*To Be or Not to Be (Out) (The Christmas Setup)

Patrick Ryan makes his way to the cashier, talking with his friends about a movie they just saw. As (protagonist) gets ready to punch in his order (Patrick always has the same thing), he hears the girls and Patrick swoon over the hotness of the actors in the movie.

As almost always when he sees Patrick, he starts to wonder if he should come out. It hasn’t hurt Patrick’s social standing. Except he has no social standing.

Who would he even come out to? His classmates? Patrick? Would it change anything for him? He’s not sure. So it’s better to stay in. Maybe that makes him a coward. But maybe he’s not ready to lose anything he does have. Maybe the closet is safety.

Duke’s long been sure that if he ever would fall for someone, if he had ever wanted someone, that someone would have been Grady Connor. But he never did. If he was younger, he suspects he might think the same about Shayna Judson. But he knows better now. Knows who he is, and what he doesn’t want. He can sing about love and romance and implicit sex but he does not feel the desire for them himself.

“Aromantic” Jess reads from the computer screen. Her voice sounds, empty, hollow.

After a moment of continued silence, Sunil gets up from the bed.

“Do you want a hug?” Sunil can see Jess’ head moving up and down in a nod but she doesn’t say anything.

Sunil takes a few steps and puts his arms around Jess’ shoulders from behind the desk chair. Jess relaxes a little.

“I don’t know what to do with this information,” she says quietly.

“Me neither,” Sunil says.

“Do you want to kiss me?” Lexie asks.

Nathan's brain is fuzzy, both from the alcohol and Lexie’s nearness.

“I don’t know.”

He’s pretty sure nothing physical would have happened between him and Sarah if she hadn’t been so forward. If Audrey hadn’t shut him up with a kiss, their goodbye wouldn’t have included that. Nathan’s not good at this stuff. He doesn’t know how to react to Lexie.

“Do you want to kiss me?” Lexie’s not sure why she asks. He’s been drinking all afternoon and though he’s close, he still hasn’t closed the distance between them.

“I don’t know.”

From meta: *Lexie hadn’t ever been in love, although she still possibly felt the love other personalities had felt (I’m sure there’s a term that kinda fits, but I’m not sure)

=cupioromantic, wanting a romantic relationship even though one doesn’t feel romantic attraction

*She’s in her 30s and never been in love before, although she had pursued relationships and wanted to have a relationship with ‘a decent guy’ and was very flirty and forward.

So, you could think that if, like William assumed/wanted, she was feeling an ache in her heart as leftoever feeling from Audrey/Sarah(Lucy) for Nathan, that might be a bit cupio-esque in the real world. As always, she’s allosexual, possibly bi/pan, depending how you interpret her relationship with Rhonda.

Also:

William: You remember it but you didn’t feel it.

Lexie: You ever ride on a bench seat for four hours straight? Believe me, I felt it.
