it’s so hard for Halek that he has to keep Meelasugaado secret because he *so badly* wants to tell Neefa all about it. He wants to tell her about how it felt to have a fresh start and how it’s harder to be trans there and about Juraji and Diihse and all his new friends and about what it’s like to be a serious student again and about what’s different there and how being an international student can be lonely but it’s also nice to be around almost entirely people who look more like him and what it’s like to live on his own in a student apartment with just Juraji instead of in a big house with his whole huge family and he wants to tell her the truth about why he can’t hang out very often and he so, so badly wants to stop lying to her and to actually be worthy of her trust like she thinks he is.

I should get Neefa more involved in the next draft, because the thing is that she TRUSTS Halek and he’s the ONLY person she trusts and he has to lie to her (because if he tells her the whole truth it could get people killed) and it tears him apart and she would be absolutely crushed if she found out. And that’s the eternal dilemma of Halek’s life, isn’t it?
