Ah! the sight and smell of the Spring in Nan-tasarion!

And I said that was good.

I wandered in the Summer in the elm-woods of Ossiriand.

Ah! the light and the music in the Summer by the Seven Rivers of Ossir!

And I thought that was best.

To the beeches of Neldoreth I came in the Autumn.

Ah! the gold and the red and the sighing of leaves in the Autumn in Taur-na-neldor!

It was more than my desire.

To the pine-trees upon the highland of Dorthonion I climbed in the Winter.

Ah! the wind and the whiteness and the black branches of Winter upon Orod-na-Thôn!

My voice went up and sang in the sky.

And now all those lands lie under the wave,

And I walk in Ambaróna, in Tauremorna, in Aldalómë,

In my own land, in the country of Fangorn,

Where the roots are long,

And the years lie thicker than the leaves

In Tauremornalómë.

Forest of Neldoreth

Songs are carried differently in this wood. Most dense in trees, with many ferns growing freely to reach the sun, moss covering lowest parts of trees, forest of Neldoreth is considered as wildest of all three forest in the Kingdom of Doriath.

There are little to no roads to go through and only few smaller paths lead in between the trees. For the most part, the forest remain uninhabited and most settlements are placed close to Menegroth. From the northern part, almost on the edge of the tree line, stands Northern Tower where hardened and resilent soldiers oversee the lands close to Ered Gorgoroth that cast shadow on Doriath in evergrowing threat.

Some say it’s because of this shadow that the forest grew so independant and remained wild as ever but even though the trees seem so self-reliant, they are far from unfriendly - they welcome everyone under their canopies, offering pleasant shade and cool wind in a sunny day and guarding from rain with own branches and leaves. Trees are playful and very much receptive, longing for closeness and elves who decided to settle in Neldoreth stroll through those woods very often, climbing the trees freely and resting in their highest branches.

As the wildest, Neldoreth is a known refuge of lynx in Doriath, few bears made their homes out there as well and beside wolves, sometimes even wolverines were spotted travelling tirelessly in between the trees. Most august and valued red deer bulls are hunted there, fallow deer and moose are so numerous it’s almost impossible to not see them and largest wolf to ever live in Doriath lead her pack to this forest and made in her own. And it’s free to say that beside her, nothing and no one will ever own this wood.
