Many deployed troops leave their families behind to serve their country. They make many sacrifices to keep their country secure. A few ways to recognize their services include: 1. Donate to a military organization like the USO. They support troops in the U.S. and overseas. The USO also provides support to the families before, during and after service. 2. Send care packages. ⁣ Today is #NationalDayOfTheDeployed and as I paused this morning to reflect on our first deployment, a few thoughts stood out to me that I would like to share with any military spouses facing their first deployment or even just an unusual one.⁣ ⁣ - Expect the unexpected. Did I think our first deployment would coincide with a global pandemic and a 3 month turned 6 month timeline? Nope. 😂 But this deployment showed me resilience I didn’t know I had and an ability to adapt on a whim. ⁣ ⁣ - You can do hard things. There were days where I screamed. There were days where I cried. There were days that were so good I even forgot to be worried. Looking back now I can see how strong I’ve become and I know your ability to walk through tough seasons will only come with added grace after a deployment.⁣ ⁣ - Absence makes the heart grow fonder but reintegration takes work. The first few weeks after my husband got home were some of the sweetest of our marriage. We found the unexpected blessing of quarantine helped us catch up on lost time together. But there will be friction points. You’ve lived separate lives for months and in our case experienced a pandemic completely differently. Expect and embrace the friction. How perfect is it that National Day of the Deployed also falls on Red Friday?!
