Red Friday Info
So I've been getting a number of people IRL asking me how I could possibly consider cancelling Christmas in my household. They always do the holidays up big and just can't-- LISTEN. The blackout/redout is specifically targeted towards big corporations. Amazon. Target. Sephora (especially you). Gamestop. All the big companies. Of course you're allowed to buy food under the boycott--and I'm getting sick of the bs where people try to twist everything.
People seem to be aghast, AGHAST, at the idea that they might have to explain what's going on to their kids or their infant-like husbands who are expecting a huge pile of gifts under the tree every year. The Spirit and Intention of it All If protests and governmental participation aren't going to work, then it's time to go for the pocketbook. And this is something 'safe' that everyone who buys anything can do. We're closing the wallets. The point is to squeeze these corporations dry and stop unnecessary spending. We are not going to buy things we don't need this year. Food If you want to do a big food situation, keep in mind that Costco and Aldi are far less evil than many companies. Give them your dollars instead. Or, you could go to a local butcher or small grocery. There are ways to go about it. Gifts Same damn thing. Shop small. Coincidentally, all these people asking me dumbass questions are all in tabletop games. Would it not be a total treat to commission an artist or two to make art of everyone's characters? I've made my arrangements. Everyone knows what I'm doing this year. I am doing a big destash on craft supplies, crafting tools, books, and clothing. So my friends know I'm keeping a list of titles they can get from my stash. And these books are expensive these days. Lots of people are getting handmade project bags and drawings. Also the cookie variety boxes. Always with those.
Exceptions I do plan on doing tag gifts for our local foster kids. Why? Because the blackout is about stuff we don't need / stopping overconsumption. These kids have no one else to fall back on and they need some of these basics. Kids over here are asking for bed linens. Break my fucking heart. That's a need, not a want.
