Y/n was sitting in her room reading when she started to hear a light tapping on her window which she knew was odd since her bedroom is on the second floor and only her brother was home, probably in his own room. Y/n got up to check once the tapping got more rapid. Was it the smartest thing in their town? No, but Y/n was pretty sure nothing from the upside down would care enough to knock.
âWhat are you doing here? You know Steveâs home right?â Y/n said as she let in her brotherâs enemy, helping him in through her window. He hadnât mentioned coming over earlier at school so Y/n was very surprised.
âI-IÂ didnât know where else to go.â Billy hissed from pain as he stood up.
âOh god Billy.â Y/n gasped taking in the already forming bruises on his face.
âCould you help?â He asked, having trouble taking off his jacket. Y/n nodded and gently helped him take off his jacket.
who knows?
secretbf! steve harrington x reader: comforting steve amidst what might just be the end of the world
tags: sweet with some angst surrounding the end of the world, secret relationship, spoilers for s5 (written before vol 3), comfort, listen to "who knows" by daniel caesar a/n: i was feeling depressed so i wrote this instead. happy new year <3
it'd been a long day.
steve's not getting his car back anytime soon. jonathan and nancy almost died. max is awake. eleven has a sister who is going to help them defeat vecna. will can channel vecna.
it's a lot.
after regrouping at the squawk and going over the final plan for might very well end in destruction of hawkins and otherwise the universe, everyone is on edge. they're organizing weapons and prepping for the worse. steve's trying to be helpful, he's keeping an eye on the kids (dustin in particular after what happened in the upside down not too many moments ago), and steve is almost as ready as there is to be for whatever is about to come. key word: almost.
his mind is on somewhere else. someone else. you.
when he thinks no one is looking he's been pulling out his wallet to look at the polaroid of you and him. nobody knows about you and his relationship apart from robin and hopper. steve had thought him and you were being discreet beneath the night sky behind the squawk. but he kissed you a little too long under the stars once, reluctantly letting you go despite you running late anyway, and hopper had caught the two of you. the former police chief was coming by to pick up something for el. steve had begged hopper to not say anything, wanting to keep you away from the complicatedness of it all. hopper, surprisingly and begrudgingly, understood.
but in all the prep for the end hopper momentarily lets his attention sway from el to the group. he can't help but notice steve looking at the photo, putting it away, fidgeting before helping someone who needs something, and repeat. hopper glances at the clock and the room, and decides to tell steve that he has an hour to "get more supplies".
one hour.
steve has never made it to your house this fast.
when you let him in you smile softly and understandingly. you carefully take his leather jacket off of his shoulders and his bandana from his neck and the hat that sits backward on his head to fix his hair.
"there you are." you hum at him lovingly, taking his hands and leading him to sit with you on the couch. steve just about melts as he gently guides you to rest on your back so he can lay on you like a human weighted blanket.
steve's explained to you everything that has happened in the group starting from the very beginning, filling you in whenever he gets the chance even now. he keeps you away from everyone because you're his one good thing. you're untouched by danger that way.
"do you think everything will be okay?" steve asks, his voice a bit muffled from where his face hides in your chest and your fingers run through his hair.
"i don't know. i hope so." you answer with simple honesty . you both know that everything is scary and not certain. steve wonders if it's a crime to be unsure of the future, not just one where everyone lives, but of one in which he could get to be with you.
your hope keeps him going though. it's moments like this, where he doesn't have to be a babysitter, or a hero. he can be more than his mistakes and everything he didn't do. you believe in him, and let him come to you.
as the minutes tick by, steve shifts to squeeze himself to lay next to you on the limited space on the sofa. he props his head up with one hand so he can look at you while the other gently strokes the skin of your hip where your shirt (aka his that he left here a few days ago) ridden up.
"i made a pact. with dustin. i promised him, if he dies, i die too." steve admits to you. dustin doesn't know about you. at least not the full truth, just that your picture is in steve's wallet and was also clipped to steve's sunvisor in the beamer. steve wouldn't share much else. but because of that, and steve wanting to be reassuring to the kid, he couldn't not agree.
"are you scared?" you ask, not trying to push but wanting the truth from your boyfriend.
steve pauses for what feels like a long time before sighing.
"i am." he admits. steve doesn't want to be a coward. things feel awfully final this time around, and he doesn't want to think about what life would be like if somehow coming home to you wasn't an option.
despite his fears, you take it as what they are and hold him for as long as you can. it's your way of not trying to give him false security, but letting him know you love him. that you hope that can be enough to sustain him through this. you're much too pure, too kind, and good for him. but whatever universe or god decided to gift you to him, he's grateful.
when his hour is up, you carefully help him get his monster fighting gear back on. he tugs his cozy sweater he was wearing earlier, his favorite one that he never lets you steal, over your head. he wraps his arms around your waist, yours tangling around his neck as your foreheads press together.
"be careful." you tell each other at the same time, closing your eyes as your lips meet the others slow and soft in a kiss that says "i'll love you always" because saying it outloud is too hard right now.
he wants to tell you that if this evil gets defeated and he does get to come home, he wants to marry you. maybe finally introduce you properly to the others. to get the hell out of hawkins after. but who knows? he might just have to take that to the grave if that's what's coming for him.

Netflix truly loves to self-sabotage because what the actual fuck do you mean that they cancelled Boots? The show has an incredible 90% on Rotten Tomatoes, got the whole internet going, got the gays going, offered such an easy money grab for them, had everything set up deliciously for the second season, and they do what? Cancel it while extending some shit-ass shows barely anyone watches.
And then you have HBO (Crave) that announces a second season of Heated Rivalry before the show even finishes airing because they are aware of the hype the show has and the sheer potential of it, and are clearly not a bunch of nutheads.
When you realize it's the end of the Squid Game era too đ

Y/n had faced all kinds of things in his lifeâearly mornings in the woods with his dad, getting dragged along on fishing trips, learning how to track deer despite secretly preferring comic booksâbut none of that prepared him for the Wheeler household.
Especially when he was meeting Nancyâs family for the first time.
The boy's palms were sweating against the collar of his nicest flannel shirt as he walked up the driveway. Nancy walked beside him, her fingers brushing his like she could sense his nerves. She wore a soft, encouraging smileâthe one she always gave him right before he spiraled too deep into his head.
âYouâll be fine,â The girl whispered. âI promise.â
âYeah, well⊠Iâm less worried about me and more about your dad staring into my soul.â
Nancy laughed, nudging her boyfriend with her shoulder. âTrust me, Ted staring into your soul would require effort.â
That actually helped.
Inside, the Wheeler home smelled exactly how Y/n imagined it: warm, clean, like laundry detergent and something baking in the oven. Karen walked out of the kitchen first, wiping her hands on a towel. Holly clung to her leg. Mike peeked from behind the wall, eyes already bright with curiosity.
âYou must be (Y/N),â Karen said, her eyebrows liftingâclearly surprised. Y/n wasn't sure whether it was surprised by his height, his broad frame, or the fact that he looked more like he belonged in the woods than in her living room. âNancyâs told us⊠well, not much, actually.â
Nancy groaned softly. âMomâŠâ
âItâs wonderful to meet you,â Karen continued, stepping forward with a smile that seemed genuinely warm. âCome in, come in.â
Y/n tried not to fidget, but then Holly toddled forward, tugging on the sleeve of his shirt. She stared up at him with big, round eyes.
He then crouched down immediately. âHey there,â the boy said softly, smiling. âYou must be the little princess I heard about.â
Holly grinnedâthis tiny, delighted little sound escaping her as she pressed her hands to her cheeks. She hid behind Karenâs leg again, peeking out shyly.
âGreat,â Nancy muttered teasingly. âAlready stealing my sister.â
Y/n placed a hand over his heart dramatically. âHey, I stand no chance against royalty.â
That earned another laugh from Holly and a smile from Karen.
Ted finally appeared from the den, his newspaper tucked under his arm. He gave the boy a glanceâa single, disinterested scanâbefore nodding.
âAh,â he said flatly. âNancyâs friend.â
âDad,â Nancy sighed. âHe's my boyfriend.â
Ted blinked at that, nodded again, and wandered straight into the kitchen without a single follow-up question. Karen gave an embarrassed smile and mouthed, Iâm sorry.
Y/n leaned down slightly toward Nancy and whispered, âThat went better than I thought.â
Mike walked right up to the older boy, then scanned his eyes over his shirt. âHey, is that a Hellboy pin?â
Y/n's eyes lit up. âYeah! You read those?â
âOf course I do!â Mike practically bounced. âDo you think Hellboy could beat the Demogorgonâor like, a Demogorgon-type monster in D&D?â
The older boy's face brightened instantlyâthis was his language. âDepends which version youâre talking about. Early-run Hellboy? Absolutely. Later arcs? Not as clean a fight.â
âOh my God,â Nancy whispered behind her boyfriend, both amused and relieved. âHere we go.â
Mike pulled the older boy toward the living room, already rapid-firing questions about comic lore, monster stats, and whether he ever played D&D with his dad.
Y/n snorted. âMy dad? Chief Hopper? He once grounded me because I tried to make him be the dungeon master.â
Mike gasped dramatically. âTragic.â
From the kitchen doorway, Nancy watched her boyfriend and her brother fall into instant, animated conversation. Y/n was explaining why magical resistance didnât necessarily make a creature invincible; Mike was nodding so enthusiastically that his hair bounced.
Karen leaned closer to Nancy and whispered, âHeâs sweet.â
Nancyâs cheeks turned a little pink. âYeah,â she murmured. âHe really is.â
-----------
Dinner was easier than Y/n expected. Holly insisted on sitting beside him, occasionally slipping him toy blocks or tapping his arm so heâd whisper âYour Majestyâ again. Karen asked polite questions, and the boy did his best to answer without sounding like a complete dork. Ted ate quietly but didnât seem bothered by his existence, which Nancy silently celebrated as a victory.
And Nancy⊠she kept looking at him.
Softly. Warmly.
Whenever Y/n laughed at something Mike said, or leaned down so Holly could braid his fingers with hers, or answered one of Karenâs questions with that shy smile he tried so hard to hideâher chest filled with something light and warm.
By the time dessert came out, Y/n realized something: he wasn't nervous anymore.
Nancy placed her hand on his knee under the table, her thumb brushing patiently back and forth.
âSee?â she whispered, leaning closer. âTold you youâd be fine.â
Y/n turned his head slightly so only the girl could hear.
âIâm more than fine,â he murmured. âIâm with you.â
Nancyâs cheeks flushed. She looked down at her lap like she was trying not to smile too hard, though the corners of her mouth still curled.
Outside, Mike was already asking if heâd come over again to help him build a new D&D campaign. Holly waved her tiny arms when Y/n stood, like she didnât want her âknightâ to leave yet. Karen hugged him warmly. And Ted⊠nodded again.
And when the door closed behind the two of them, Nancy laced her fingers with Y/n's.
âThank you,â she said quietly. âFor tonight. For them. For⊠everything.â
Y/n squeezed her hand gently. âAnytime, Nance.â
The girl then leaned her head up as her arms wrapped around her boyfriend's neck to bring him down and kissed him softly on the lips. With a final kiss, Nancy stepped back and exchanged a shy smile with Y/n while she watched as her boyfriend walked down the driveway, the porch light was glowing behind him like something out of a movie.
Soft and domestic... Exactly the way she liked Y/n Hopper.
-----------
Nancy Wheeler had survived pop quizzes, Steve Harringtonâs inssessive flirting, a suspiciously long science fair, and an encounter with a creature she still refused to think about.
But meeting Jim Hopper as her boyfriendâs father?
That was a whole different kind of terrifying.
Her boyfriend could tell she was nervous from the moment she stepped out of her car. Nancy smoothed her sweater three times, checked her hair in the side mirror twice, and then checked Y/n's.
âDo I look okay?â she whispered.
âYou look perfect,â the boy assured her, brushing a strand of hair behind her ear. âHeâs gonna love you.â
Nancy gave her boyfriend a look that said she absolutely did not believe that.
Y/n's house was smaller than the Wheelersâ. A little messy, a little worn, the porch steps creaking under his weight. But it felt warm. Safe. Home.
Inside, something good was cooking, which was suspiciousâY/n knew his dad only cooked like that when he was trying to be impressive. Or hide the fact that he burned something else first.
Jim looked up from the stove as you both stepped in. He wore his usual flannel, sleeves rolled up, badge tossed on the counter like it offended him.
âThere they are,â the man said, though he was mostly looking her over. âNancy Wheeler, right?â
âYes, sir,â Nancy said politely.
âSir?â Jim snorted, waving a spoon. âKid, nobody calls me âsirâ unless Iâm arresting them.â
âOhâsorry,â Nancy mumbled, cheeks pink. âUmâChief Hopper?â
He blinked. â...Yeah, okay. That works.â
Y/n lightly nudged his girlfriend's shoulder. âHeâs harmless. Big teddy bear.â
âKeep it up,â Hopper muttered, âand youâre doing the dishes tonight.â
Nancy giggled under her breath. Y/n shot her a betrayed look.
The three of them sat for dinnerâsteak, mashed potatoes, and corn. The kind of meal Hopper made when he actually wanted someone to think he had his life together.
âSo,â Hopper said, stabbing a piece of steak with unnecessary intensity. âMy boy says youâre big on school.â
Nancy nodded quickly. âYes. I⊠really like working hard. I want to get into a good college.â
âHm.â
Hm? That was it?
Y/n cleared his throat. âShe, uh⊠tutors me sometimes.â
Hopperâs eyebrow shot straight up.
âTutors? In what?â
The boy choked slightly on air. Nancy answered before her boyfriend died from embarrassment.
âHistory,â the girl said gently. âAnd English sometimes.â
Hopper leaned back, attention flipping between the two teenagers.
âSo youâre the reason he passed that last exam.â
Nancy blushed. âIâI wouldnât say I passed it for himââ
Hopper held up a hand. âNo. No, let me have this. You did society a favor.â
Y/n dropped his forehead to his hand. âDad.â
Nancy tried not to laugh but failed miserably. Her shoulders shook, and Hopper grinned like he was already getting along with her better than he ever did with his son.
-----------
After dinner, while Hopper washed up (because he lost at rock, paper, scissorsâY/n was a master), the teenage couple sat on the couch. The living room was dim except for the lamp beside Nancy. It cast warm light over her hair, softening her expression.
The girl looked around quietly, taking in the little detailsâY/n's fishing rods against the corner, stacks of comics, the photo of him and Hopper at the lake, both sunburned.
âIt feels cozy here,â she said softly.
Y/n shrugged. âItâs nothing fancy.â
âI didnât say fancy,â The girl murmured, leaning closer. âI said cozy.â
A heavy clatter came from the kitchen.
âDamn sink,â Hopper grumbled.
Nancy giggled again, the sound sweet and light. Her hand slipped into her boyfriend's without hesitation.
âI like it here,â she whispered.
âYou like him?â Y/n asked, nodding toward the kitchen.
The girl smiled. âI actually do. Heâs funny.â
Y/n's brows shot up. âHopper? Chief Hopper? My Dad? Funny? Are you sure youâre not sick?â
Nancy nudged him. âShut up.â
Then, a voice bellowed from the kitchen:
âHey. Do you want Ice Cream or not?â
Nancy stiffened.
Y/n laughed. â Don't worry. That means he likes you.â
Hopper appeared with two bowls in hand. âAnd I only scooped two,â he said, eyes narrowing at his son. âBecause someone keeps eating my chocolate.â
âI donâtââ
âYou do.â
Nancy shook with laughter again.
The three of them ended the night watching TVâsome old western Hopper swore was âa classic.â Nancy rested her head on Y/n's shoulder, his arm curled around her shoulders. Hopper pretended not to look over at them every few minutes, pretending to still be invested in the movie.
But at one point, he caught his son's eyes and gave him the tiniest nod.
A rare Hopper approval.
-----------
By the time Y/n walked Nancy back to her car, the sky was dark, the air cool. The girl turned to him before getting in.
âThank you for tonight,â she said softly. âYour dad is⊠really wonderful.â
âYou donât have to lie.â
âIâm not.â She stepped closer, smiling. âIâm glad I got to see your world.â
Y/n laced his fingers with hers. He then lifted their hands and placed a soft kiss on the back of her hand.
âThen Iâm glad youâre part of it.â
Nancy kissed his cheekâquick, warm, and full of quiet affection.
âGoodnight,â she whispered, breath lingering on the boy's skin.
As she drove away, Hopper stepped onto the porch.
âSheâs a good one,â he said.
âYeah,â Y/n murmured, still flushed. âShe is.â
Hopper crossed his arms.
âDonât screw it up, kid.â
Y/n glanced at his Dad. He wasnât jokingâbut he wasnât threatening either.
âI wonât,â he said honestly.
Hopper nodded once. âGood.â
Then he paused.
âSo⊠did she like the ice cream?â
Y/n groaned. âDad.â
