifying. Blade work swift and brutal. How many of my friend's blood? Still painted that blade? Still stained his armor? He dressed himself like he thought he was the hero. He was destroying the only home I had known, for these past decades.
"Pervert! You disgusting CREEP! You think you can just imprison women until they love you?! I always knew there was something wrong with you, but this? This take the cake, you FREAK! I'm getting her out of here! Stopping your schemes! Once and for all!" The Brother roared, something unhinged in his eyes. A lifetime of isolation at last, too much, now that relief might finally be at hand. "You'll never understand her! You CAN'T understand her! Not like me! She was MADE FOR ME! We're supposed to be in this TOGETHER! And I WON'T let you keep me from her ANY LONGER, YOU FREAK!"
They couldn't see anyone but each other, as they fought. Brutal. Savage. Singing blades and madness. Around the room, the two sides clashed. Died. Pointlessly, at the command of their Lords. Sitting at the entrance to the escape route, I could see Aiko from here. Takashi. Both dead, gone, where just this morning we had been joking over our plans for an upcoming festival. We... we were going to hit up the candy booths first. Double back to store our loot. Then enjoy the festivities.
It was a good plan. I was going to pretend... that... that I didn't notice Aiko, stealing all the sour plum candies. I hated them. She loved them. But would never take them if I offered. O.. only fun if she could sneak um. Takashi would save me my favorites. Wasn't much of a sweets guy.
Gone...
All gone.
And for what? Because I "belonged" to the Brother? Because Master Nobu-...no. Because Iwamoto Nobutoshi, picked a FIGHT? All I wanted was to be safe. Live quietly. No plot. No drama. No chaos. Just... just market days and laundry, sweeping and helping make dumplings. Weeding the gardens. Napping with kids and cats. Slowness and the shifting of seasons.
A life, unremarkable.
I looked down into the escape tunnel. Dark, long, and to somewhere unknown.

Hi, can you make all metal cardbots x female metal cardbot reader? So reader is a sweet mechanic and used to repair metal cardbots back at Machina, when she crash landed on earth she fixes the damage of the city even people's vehicles (secretly of course). And she is known by every cardbot so yeah, but she is not really hostile but is scared of strangers.
Reader mostly has a weapon of a Ninja and her personality is a bit based from Tessa Murder drones. :3
You don't mind if i change a bit of your plot, cuz i am a bit confuse one ninja weapon part, where reader is a reparer, and use a ninja type weapon?
Hope you like what i have changed it.
Mystery Helper
Metal Cardbot Season 1 and 2 x Fem Cardbot Reader
Warning: none, fluff
To say your family is normal was a lie.
Your family is a ninja, or what you called assassin ninja.
You have 15 sister, and 21 brother, you are the 5th oldest in your sister group.
But, out of all your siblings, you are the only one who didn't want to become an assassin ninja, only wanting to be an engineer.
When your older sibling are up the age, they will have their first solo mission.
But when it is your turn, you decided to fake your own deaf, make it seem like you were killed in your mission.
Once you are out of the family picture, you created a different identity, and got a job as an engineer far away from your home.
You don't hate your family, they wouldn't understand you, and your too nervous to tell them you didn't want to become an assassin.
------------
When your home planet was destroyed, you manage to bring some things you needed, and left Machina.
Once you have landed on a planet named Earth, you decided to play it safe.
Thanks to your alt-mode being a common car, you manage to plen in with no difficulty.
You learn of the humans here is not as durable as you are, and when a drunk driver crash to a building, you make sure the security camera was off before saving the person inside.
And when people keep getting drunk, you started to follow them, and proteck then till they got back home, some make it safely without your help, some almost got killed, if it wouldn't for you being there.
And soon, your small action to protect the human became the talk of the town, even making it ways to the news.
That is how Jun and his team found out about you.
Jun decided to try and seal you, and fake a crash using Blue Cop, but this didn't work, as you know who Blue Cop is, back on Machina.
So Shadow X decided to catch you with his invisibility.
When finding you helping a human, that was now raped in bandages, Shadow X found out that you are his presumably dead sister, and ran to hug you.
Shadow X is the youngest of your sibling, only started training when you have gotten your solo mission.
Seeing Shadow X's reaction, Jun decided to not seal you till you are willing to be seal.
------------
The team saw on guard when you first arrive, that was until Shadow X introduce you as his older sister.
The team was releaf that you are not here to start a fight, and also confuse on how are you, and Shadow X are even related, you seem much too old to only be Shadow X's sister, maybe it's just them.
When ever any of the bots damaged the workshop, you'll always be there to help Edo refix it, even helping Mega Ambler on healing some injury.
All was great till Crest found a weird looking flat rock, and you are meet with a dejected looking Jun, and a different looking Blue Cop, not to mention a red hair girl.
------------
Slowly, Jun started sealing, and meeting new cardbot that they encounter, one of them being Glober, which you get along pretty well.
The sealed cardbot was happy to be able to meet you, they really like how nice and pation you are to them, including Siero, when he first got sealed.
The cardbot that was manage to not been sealed, seen you with the team.
They first though you are one of the sealed cardbot, until you use your ninja shuriken in the last battle between Flame Nova and Blue Cop.
When you were damaged and unable to fight, Jun quickly seal you when he got his old metal breath back, and thanked you for everything you did till now, and told you to rest in the metal breath till the battle was over.
------------
When the fight was finally over, you were quickly healed and treated for your wound, every bot, old and new, chatting with each other, and making new friends.
Shadow X is the most releaf when he sees you walking around, and conversing with the other cardbot.
You really like your friends, and hope to be with them till the end.
I need some comfort, and by comfort I mean a sweet Lloyd x reader post š
cause Iām a sad bean for reasons that you know, and that I complained about on my account (bf broke up with me for a silly reason) x
May I request a cute Lloyd Garmadon x reader oneshot? Maybe linking to the elementless series where reader has no powers and they go on their first mission and they do terribly, so they feel self-deprecating so their newly named boyfriend Lloyd finds them under a blanket and offers them support.
donāt feel like youāre obliged to do this, hope all is well :))

Warnings: angst (we all need a little angst in our lives to find the fluff), self deprecating thoughts

You sobbed, wiping the tears away from your face as you tried to desperately calm down.
Today was another day full of adventures. And today in particular Lloyd was called to capture some bandits which attacked a bank on the west side of the Ninjago City. Nothing new or extravagant, however today was different. Lloyd was asked to go with someone, in case there happened to be more bad guys nearby or gang members.
Lloyd knew that you often played as the shadow of the team, only coming to fight if the team was in absolute shambles or to cover their backs. You never felt like a real ninja, and the fact that you did not have any elemental powers did not exactly help either. Your boyfriend could see that very well. So he had decided to take you with him for the first time.
You were both grateful and shocked at first, but your excitement seemed to overwrite either of the primal emotions.
At first.
Unfortunately, there were more bandits than you two initially suspected, leaving both of you cornered as you two tried to fight them off as well as keep the other civilians in the bank safe. Everything was going fine, until one of the bandits hit you on both sides of your head, stunning you.
You fell to your knees, your hands over your head as you screamed from the pain. Your senses have been temporarily frozen, the ringing in your ears blocking out any of the noise from the outside. Your sight was blurry and everything seemed to be almost going in slow motion, as the others either ran from you or towards you to further hurt you.
If it wasnāt for Lloyd hearing your scream, you knew you would not be sitting in your room at all right now. You remembered how someone seemed to come up to you to hit you with something, but Lloyd managed to knock the guy out, and beat the other bandits. Some of them ran away, taking a large portion of the stolen money and driving away from you.
Lloyd helped you to stand up, gently cradling your face as his scarlet eyes looked right into yours, his rough hands on your masked face as he searched for any other injuries.
āY/N? Youāre okay?ā He asked, his voice alarmed and yet soft to not overwhelm you. You tried to nod, not wanting to worry him further, however you only winced further as you still felt the inevitable pain in your head. He brought you a little closer, hugging your body to his, providing you warmth and the feeling of security, but also mentally informing himself that you were okay.
You remembered how you saw other civilians look your way. But rather than cheering and thanking the ninja for their help and saving their lives, everyone looked at you disapprovingly.
Even if you did not hear much, you remembered Lloyd holding you tight to him and his other hand reaching out as if to stop the others from talking. Everything was too bright, too loud and yet you have never felt so disconnected from reality as much as you had then. The gazes of all the people, the eyes seemed to almost circulate around you. You hid your face in his chest, muttering that you wanted to go back.
As Lloyd made the journey back to the monastery alongside you, he couldn't help but steal glances in your direction, seeking some sign, some flicker of emotion, but all he encountered was the impenetrable facade of a poker face carefully enshrouding your true feelings. The weight of your disappointment hung heavy in the air, a palpable tension that he instinctively understood. Despite the silence that enveloped you both, he could sense your discomfort and your disappointment.
Anticipating the inevitable confrontation upon your return, Lloyd mentally prepared himself to ask others to give you some space, you needed it
Which brought you to the current moment.
It has been a few hours already. You have been sitting in your room alone, under the blanket to shield yourself from the cruelty and the invisible eyes of those who had judged you just a few hours ago. But even if you have been in the place you assumed to feel the safest in, you still unfortunately could only think of how the mission was all your fault.
You failed them. You failed the citizens, the team⦠you failed Lloyd.
It was your first mission together and you were the cause for its failure. If you only were more cautious of your surroundings, if only you had been better.
If only you were an elemental master, everything would be a lot better.
You would be better.
You sniffed once again, wiping your tears away with the soaked tissue, gripping it in your fist before you threw it away and grabbed another one. Your hunched back hurt a little, so you collapsed with the blanket over your frame onto the bed, curling up in a ball on the bed, hugging your own body.
Your eyes hurt from all the tears you cried, wanting to cry more and yet not having any willpower to let out any more tears. You felt terrible.
You heard a knock on the door, but you didnāt answer. The door opened, to reveal Lloyd coming into your room and closing the door behind himself. He slowly approached you, sitting on the bed as he stared at the large moving blanket. He smiled weakly,
āIs Y/N there?ā He asked softly, his hand gently placed over the top of the blanket, stroking your head through the thick fabric.
āNo, she left,ā you answered, your voice cords breaking with every syllable. Lloyd chuckled.
āOh? Well then, is it alright if I join her? I don't want her to feel alone,ā He asked, his other hand slowly creeping under the blanket as he leaned forward, his forehead touching the barrier between you and him. You pouted. āScrew my boyfriend and his way of understanding meā-. You nodded.
Lloyd smiled and raised the blanket a little, pulling it over his frame as well. He sat fully on your bed and looked into your eyes as the two of you were now covered like a shield from the world. You could see his scarlet eyes very well, they appeared almost animalistic. āThere you are,ā he whispered quietly, his hands coming up to your cheeks and wiping your tears away. You leaned into his touch, your head weight supported by his hands.
āIām sorry. If only I had been better, those guys would have been in jail a long time ago,ā you said weakly, your words mumbled a bit by his hands. Lloyd shook his head, his hands gently pulling you head to make your eyes lock with his.
āY/N things like that happen all the time. You remember back when Kai saved me in the volcano? Before we found out that I was the green ninja. I remember him saying that he regretted not being able to save both me and the Fangblade. But if it wasn't for his sacrifice then I donāt think I would even be here with you.ā Lloyd continued, his forehead moving closer to yours. āY/N, all of us make mistakes. It was your first mission not going as the shadow of me, but rather my partner. They got away now, but we will eventually catch them.ā He told you.
Your hands touched his, holding close to the warmth that you felt so drawn into.
āYour mistakes do not define you. They shape your understanding and your experience, but they do not tell me who you are,ā he whispered those words to you. You nodded, taking a deep breath as you leaned closer to him.
āThank you Lloyd,ā
āAlways,ā
āCan I kiss you then?ā You asked, looking at him intensely. He smiled, chuckling a little.
āYou do not even have to ask,ā He answered, finally closing the gap between the two of you. He held your cheeks as he pulled you in closer, kissing your lips softly. You kissed him back, feeling immediate butterflies in your tummy as you felt how your lips moved in sync, his hands drawing soothing circles on your skin. You pulled him in closer, hugging his upper frame. He let out a sound of satisfaction, however that was quickly interrupted when he lost his balance and both of you gasped as he accidentally fell on top of you.
You two proceeded to laugh. Lloydās arms wrapped around you and hugged you tightly as his face sunk into your neck, smiling widely at the current situation. āI love listening to you laugh,ā he confessed, embracing you as the blanket still was over the two of you.
āOnly you make me laugh like this,ā You told him, your arms wrapping around him tightly as you relaxed into his body. āLloyd?ā

Hii! Me again! Oh I loved the Miles one. Could I request another one with Miles x reader where reader is a part of a ninja clan and is the neice/nephew (GN) of the grandmaster. And reader See's Miles (before he gets bit) in trouble, maybe with some thugs, and helps him. Him and reader continue to be friends and eventually start dating. One day Miles asks to meet their family and reader is like, oh yeah sure. And he gets really freaked out because he didn't know reader was a Ninja and the reason they didn't tell him is because they thought it was obvious.
If you need a name for the clan Koga or Iga-ryu.
A/n: an interesting idea to put my mind to the test! I tweaked it a bit but here you go I hope you like it!! (Honestly I kinda donāt like the way I wrote this one Iām so so sorry if it feels rushed I really can't tell if I like it or not!) I sorta changed the plot slightly Iām sorry if thatās a problem!!
āYouāre a nin-what?ā
Miles Morales x gn!ninja!reader
( summary: Miles, your boyfriend of four months, has asked you to meet his parents on Sunday but your life as a ninja sorta gets in the way )
Warnings?: light swearing, mentions of fighting and bruises, Miles thinking your dad is abusive (he's not, don't worry)
!-!more under the cut!-!
āYou want me to what?ā āMeet my parents!ā Miles smiled and took both of your hands. āPleaseeee.ā You sighed at his puppy dog eyes, dropping your head and mumbling to yourself. You felt one of Milesā hands leave yours before he cupped your face to make you look at him. āHey itāll be alright, theyāll love you I promise.ā You pouted and he kisses your cheek. āPlus I already sorta told them you said yes so,ā Your mouth was left agape as you took a step back from him. āMiles! What the hell? What if I had something to do!ā You crossed your arms. āDo you have something to do?ā He asked, and there was a silence that stretched between you both. āā¦no.ā āExactly.ā
You hadnāt lied, you really did have nothing to do that day, or so you thought. Your father, who was the leader of a ninja-esc organization known as the Koga clan, had a job for you. You accepted, because you had to and totally forgot that you were meant to have dinner at Milesā house with his parents that same day. It didnāt even render for you until he called you in the morning and started ranting about how excited he was. Your heart dropped at the realization, you tried to get some words in to tell him you might have to reschedule but he kept cutting you off, telling you how happy he was that you and his parents can meet and about how his mom is already cooking a bunch of food. You felt so bad with every happy comment that left his mouth that by the time he stopped ranting to you and let you speak you just forced a smile he couldnāt see and told him you couldnāt wait. After hanging up you simply paced your room, unsure of how to go about this. You were meant to go to his house by five, but you just know you wouldnāt be done by then. You didnāt want to make Miles sad but you couldnāt let your father down. Still, it was unfair to your boyfriend to stand not only him up but his parents as well.
You sighed as you sat on your bed, legs bouncing as you weighed your options. Miles meant so much to you, he was there for you whenever you needed and cleaned your wounds from the fights youād lie to him about. He just assumed you were a troublemaker seeing as the first time he met you, you seemed to be picking a fight with two guys that were two times your size. He was able to stop the thugs from beating you; you couldāve handled it yourself but he didnāt necessarily know that, plus that mission had just gone wrong at every turn so you were grateful that he stepped in. You guys were friends for so long before he confessed to you one night while cleaning an especially bad wound, and youāve been together since.
You ran to your father to practically beg him to send someone else. When he asked why you told him that Miles had invited you over to meet his parents, your father wasnāt convinced. He told you to tell Miles you wouldnāt be able to make it, and walked right past you.
At the end of the day, you really didnāt have a choice, youād have to complete your mission. Though, you did convince your father to start the mission an hour earlier and told Miles that you may have to push the time back from five to six or six-thirty. When he asked why you just said your strict dad had made things a bit more complicated. You said that your dad was apprehensive about you meeting his parents and Milesā solution? Bring your dad with you! You barked out a laugh when you got that text and told him that there was no way in hell your dad would go with you.
Your mission was initially going really well, you even thought youād be able to make it to Milesā house on time, but of course everything had to go wrong last minute. The squad that was sent with you got ambushed leaving you completely in the dark. You still got the information even without the help of the others and were preparing to leave only to get spotted last minute and chased out the building. This entire ordeal pushed back your original exit time of 5:30pm to 6:30pm, the time you told Miles youād show up. So now you were late and injured and annoyed, you were probably making a terrible first impression on Milesā parents.
By the time you made it back to your father it was well past 6pm and you tried to skip over getting treatment and just rush to get dressed but your father made you sit down to be checked over. You were holding back tears as you noticed the clock. It was around 7:25 when you were able to find texts from Miles asking if you were still coming, the latest one just told you to forget about it and to just stay home. You felt awful, you didn't know how to fix this. You'd texted him back asking him to reschedule but he just left you on read. So now your walking to his house with tons of gifts and food in your hands, hoping that Miles and his family were home and open for a retry. Miles had ignored you for a whole day after and you couldn't take it anymore so you had to not only go see him but also make amends with his family. Getting up the steps of the house were harder than they should've been, not only from you being sore but also because of the weight of the boxes and bags. You placed them down and rung the doorbell, grabbing a bouquet from the top of a box. Luckily Miles was the one to open the door, his face dropping when he realized it was you.
"What do you want?" His question came out harsh and you winced as if it'd physically hit you. You held out the bouquet of flowers towards him, "Miles! I'm really sorry about Sunday! Can we just talk please?" He scoffed and was about to say more but you'd cut him off before he could. "I brought you and your family some things to make up for it." You spoke quieter than before and Miles was silent for a moment, looking at you then to the boxes, then to the bouquet.
When he finally took the flowers from your hand you'd let out a breath you didn't know you were holding in. "...I'll be right back." He shut the door on your face and you sat on the steps hoping that he's not just leaving you there as payback. When the door did open again it was not only Miles but also his mom. You quickly stood up and gave a sheepish wave. His mom crossed her arms and glanced at Miles before looking back at you, her mouth pressed into a thin line, it was clear now that she was waiting for you to speak. "Hi! Uhh my names Y/n, I'm Miles' partner.." You glanced at the boxes, "I'm super sorry I wasn't able to make it on Sunday my dad just made everything very complicated and in the end I couldn't really go and...you don't wanna hear me complain so." You placed a hand on the boxes and gave her an awkward half smile. "How about a do-over..? There's uhm food and also just some gifts for all of you in there, I felt really bad so I sorta went over on the buying." You heard her let out a nose laugh and your eyes immediately snapped to her face to decipher whether it was a mocking one or not. Luckily the large smile growing on her face told you all it needed to. After looking back towards the door where Miles stood with his father, who you swear wasn't there a second ago; they both gave her a nod and she turned back to you and smiled. "A do-over would be nice." You almost cried at those words but you held it back, just glad that you got a second chance.
After helping moving the boxes and bags into a space in the house you'd pulled Miles aside and asked if you could talk to him alone. He led you to his bedroom and shut the door behind you both so that you could speak more privately. "Miles, I'm so sorry I just stood you up-" Miles held up a hand in front of you to get you to stop talking, "It's fine-" "No, it's not..." You grabbed both his hands and sighed. "It's not fine at all.." A silence fell over the both of you again, only this time it was comfortable and not tension filled. You closed your eyes and took a breath. "Miles, I have something to tell you ok?" He nodded, his eyebrows furrowing in concern. "The reason I wasn't able to go on Sunday was because.." You trailed off as you considered really going through with this. You're not supposed to tell anyone but this is Miles, you love and trust him and though it may seem reckless to tell him you felt as though now was the right time. "It's because of your dad right?" He added after you hadn't spoke in a while, "does he...hit...you..?"
"What?"
"What?"
"What the hell! No, I'm a ninja!"
"You're a nin-what?!"
"I'm a ninja Miles! Oh my gosh what?! I cant believe you- no my dad does not hit me!" A laugh escaped your mouth, the topic being inadvertently funny to you in the moment. "Ok ok ok, backtrack," Miles crossed his arms, "did you just call yourself a ninja? Is this some sort of joke?" You shook your head, "No, my dad sent me on a mission on the same day I was supposed to meet your parents and I didn't realize until it was too late so I couldn't cancel and you just sounded so happy about it so I tried to make it work but then everything went wrong and so I was late and I got hurt so I couldn't rush over-" "You got hurt?" "yes, but that's besides the point." You placed your hands on Miles shoulders. "What I'm trying to say is I'm sorry and I know this whole thing sounds like a joke but I'm serious about it ok?" Miles glanced away from you before his eyes softened and he slowly nodded. "Ok, I believe you.." You smiled and placed your hand on his cheek, leaning in to plant a soft kiss on his lips, which turned into two and then three before a knock on his door broke you both out of it. "Miles whatever you're doing in there you better stop hogging Y/n! I still want to talk to them ya know!" Miles chuckled in embarrassment before yelling to his mom that he'd be right out. He kissed you once more before leading you back to the living room. You helped his mom heat up the food properly so that you all could eat like originally planned. "I don't know exactly why you weren't able to make it here last time but I'm glad you tried again on your own." Your head snapped into the direction of Miles' mom and you smiled. "Yeah I felt really bad, I'm still sorry by the way.." You looked to the floor, "It's alright, you're here now." The conversation lulled off again for a while. "Take care of him." She smiled and continued when you gave her a confused look. "Miles of course, you may be his lover but I'm still his mother and I'd like to know that he'll be safe out there." You gave her a determined nod, "I promise I care too much to let anything happen to him. I'll keep him out of trouble don't worry!" She chuckled at your sudden enthusiasm but nodded. "Good."
The rest of your night consisted of eating dinner with Miles and his family, having his dad slip in sly parental threats into almost every sentence which would be followed by Miles groaning out of embarrassment or Miles' mom scolding, or agreeing with, her husband, All in all, it was a good night in your opinion and you were super glad to have this second chance.

Dante Sparda x Female Ninja!Reader. Reader is a Devil Hunter. Fluff. A little bit of angst. Reader crushes on Dante. Love confessions. Super sweet moments. Devil Hunting.
You've been partners with Dante for a long time now and you've always looked up to him, admiring him and eventually having such a huge crush on the half-Devil, but you're too shy to confess to him. You can't hold it in forever, will you eventually confess to Dante?
You've been working with Dante in Devil May Cry ever since you two met one fateful night. You were tracking down a demon and bumped into the charismatic half-Devil who was tracking down the same demon.
There was some back and forth debate about who would bag this demon until Dante proposed you two take it down together and split the reward equally. You thought about, eventually agreeing to the deal. If he was willing to split the reward with you and help you fight this demon, why not?
And took it down you two did. The demon never stood a chance. It was slaughtered within minutes though it did put up a fight but ultimately, you two got it down in the end. And Dante was good on his promise, he split the reward money just as he promised and you were grateful for his help.
But Dante then proposed a question for you.
"You know, you've got some killer skills there with those blades. How about you join me at my business? If you want that is, just give it some thought if you are interested. Here's the number" Suggested Dante handing you a card with the number to the place.
"Devil May Cry?" You Reapeated the name, liking the way the name sounded, impressed. Dante smiled and with a handshake, you both went your separate ways.
That was until you arrived at Devil May Cry, surprising Dante who looked at you as you entered the building.
"I was thinking you wouldn't take the offer" Chuckled Dante, rubbing his neck awkwardly. You smirked warmly at Dante.
"I gave it some thought and came to the conclusion that it was a good idea. Besides, Devil Hunters work great when together. And I'd be happy and grateful if you accept me into your business" You Explained.
Dante chuckled and opened his arms out wide with a big smile.
"Welcome to Devil May Cry!" Declared Dante and you smiled, feeling excited to join up with this charming Devil Hunter.
Since that day, you've worked on many jobs as Dante's partner. You and him worked like a well oiled Devil killing machine, unleashing an array of moves and style to cut through hordes of hellspawn. Your Ninja reflexes and style you acquired while training in Japan, making you also very stealthy, even sneaking up on unsuspecting demons and attacking without alerting other demons, impressing Dante.
"Ninja Devil Hunter? Hell yeah!" Praised Dante. You couldn't help but chuckle along with him. On days when you two had no jobs, you'd just chill out, listen to the jukebox and order up some food.
You also got the opportunity to get to know the rest of the Devil Hunters at Devil May Cry. You were introduced to Trish and Lady, despite at first a little bit of tension you and the ladies quickly warmed up to one another and became very good friends with one another. You also met Nico who was obsessed with your swords and blades and you honestly found it cute.
"Wow! Real strong Japanese steel, forged from slain demons. What a work of art, truly a work of art" Remarked Nico and you smiled proudly.
"One of my most best swords in my arsenal currently" You Stated with pride.
You also learned about Dante's family and the tragic past surrounding the Sparda family. You met Vergil, Dante's twin brother and Nero, Vergil's son and Dante's nephew.
You liked Nero and Vergil, you could see there was a bit of strain between the two, but hopefully with time, it will heal and eventually grow stronger.
Throughout your experience with working with Dante, you did begin to have a crush on the half-Devil and it only grew more the longer you worked with him on missions and such. Everytime you looked at him, you felt your heart race and cheeks heat up, he was handsome I mean come on!
You adored his sense of humour, his witty jokes and comebacks, his smile and his confidence. He was also warm-hearted and even on bad days when Dante was down, you always would cheer him up to see that bright spark return to his blue eyes and that smile that made your heart melt.
But you were so shy, so very shy. How would confess to him? Would he been interested in a relationship? Did he view the same way you view him? All these questions ran through your mind and you were in conflict on what to do.
"I have to let him know how I feel! It's causing distractions during jobs! I have to just get it out of my system" You Thought. You shook your head.
"No. He probably looks at you as more of a close friend, like Lady and Trish. He probably isn't looking for a relationship" You Thought sadly. But again, you shook your head.
"But I still have to let him know how I feel! I can't keep it to myself forever. One way or another, I will have to confess to him at some point in time!" You Thought. With a sigh, you pinched the bridge of your nose.
"But if he doesn't return your feelings, what then? It will only hurt you in the end" You Thought with a sad sigh.
What will you do? Do you confess or hide it?
"Hey Y/N! What brings you here at this hour? We got no jobs tonight" Asked Dante as you entered Devil May Cry, dressed in some casual comfy wear. You chuckled a little and shrugged your shoulders.
"Thought maybe you wanna hang out here tonight? That's only if you don't have plans then we can leave it for another time" You Suggested, blushing a bit. Dante's eyes lit up and sat up in his office chair, a big grin on his face.
"Are you kidding? Of course I'll hang out with you! Hey we can catch up on the season of that show we like!" Suggested Dante excitedly. You blushed harder, seeing Dante so excited.
"Sure! Hey, do want something to eat?" You Asked. Dante grinned at you, sending your heart racing.
"You know my favourite" Dante Grinned, sending you a wink that made your heart go haywire. You chuckled and dialed up the number.
With pizza warm and ready, some drinks and your favourite show and your favourite Devil Hunter next to you, it was a perfect night in. Throughout the show, you steal quick glances up at Dante, just to admire him. You could gaze all day if you wanted to. If only he knew how you truly felt.
"See something you like?" Teased Dante's voice. You jumped at the sound of his voice and saw Dante staring at you, smirking and chuckling at having made you nearly jump out of the couch.
"Wha...?" You Stammered.
"Caught you staring at me. Is there something you wanna tell me?" Asked Dante, raising an eyebrow and smiling.
Your face turned red as a tomato and you felt embarrassed at having been caught staring at him like a lovestruck schoolgirl from an anime show. You quickly turned your head away, hiding your red face.
"I'm so sorry!" You Blurted out. Dante tilted his head, confused at you and then he frowned.
Dante reached over and gently turned your head to him. He smiled softly at you and you just melted, tears welling up a little.
"I....I like you Dante!" You Confessed.
Dante blinked at you, his head tilted.
"You like me?" Asked Dante, surprised.
"I mean, I like you. A lot. I like you a lot....a lot lot in fact. Like I REALLY like you a lot LOT....lot" You Stammered, blushing hard. You sighed.
"I guess what I'm trying to say is......Dante I love you. I know it's weird and if you don't love me back, just please say so and we can forget this ever happened and move on" You Confessed and braced yourself for the rejection that was surely coming your way.
Dante chuckled and you looked up at him, confused and little pissed at him chuckling.
"I thought I was the one with a crush here. I honestly thought you weren't into me that way" Admitted Dante.
Your eyes widened in shock.
"You....have a crush....on me?" You Asked.
"Sure have. For a while now. I just thought you didn't see me that way, so I was kinda holding off confessing. I probably should have admitted it sooner. Sorry" Apologised Dante.
"I was kinda holding it off too Dante, until well you caught me staring. You are attractive" You Admitted. Dante grinned at that and proudly flexed, causing you to giggle.
You two looked at each other and smiled.
"So, are we....." Dante Began.
"Officially in love?" You Asked, raising an eyebrow.
"Well, I do love you. A lot. I love you a lot Y/N" Admitted Dante.
"And I love you a lot too Dante" You Admitted and you both shared a kiss together before breaking apart.
"So, pizza date sometime?" Asked Dante.
You giggled and caressed his scruffy face lovingly.
"It's a date Dante!" You Replied and you both snuggled up on the couch in each other's arms, happy to be together and happy you both confessed your feelings for one another.
A perfect end to a perfect night and the perfect beginning to you and Dante's relationship.
