Military TW- Light drinking WC-Summary- Paige was in the military for 6 years. Azzi and her met at one of their high school classmates' weddings. A/N- I am going to try my best to be more active, but I am not sure how well that will work. But please send more fic ideas!
Instead of Paige going to UConn as she originally planned—her dream was to go to UConn, win a natty with Azzi by her side, and then go to the W—none of that happened or went as planned.
Back then, Paige made a critical decision and chose not to attend college, and enlisted in the military. Meanwhile, Azzi did follow their high school plans, attending UConn and winning two National Championships. Then got drafted to the Dallas Wings.
After enlisting straight out of high school, Paige served a total of 8 years in the Air Force as one of the aircraft crew. Now, at age 26, with only a couple of months since leaving the Air Force, she is based out of Dallas, Texas, unaware that Azzi, the girl she loved in high school, is also living there. Azzi is now 25. One of the most important players on the Wings.
When she tried to get in contact with her old friends. She ended up being invited to an old friend's wedding. One of the girls played basketball for Team USA.
It was the day of the wedding. She was in a casual button-up, a pair of black slacks, and some black loafers she had bought right after she got back, trying to get some nicer clothes, since she was going to start trying to go on dates with women. When she finished getting ready. She got in the car, putting in the location to the GPS.
After a thirty-minute drive, she was at the venue. She found a parking spot. Sitting in the truck a moment longer, trying to work up the courage to go inside. She went in and found a random seat towards the middle. She sat through the whole ceremony, not knowing very many people there, and the people she did know probably don’t remember her, since being in the air force changed her whole look. Now she has big arms and leg muscles, and long blond hair.
When the ceremony was over, she went and found her seat at the reception. Sitting at the big circle table, where there were about 10 more little name cards and, of course, with her luck, she got seated next to Azzi Fudd, the girl she had a crush on forever. Lucky for her, Azzi was not over there yet; she had some time to mentally prepare before she got over there.
It took maybe another 20 minutes before Azzi arrived in her long, dark green dress and black heels, her hair in an updo. When she was about to sit, Azzi caught Paige’s eye. “Hey Paige, I didn’t know you were coming. I thought you were still gone,” she said as she sat down. “Yeah, I just got back a couple of months ago. I got the invite, so I said fuck it, and I came,” Paige replied with a smirk. “It’s really good to see you. Are you living in Dallas full-time now?” Azzi asked, just as the food started to arrive. “Yeah, I think I’m gonna, it seems like a really nice area to live in,” Paige answered, cutting into her chicken. “There’s an Air Force base near here, so I might just stay by it.”
Azzi had been drinking lemon drops like they were water. By the end of the night. She had been all over Paige the whole night, and even more now that she is drunk. “Paige, I miss you so much,” Azzi says while going in for a hug, and who is Paige to pass it up? Every time Azzi tried to hug her, Paige would accept it, missing the way they were so close when they were young; hell, they were more friends. They were dating, and when Paige left for the Air Force, she kinda just ghosted Azzi. So technically, they never broke up, but now something is different.
Everyone had slowly started to leave, and Paige and Azzi were still talking. By Paige and Azzi, I mean Azzi. Azzi pulled Paige onto the dance floor when the song they used to slow dance to came on, “I miss us, I miss when we were together.” Azzi slurs her words, “I miss us too, Az,” Paige says with a smirk, knowing Azzi won’t remember any of it in the morning.
It was getting late, and almost everyone was gone. “Azzi, let me give you a ride home. You can’t drive like this, and in the morning, if you want, we can come back and get your car,” Paige says, looking at the girl who can barely stand up straight without holding on to her. “I would love that, Paigey,” Azzi says. Paige’s heart feels warm; Azzi had not called her that in forever, and she missed it.
After some slight convincing, Azzi finally agreed. Paige walked to the truck and helped her get in. Closing the door behind Azzi. Then, going around the car and hopping in the driver's seat. Buckling and starting the car, her phone automatically connects, starting one of her playlists she had made recently. Turning it down, knowing Azzi had a little bit of a headache. Paige had Azzi give her her address and put it in the GPS, and turns out they live in the same building. Which is not surprising since there is not a lot for the area they live in, and also because that is the apartment most of the Dallas wings live in.
The ride back was calming, quiet, besides the low hum of the music in the background.
When they make it back to the apartment, Paige helps Azzi get inside. Right as Paige was about to leave, Azzi spoke up, and at this point, she had started to sober up, “Paige, will you please stay? I just don’t want to be alone.” Azzi asks as she is sitting on the counter. “Are you sure that is a good idea?” Paige asks, giving her that look. “Please, Paige,” Azzi pleaded, grabbing Paige’s wrist, giving Paige the eyes she could never say no to when they were younger. “I have nothing to wear, though,” Paige says, giving Azzi her look, but then Azzi has a bright idea, “You could just sleep in your sports bra and boxer, it’s not like we haven’t done it before,” Azzi says with a smirk. Finally, Paige caves in, “Okay, fine,” Paige says.
Paige and Azzi had been sitting in Azzi’s living room for a while. After maybe 30 minutes, Azzi had fallen asleep right on Paige’s lap. When she did, Paige let out a little smirk. That’s how they fell asleep when they were younger and dating, Azzi lying on Paige’s lap, and Paige lying on her back.
At some point in the night, Azzi curled up on Paige, her head below Paige’s neck and her leg over Paige’s torso.
When Azzi woke up, she had the worst hangover of her life, worse than the ones in college. When she started to blink awake, she realized she was not alone, but she could not remember who. When she opened her eyes, she was Paige. The girl she met on Team USA, the girl she rode a plane back to Minnesota with, the girl she fell in love with in high school, and the girl who ghosted her, leaving for the Air Force.
She had her head on the girl that she dated in high school. When Azzi looked up to see if Paige was up, she saw the blue-eyed girl. “Good morning, did you sleep well?” Paige asked, starting to laugh. Azzi pushed herself up so fast, but as she did, her head began to throb. “HaHa very funny, but yes I did, I think this is the best I have slept in a while,” Azzi said, being dead serious. When she slept with Paige, she always slept the best.
They had been back to dating for a couple of months. They had gone on a couple of dates, spent the night at each other's apartments, and Paige had gone to some of Azzi’s games.
Tonight was one of their annual date nights. Paige was in a calm button-down, a pair of low-rise pants, and some loafers. Azzi was in her classic mini jean shirt and a sweater, with her Birkenstock clogs.
Paige was the one driving. It was maybe a 20-minute drive. It was the place they always went to, Soy cowboy, Paige gets the Korean BBQ ribs, and Azzi gets the California roll.
They order their food, and Paige gets her shirely temple, and Azzi gets a watermelon martini. Their food arrives, and they eat so fast without even realizing it.
Azzi and Paige reach for the check at the same time. “P you always pay, let me pay this time,” Azzi says, grabbing the check and placing her black Amex card. Paige shakes her head with a light laugh, “This will be a one-time thing, I hate when you pay,” Paige says, placing her hand on top of Azzi.
They both leave satisfied and full. Paige opens the door, helping Azzi into the car, closing it softly behind her. Rounding the hood and getting in the driver's seat, starting the car. They drive home with a low hum of music playing, Paige’s hand tracing slow, small circles on Azzi’s thigh.
When they got home, it was just about pitch black. Getting inside the home, Paige helps Azzi slide off her shoes, holding onto Azzi’s cafa a little longer than necessary.
They start to get unready, Azzi stripping to get in the shower. Paige took the little bit of makeup she had on.
When Azzi was in the shower, Paige decided she wanted to be a little bit of a menace. Going into the bathroom and starting to strip off her clothes, Azzi heard the door open, but she chose to ignore it.
Paige slips in behind Azzi in the shower, wrapping her arms around the tan skin. Placing little gentle kisses on Azzi’s shoulder. Azzi turns around, “Well, hello, I thought you didn’t have to shower?” Azzi asks Paige for a kiss, “I just started to miss you.” Paige spoke in a low tone. Azzi smiles and turns back around, grabbing the body wash, handing it to Paige, giving her something to do while Azzi washes her hair. Paige took it for her hands, and she started to wash Azzi’s back.
When they were both done, Paige stepped out first, wrapping the towel around her body, then helping Azzi out. Sitting her on the toilet at she began to rub cocoa butter on Azzi’s legs.
They were both dressed and clean. Paige was on her side of the bed, and Azzi was also on Paige’s side, curled up on her side. Legs over Paige’s. Watch as Paige scrolled through Instagram.
Paige could tell Azzi was starting to drift off. She placed a kiss on the girl's head, “I love you, go to bed,” Paige said, turning the lamp off on the nightstand and placing her phone on the nightstand, and falling asleep next to the love of her life.
